Mikko Koivu said his team isn't playing well enough to win right now.
The Wild lost a 6-5 overtime game to Nashville on Saturday and Koivu wasn't pleased with his team's effort. "We can talk and say all the right things,’’ said Koivu. ""But at the end, it’s got to be happening on the ice. We’ve got some good parts of the game, but we can’t keep it for 60 minutes, and we’ve got to find an answer for that. We’re chasing these guys, and we need points. That can’t happen. With five goals, we should be able to win a hockey game, and we’re not doing that right now. The bottom line is, we’ve got to be better.’’ Dec 21 - 11:39 AM

Dec 8 - 6:00 PM

Mikko Koivu missed Saturday morning's practice due to a minor strain.

No word on where on the body this strain is but Wild coach Mike Yeo seemed confident Koivu would be able to practise on Monday. The Wild don't play again until Tuesday against the Islanders so Koivu may not miss any games.
Dec 6 - 1:52 PM

Mikko Koivu joined Minnesota's top power-play unit at Thursday's practice.

He took part in drills with Zach Parise, Mikael Granlund, Jason Pominville and Jonas Brodin. If Ryan Suter returns on Friday from the mumps then he will take Brodin's place The Wild want to take advantage of Koivu's faceoff prowess. Minnesota's 29th-ranked power play has five goals during the team's recent 7-2-1 run.
Dec 4 - 5:31 PM

Mikko Koivu scored his first goal in the month of November in Saturday's game against the Blues.

Koivu has had a tough season offensively in 2014-15. His last game came on October 30th against the San Jose Sharks. The 31-year-old has just three goals and nine points in 23 games this season. Those are disappointing totals considering he averages over 19 minutes of ice time per game.
Nov 30 - 9:51 AM

Mikko Koivu netted a goal for the Wild in their 3-2 shootout loss to the Blues on Saturday night.

Koivu scored on a wrist shot in the second period. The center has had a disappointing season, with just four goals and 10 points in 24 games. Zach Parise also potted a goal in the win.
Nov 29 - 11:20 PM

Mikko Koivu contributed two assists in a 4-1 win against Florida on Monday.

He had the only helper on a pair of goals from Jason Zucker in the match. The two of them appear to be building some chemistry and Koivu praised the 22-year-old's game. "His work ethic right now is another step of wherever he's been," said Koivu. "I think he's playing his best hockey — not just the points and goals, but overall. If he keeps doing that, he's going to be a great player."
Nov 25 - 10:33 AM

Mikko Koivu is expected to play Saturday night against the Lightning.

He seems to be over an illness that kept him out of Friday's practice. Make sure you have Koivu, who likely skate alongside Nino Niederreiter and Justin Fontaine, active for Saturday night's contest.
Nov 22 - 2:08 PM

Mikko Koivu is dealing with an illness.

Koivu missed Friday's practice as a result, but he's still a possibility for Saturday's contest. He has gotten off to a slow start this season with two goals and five points in 18 games.
Nov 21 - 2:05 PM

Mikko Koivu had an eventual game on Thursday in a 4-3 shootout win over San Jose.

He tallied a goal and posted nine shots before scoring again in the shootout. Koivu was also a force in the faceoff circle, winning 22 of the 28 draws he took. He skated between Charlie Coyle and Jason Zucker in the contest.
Oct 31 - 11:50 AM

Mikko Koivu got on the board Saturday with his first point of the season.

He scored a goal in Minnesota's 7-2 rout of the Lightning. The addition of Charlie Coyle to a line with Koivu and Thomas Vanek has given the combination a spark offensively. Vanek had two assists on Saturday, while Coyle had one.

Mikko Koivu hasn't registered a point through four games this season.

Koivu feels like he's generating plenty of scoring chances with new linemate Thomas Vanek, but the puck isn't going in for them. "I think we're doing a lot of things the right way, but in the end, it's no excuse to say you're playing good when you can't capitalize on your chances," he said. Koivu has 11 shots and he's won 58.7 percent of his faceoffs, so he has contributed in other categories. The points should come eventually.
Oct 20 - 11:53 AM

If the first day of Minnesota's training camp was any indication, Mikko Koivu may end up centering the Wild's second line.

Coach Mike Yeo is obviously toying with the idea of splitting up Koivu and Zach Parise. Koivu skated between Thomas Vanek and Charlie Coyle, while Parise skated alongside Mikael Granlund and Jason Pomminville. Although it is early in camp and much can change, both Vanek and Parise thought their respective lines gelled well. Keep an eye on this situation going forward. The obvious winner, if these lines should stay intact, is Coyle.
