Mikael Samuelsson will be an unrestricted free agent this summer.

He has spent most of his two seasons in Detroit on the sidelines due to injury. Samuelsson played in just 26 games this past season and four during the lockout-shortened campaign.

No one claimed Mikael Samuelsson after the Detroit Red Wings decided to send him to the AHL. He's with Grand Rapids as of Sunday.

No big surprise, as he's been either injured, inconsistent or both this season. He only has three points in 26 GP and doesn't really have any peripheral value beyond that.

Mikael Samuelsson has been waived by the Detroit Red Wings.

He has one goal and two assists in 26 games this campaign. Samuelsson has been a healthy scratch often and he's struggled with injuries in his previous two seasons.

Mikael Samuelsson will likely be a healthy scratch Saturday night against the Kings.

He will make way for the returning Tomas Tatar, who is back from Slovakia where he attended his father's funeral. It has been a long time since Samuelsson has been a factor in fantasy hockey pools.

The Detroit Red Wings' Mikael Samuelsson, who was a healthy scratch on Thursday, admitted that his confidence is down.

He has three points in 21 games this season. "That’s what I need most of all," Samuelsson said, referring to confidence. "You can say, ‘Oh yeah, you have to skate faster, you’ve got to battle harder.’ Yeah, absolutely. I haven’t played my best hockey. But it has its reasons too, but I don’t want to comment on that. I just have to take it one day at a time." Is his confidence down? "Right now? Yeah, it is," he said. "No question about it."

Mikael Samuelsson is projected to be a healthy scratch Thursday night.

He has chipped in one goal and two assists in 21 games this season, while averaging 10:27 of ice time per match. Jordin Tootoo, who was just called up from the minors on Wednesday, will suit up against Calgary in his place.

Mikael Samuelsson was a healthy scratch for the ninth time in 13 games this season.

Samuelsson scored in the opener but has found himself in the press box more often than not this season after playing only four games last season due to a plethora of injuries.

Mikael Samuelsson will suit up Saturday after being scratched for the last four games.

Niklas Kronwall is day-to-day with a concussion, so the Wings want Samuelsson to help on the power play. He has one goal in three outings this campaign.

Mikael Samuelsson is healthy and playing well for the Detroit Red Wings.

Samuelsson had a real tough season in 2012-13 as he managed to play in only four games. He likely would have been bought out in the off-season had he been healthy but the new CBA does not allow teams to buy out injured players so Samuelsson was spared. He scored in the opener and could be a nice and unexpected contributor to the Red Wings this season. We do not recommend him at this time but take a wait-and-see approach for the veteran.

Mikael Samuelsson scored Detroit's first goal of the season in Wednesday's win against Buffalo.

He played on the team's fourth line and logged just 8:27 of ice time, but that didn't stop him from contributing to the Wings' 2-1 victory. Cory Emmerton, who cleared waivers prior to the start of the season, picked up an assist on Samuelsson's marker.

Mikael Samuelsson is battling for a roster spot at Detroit's training camp.

"The pressure is on right away. If you can't handle it, you shouldn't be here," he said. "It's fun, too — you've got to look at it that way. For me, I have to earn a spot." He is competing with Tomas Tatar, Gustav Nyquist, Todd Bertuzzi, Patrick Eaves and Jordin Tootoo for a 2013-14 spot. Samuelsson has a lot to prove after last season's injury-plagued campaign. He probably would've been bought out by the Red Wings this past summer had he been healthy at the time.

Mikael Samuelsson is eager to put his rough 2013 campaign behind him.

Samuelsson had just one assist in four games due to a variety of injuries. "You realize how much fun the game is when you're away from the game," Samuelsson said. "I haven't played (hockey in a while). I needed a good summer. I had a good summer. I'm healthy. It's a good feeling to wake up and feel like I do. When you're feeling good and strong it feels exciting." If he can stay healthy in 2013-14, and there's no guarantee that he will, he should end up with 40-50 points.

Mikael Samuelsson said he feels 100 percent heading into training camp.

He suited up in just four games last season, while missing action with a sore groin, a broken finger and a pectoral injury. Samuelsson has one year left on his contract and it carries a $3 million cap hit.
