Look for Dan Ellis to get one of the starts next week when the Panthers play Columbus and Detroit in back-to-back contests.

The Cats go on a two-game road trip Monday and Tuesday and Ellis will likely be in goal for one of those games. If Roberto Luongo is ready to return to action Thursday night against the Blue Jackets as hoped, Ellis will be returned to the AHL. So it's a one and done situation for the veteran netminder.

Dan Ellis was placed on waivers by the Panthers on Sunday.

He appeared in six games with Florida last season after he was acquired at the trade deadline from Dallas. Sep 29 - 9:51 AM

Even though the Florida Panthers brought in Al Montoya during the off-season, Dan Ellis isn't willing to concede the team's backup goalie job.

"I don't feel like I'm going to leave," Ellis said Wednesday. "I've played long enough and have seen a little bit of everything. I was prepared they were going to bring in another guy. I knew they needed at least three goalies. Wherever they want to slot things in the summertime isn't my concern." Montoya probably has the inside track at the role, but Ellis does have a chance to serve as Roberto Luongo's understudy if he can earn the role at training camp.

Mar 28 - 1:36 PM

Dan Ellis wasn't able to withstand the Anaheim onslaught Sunday, as he and the Panthers were on the wrong end of a 6-2 decision.

Ellis allowed six goals on 40 shots in the defeat and was consistently hung out to dry by his subpar supporting cast. In two starts since being acquired by Florida, he has allowed 11 goals, possesses a 5.54 GAA and an .838 save percentage. It's not likely that he's owned in your fantasy league and given the situation he finds himself in, that should not change.
