Joe Corvo was not on the ice during the Hurricanes Saturday morning skate.

He has been nursing an undisclosed injury and perhaps is not recovered enough to play. The Canes only had five defenseman during the morning scrimmage so if Corvo can't go they will have to call someone up on an emergency basis.
Apr 27 - 12:00 PM

Joe Corvo (undisclosed) didn't play Thursday, but Hurricanes general manager Jim Rutherford thinks he could play in Saturday's finale.

All Rutherford said regarding the specifics of the injury was that it was "nagging." Corvo has 17 points in 39 games this year.
Apr 26 - 11:40 AM

Joe Corvo recorded his 11th assist of the season on Sunday.

After a disappointing campaign with the Boston Bruins, Corvo's third stint with Carolina has gone well. He has 17 points in 38 games, including eight points with the man advantage. Corvo will be an unrestricted free agent this summer and his fantasy value for the 2013-14 campaign will be dependent on where he ends up and, more specifically, how much power-play ice time he gets with his new team.
Apr 22 - 10:00 AM

Joe Corvo scored a power-play goal Tuesday night to give Carolina a 1-0 lead early in the first period, but the Hurricanes ended up losing 5-3 to Pittsburgh.

Fellow Canes defenseman Bobby Sanguinetti also scored in the contest and so did forward Riley Nash. Jordan and Eric Staal chipped in with an assist each in the defeat.
Apr 9 - 9:45 PM

Joe Corvo (lower body) has been activated from injured reserve.

Corvo has been out of commission since March 16th, but it looks like he'll return Tuesday night against Winnipeg.
Mar 25 - 6:44 PM

Joe Corvo (lower body) practiced Monday.

He may be able to return to the lineup on Tuesday after missing the past three games with a lower-body injury.
Mar 25 - 3:13 PM

Joe Corvo (lower body) has been moved to Carolina's injured reserve list.

He's retroactive to March 16th and could be back playing in a week or so.
Mar 21 - 5:18 PM

Joe Corvo has a lower-body injury and will be sidelined for another week.

Corvo has been out since leaving Saturday's game with an undisclosed injury that was later reclassified as of the lower-body variety. Corvo has been very streaky this season but is a solid option in deeper leagues. On the season, Corvo has four goals, 11 points and a plus-8 rating.
Mar 19 - 5:10 PM

Joe Corvo has been on a tear since he sat the first three games of Carolina's six-game road trip as a healthy scratch.

In four games since, he has two goals and three assists. "I had to eliminate all the hesitation out of my game," Corvo said. "I think that was holding me back -- a lot of negative thoughts. It gave me time to think where I was at, which way I could go with my career. I could keep going on that path and probably be retired by next year or fight against it and show people 35 isn't old and that I can still play."
Feb 15 - 9:20 AM

Joe Corvo scored a goal and added an assist for the Hurricanes in a 3-1 win over Toronto Thursday.

Corvo has made quite the turnaround after finding himself a healthy scratch just last week, with five points in four games since the benching. Jordan Staal and Jussi Jokinen also scored goals in the win while Jeff Skinner registered a pair of assists.
Feb 14 - 9:48 PM

Joe Corvo notched a goal and an assist in his return from the press box Saturday afternoon against Philadelphia.

He sat as a healthy scratch for the team's previous three games prior to Saturday's 4-3 overtime loss to the Flyers. Corvo now has three points in six appearances in his latest go-around with the Hurricanes. Jiri Tlusty and Jeff Skinner also scored for Carolina in the match.
Feb 9 - 4:05 PM

Joe Corvo will watch Thursday's game from the press box as a healthy scratch.

In the team's opening two games of the season, Corvo has no points, six shots and a minus-2 rating with four penalty minutes. Jamie McBain, who was scratched for the first two contests, will play in his place.
Jan 24 - 3:29 PM

Joe Corvo is starting to get the feeling that this lockout could result in the cancellation of the 2012-13 season.

"It's definitely starting to feel that way (like 2004-05) the longer it goes," he said Wednesday. "It seems bleak for having any sort of season. Last time they called it around February (2005), so we've got to figure something's got to be done pretty quick. So yeah, it feels like that again. We're going nowhere." Corvo doesn't think the addition of mediators to the process will make that much of a difference, but at the same time it won't hurt to have them involved.

The Hurricanes may have had one of the busiest offseasons, but Raleigh News & Observer columnist Luke DeCock warns that their defense may still be lacking.

The 'Canes certainly improved their offense by acquiring Jordan Staal and signing Alexander Semin and Joe Corvo, yet DeCock worries that there hasn't been enough change on defense, an area where Carolina has struggled since the 2002 and 2006 teams have moved on. Corvo is underrated defensively, though he's more of a replacement for Jaroslav Spacek than the departed Bryan Allen, who provides "bulk and a physical edge that has been missing from Carolina's defense." DeCock thinks the "blue line [is] heavy on finesse and light on heaviness" and therefore it's too early to make any guarantees about this coming season.
