The Ottawa Senators have placed David Hale on waivers.

The Senators have an extra defenseman and want to send Hale down. He will have to pass through waivers which end on Friday at noon ET.

David Hale might be sent down to the minors.

The Senators currently have eight defensemen, but they don't want to keep that many on the roster indefinitely. Ottawa might prefer to trade Brian Lee, but so far nothing has been done. We'll keep you posted.

David Hale was scratched on Saturday with the return of Filip Kuba to the Senators' lineup.

Kuba proved to me back at full health and as a result, Hale was the odd man out. The journeyman defenseman shouldn't be owned in fantasy leagues.

David Hale made the trip to Boston with the Senators and will play if Filip Kuba is unable to on Saturday.

Kuba has been out all season with a broken leg suffered on the opening day of training camp. Kuba is hopeful that he will be able to make his seasonal debut but if he is unable to go, then Hale will draw into the lineup.

Hale will skate alongside Erik Karlsson. He's replacing blueliner Brian Lee, who will spend Friday's contest in the press box.

David Hale will likely dress in Ottawa's game against Buffalo on Friday.

He was recalled from the minors on Wednesday and will likely replace Brian Lee in the lineup. "We need solid, defensive play. We need (Hale) to play the way he did in the pre-season," coach Cory Clouston said. "He has some experience. This shouldn't be new to him. If he's a safe, solid defensive defenseman, we'll be happy."

David Hale has been recalled by Ottawa.

The Senators' defense corps has struggled in the early going of the season and GM Bryan Murray feels a slight shake up is in order to help settle it down. Hale skated in 39 games with the Tampa Bay Lightning last season, but he has no fantasy value.

"I was disappointed. It came as a bit of a shock but I knew the situation I was getting into," said Hale. He signed a two-way contract with Ottawa in the summer.

This comes as a bit of a surprise as it looked like Hale was going to start the season with the team. Hale had four points in 39 games with Tampa Bay in 2009-10.
