Jody Shelley's hip injury will require surgery.
The date for the procedure hasn't been determined yet and a timetable for his return is uncertain as well. Shelley has played in just one game this season, but he sits often as a healthy scratch. He shouldn't be on your fantasy radar even if you are desperate for penalty minutes. Feb 14 - 10:55 AM

The Flyers placed Jody Shelley on injured reserve Tuesday due to a hip injury.

Shelley hasn't played since Jan. 24 and the Flyers needed to make a corresponding move after calling up Harry Zolnierczyk earlier Tuesday. Shelley has no fantasy value, so this is more of an FYI.

Jody Shelley and Tom Sestito are slated to make their season debuts in Philadelphia's lineup on Thursday night.

The shorthanded Flyers won't have Scott Hartnell (foot), Brayden Schenn (suspension), Daniel Briere (wrist) ane Zac Rinaldo (thigh) available for Thursday's contest. Shelley and Sestito should bring some grit and fire to the table against Philly's rival, the New York Rangers, especially with the team desperate for a win.

Jody Shelley isn't sure if the lockout will mark the end of his NHL career.

Shelley will turn 37 in February and was limited to 30 games last season. If the 2012-13 season is lost, Shelley might have trouble finding work as an unrestricted free agent. "It crosses your mind," said Shelley. "But it's not like you dwell on it. I feel great and want to continue. I feel I have more to offer."

Jody Shelley has been suspended for five preseason games and five regular season contests for labeling Toronto's Darryl Boyce from behind on Wednesday night.

"The video clearly shows that Boyce has his back to Shelley well before the contact," said NHL disciplinarian Brendan Shanahan in a video explanation. "Boyce does not put himself in this position immediately prior to, or simultaneously, with the check. Shelley has time to avoid the check completely or at the very least minimize the contact. This is a clear violation of the boarding rule." He will be eligible to return on Oct. 20 when the Flyers host the Washington Capitals.
