Joe Corvo has been sent down to the minors.
Corvo will play for the AHL Chicago Wolves as opposed to the Senators AHL-affiliate in Binghamton. He used to be a pretty solid offensive defenseman, but at the age of 36, his days of relevance in standard fantasy leagues seems to be over. Wed, Mar 5, 2014 02:55:00 PM

The Ottawa Senators have placed Joe Corvo on waivers.

It wasn't too long ago that Corvo was a solid offensive defenseman, but those days are behind him. The 36-year-old simply isn't used enough to be worth owning in standard leagues and we doubt that will change even if another team does claim him.

Joe Corvo will be back in the Ottawa lineup Saturday against the Bruins.

He sat in the press box Friday night in favor of Eric Gryba, who in turn will be a healthy scratch Saturday evening. Adjust your lineup accordingly.

Joe Corvo logged a season-high 21:13 of ice time against Florida on Tuesday.

He has skated in two games this month and appears to be earning a spot on Ottawa's blueline after he was scratched for a long stretch in November (11 of 12 matches). "It feels good to play my game the way I've played in the past and do what is expected of me," said Corvo, who has two goals and six assists in 12 games. "I think I'm doing that right now. I'm moving my feet, making plays, just trying to make it impossible to take me out of the lineup." He could be worth monitoring if he stays in the lineup.

Joe Corvo helped the Ottawa Senators beat the Florida Panthers 4-2 on Tuesday.

Corvo had a goal and an assist, giving him an intriguing eight points in 12 games. If he can stay on the ice, he could be a valuable depth defenseman. Perhaps he can even fill a blueline void for the Sens.

Joe Corvo suited up for Ottawa on Wednesday night for the just the second time this month and for the first time since Nov. 12.

Heading into the contest, Corvo had been scratched for the past six games and 11 of the past 12. Ottawa has been carrying two extra defensemen this season and he's been the odd man out most nights. Still, it doesn't sound like he's eager to be traded. "I don't know," Corvo said. "It's not something we want to happen, but if there’s eight defencemen, the GM has a job to do, I'm not going to ask him or tell him how to do his job. Whatever he's going to do he's going to do." He has five points in nine games this season.

Joe Corvo was a healthy scratch when Ottawa played his ex-Carolina teammates on Sunday.

He has skated in only eight contests with the Senators this campaign, while serving as a depth defender. Corvo's has played in one games this month and it came back on Nov. 12 versus Philadelphia.

Expect Joel Corvo to once again be a healthy scratch.

It looks as if he will not suit up against the Oilers Saturday afternoon. Coach Paul MacLean did say that could change. But for now, assume Corvo will sit in the press box.

Joe Corvo could be a healthy scratch Saturday against the Sharks.

Based on practice Friday, it looked as if Eric Gryba will get the call over Corvo. We trust this will not have a significant impact on your fantasy team's fortunes.

Joe Corvo won't be in the lineup for Ottawa's opener against Buffalo.

It isn't clear if his absence is the result of an injury or if he's a healthy scratch. Eric Gryba will play instead.

Joe Corvo is a more mature player than the last time he played with the Senators, which was five years ago.

Corvo requested a trade in 2008 because he wasn't happy with his playing time and didn't like the scrutiny involved with playing in Canda. "I’m more comfortable with it now, I faced a lot of scrutiny in Boston (in 2011-12)," Corvo said. "You’ve just got to understand you can’t be on your phone all the time, looking at blogs and reading into anything, which I don’t even do anymore." Now, at 36, he's also realistic about his ice time. "As I’ve gotten older I think I have a better idea of different pieces of a puzzle on a team," Corvo said. "I’m way more open minded as to where a coach feels I fit in on a team."

Joe Corvo feels better equipped to handle the pressure of playing in a Canadian market than he was earlier in his career.

Corvo previously spent parts of two seasons with the Ottawa Senators. "I’m more comfortable with it now, I faced a lot of scrutiny in Boston (in 2011-12)," Corvo said. "You’ve just got to understand you can’t be on your phone all the time, looking at blogs and reading into anything, which I don’t even do anymore." Corvo inked a one-year contract worth $900,000 and isn't expected to serve in a top-four role with Ottawa.

Joe Corvo's newly signed contract with the Ottawa Senators is worth $900,000 for the 2013-14 campaign.

Corvo had 17 points in 40 games with the Hurricanes last season. This is a nice, low-risk signing for the Senators, but at the age of 36, Corvo is on the downswing of his career.
