The Washington Capitals added some goaltending depth by inking Dan Ellis to a one-year, two-way contract on Saturday.
Ellis would likely fight for time at the AHL level, but he's a nice resource if injuries strike. The 35-year-old spent the last two seasons with the Florida Panthers organization. In 2014-15, he played 37 games for the San Antonio Rampage and eight for the Panthers. Jul 4 - 12:54 PM

Dan Ellis is expected to hit the open market as an unrestricted free agent next week.

He spent most of the 2014-15 season in the minors, but got a chance to play with the Panthers when Roberto Luongo and Al Montoya were injured. In eight appearances with Florida, he posted a 4-3-1 record with a .914 save percentage and a 2.35 goals-against average.

The Florida Panthers have assigned Dan Ellis to the AHL.

Al Montoya is healthy and ready to return to the lineup so Ellis is being sent down to make room for him on the roster. Ellis had a 4-3-1 record with a 2.34 goals-against-average and a .914 save percentage in eight games this season.
Apr 9 - 7:20 PM

Goalie Dan Ellis, starting in place of first-string Florida goalie Roberto Luongo, made 24 saves in the Panthers' 4-1 loss to the visiting Montreal Canadiens Sunday.

It was the first game the Panthers played since officially being eliminated from playoff contention Saturday. Thus, the respite for Luongo. Ellis was okay, but just okay, against Montreal. His record on the season is now 4-3-1. His goals-against average is 2.35 and his save percentage is .914.
Apr 5 - 7:53 PM

Look for Dan Ellis to get the start in Sunday's game against the Montreal Canadiens.

It will be interesting to see how the Panthers respond after officially being knocked out of the playoff picture on Saturday. Ellis has a 4-2-1 record with a 2.11 goals-against-average and a .922 save percentage in seven games this season.
Apr 5 - 9:02 AM

Dan Ellis stopped 25 of 27 shots in Sunday's 4-2 win over Ottawa.

This was a huge two points in the standings for the Panthers. Florida now trails Ottawa by just one point but they still trail Boston by four points for the final Wild Card spot in the East. Time is running out for the Panthers but they still have an outside shot of making the post-season. Ellis has a 4-2-1 record with a 2.11 goals-against-average and a .922 save percentage.
Mar 29 - 8:58 PM

Dan Ellis will get the start against the Ottawa Senators on Sunday evening.

Ellis comes in with a 3-2-1 record with just 13 goals on 166 combined shots against through six games with the Panthers this season. The Panthers meanwhile come in trailing the Bruins by four points for the final Wild Card slot, and will need to leapfrog the Senators in order to enter the playoffs.
Mar 29 - 5:09 PM

Dan Ellis allowed three goals on 25 shots Tuesday as the Panthers were upended by Montreal by a score of 3-2.

Ellis has been forced into duty as a result of injuries to both Roberto Luongo and Al Montoya and has come through looking pretty good - tonight's result notwithstanding. His record in limited duty is now 3-2-1 while his GAA is 2.13 and his save percentage is .922.
Mar 17 - 10:36 PM

Dan Ellis will get the start against Montreal on Tuesday night.

Ellis has performed admirably for the Panthers during his five games of work this season. He's 3-1-1 with 10 goals against on 141 shots. He also owns three Quality Starts. Ellis has split his two career starts versus Montreal with five goals against, all at even strength, on 38 total shots.
Mar 17 - 5:19 PM

Dan Ellis made 32 saves in the Panthers' tough 2-1 loss to the Rangers on Sunday evening.

The worst part is that the Panthers failed to pick up ground on both the Bruins and Capitals as they faced off against each other. Ellis had another stellar game for the Panthers, making several clutch saves and stymieing the Rangers' attack. The two goals were simply cases of bad luck on tips. Ellis falls to 3-1-1 with 10 goals on 141 shots against in five starts for the Panthers.
Mar 15 - 8:43 PM

Dan Ellis will get the start in Sunday's game against the New York Rangers.

Ellis is coming off a 2-0 shutout win over the Carolina Hurricanes on Saturday night. The 34-year-old has been forced into duty because of injuries to Roberto Luongo and Al Montoya. Ellis has a 3-0-1 record with a 1.92 goals-against-average and a .925 save percentage.
Mar 15 - 3:53 PM

Dan Ellis earned a shutout on 27 saves in the Panthers’ 2-0 win over the Hurricanes on Saturday night.

Ellis has a 3-0-1 record since he became the number-one netminder with the injuries to the Panthers’ top two. The shutout is his first since Feb. 1, 2014. He has a 1.92 goals-against average and .925 save percentage. There’s a chance Roberto Luongo could return Sunday at the Rangers.
Mar 14 - 10:31 PM

Dan Ellis will indeed get the start against the Hurricanes Saturday.

We are just confirming an earlier post as it is clear that Roberto Luongo will not be recovered from a shoulder injury in time to play in this contest. Ellis has played well while subbing in for Luongo (2-0-1 record) and will likely want to put on a good show against one of his former teams.
Mar 14 - 9:22 AM

Dan Ellis will get the start versus the Carolina Hurricanes on Saturday night.

Ellis has done well in his three starts thus far with the Panthers. He's won twice while allowing eight goals against on 80 shots. With Roberto Luongo's return imminent, Ellis' fantasy value is quickly drying up.
Mar 13 - 11:18 PM

Dan Ellis turned aside 18 shots in a 4-2 win over Winnipeg on Thursday.

He has posted a 2-0-1 record as the team's starter because of injuries to Roberto Luongo and Al Montoya. Unfortunately, his .900 save percentage and 2.53 goals-against average don't make him a very attractive fantasy option. Luongo could be back soon anyway.
