Rob Scuderi feels that the Pittsburgh Penguins have been lacking passion lately.
The Penguins are 6-6-2 since the Olympic break, but the team hasn't been in any danger of losing their spot as the Metropolitan Division leaders. That might be the reason for their motivational problems, but they need to find a way to stay motivated otherwise they might end up getting upset by a hot Wild Card team that competed hard until the bitter end of the season. Rob Scuderi saw 18:01 of ice time in his return to the lineup on Sunday from a fractured ankle.

He finished the match with a minus-2 rating and he was credited with two blocked shots. "I felt OK. Conditioning, it wasn't a problem," said Scuderi, who was making his first appearance since Oct. 26. "Skating, it wasn't a problem. The only thing that's very awkward for me was just trying to get your bearings, where you're supposed to be, positioning, where the puck is. I struggled with that." He should get his timing back soon after he shakes off some rust.

Rob Scuderi had a bone scan on his fractured ankle on Wednesday.

If the results are favorable then he's expected to resume taking full contact in practices. "I feel very good," Scuderi said. "I felt very good a couple of weeks ago. I was disappointed that the medical tests didn't turn out the way I felt. But there's nothing you can do. It's disappointing, but you roll with it. We're here again, and I'm hoping that the extra time will have paid off." He hasn't played since Oct. 26, but could be inching closer.

Rob Scuderi (broken ankle) is skating on his own and could rejoin practice this week.

Scuderi suffered the injury on October 26 and has been out ever since. He was slated to miss six-eight weeks so he is right on schedule. Scuderi is a solid defensive defenseman who has little fantasy value but he has plenty of value in real hockey. Consider him day-to-day.

Robert Scuderi (ankle) is making slow, but steady progress.

"Rob was three weeks post surgery yesterday," Penguins coach Dan Bylsma said on Thursday. "He's rehabbing at a moderate rate right now. Hopefully in the next seven days or so, he'll move on to a little more rehab as he progresses." Scuderi was originally projected to miss six-to-eight weeks, which means he can't be expected to return until mid-December at the earliest.

Penguins general manager Ray Shero admitted it was a "mistake" to let Rob Scuderi walk after the 2009 Cup run.

Scuderi signed a four-year deal on Friday, and he remains a great stay-at-home blueliner, one who could get a chance to play with Kris Letang. "I'll ask the next question: ‘Ray, was it a mistake to let Rob Scuderi go?' " Shero said. "Yes, it was a mistake to let Rob Scuderi go on my part. To have a chance at a do-over and bring Rob back was something I wanted to try and do."
