Mike Komisarek will remain in the fold Monday night for the Hurricanes.

He's going to line up as forward against Boston. Komisarek got back into Carolina's lineup last week when he played on Friday and Saturday after being a healthy scratch since Oct. 25.

Hurricanes coach Kirk Muller liked what he saw from Mike Komisarek on Saturday.

Komisarek had spent his previous three games in the press box. "I was really pleased with him," Muller said. "He looked very comfortable. That's where the experience kicks in." Even if Komisarek starts playing more regularly, the defensive defenseman won't have much fantasy value in standard leagues.

Mike Komisarek will be a healthy scratch on Thursday against the Toronto Maple Leafs.

Komisarek was bought out by the Maple Leafs over the summer and signed by the Carolina Hurricanes. Unfortunately, the change in scenery hasn't translated into increased responsibilities for the defensive defenseman.

Mike Komisarek might be put into the lineup for Thursday's game in Toronto.

It will be Komisarek's first chance to play against the team that bought him out over the summer. "We'll see," he said. "I think as the summer goes by and you start the season, you don't reflect. You digest what's gone on in the past and you move on and look forward." He's out from under the expectations of his big contract, but at the same time he hasn't done much this season. The Hurricanes have only used him in one game and he was limited to 14:14 minutes.

Mike Komisarek is still waiting to make his Carolina debut.

He's slated to be a healthy scratch for a third straight time on Tuesday night. "No changes," coach Kirk Muller said. "The way the team played the other night, I don't see any reason to change it up." Komisarek will have to wait for his opportunity to get into the lineup.

Carolina coach Kirk Muller is looking forward to strong contributions from defenseman Mike Komisarek in the NHL's regular season, which opens next week.

"I was really pleased with Mike (in the preseason)," Muller said. "He only played maybe 10 games, tops, last year (with the Toronto Maple Leafs). He missed a lot and we’ve got to build his confidence back up." Komisarek played almost 19 minutes and blocked three shots and looked strong in the Canes' 1-0 shutout of the Buffalo Sabres Friday night in their final preseason game.

The Carolina Hurricanes will pay Mike Komisarek $700,000 next season to see if he still what it takes to be a serviceable NHL blueliner.

If he can play the way he did during his final few seasons in Montreal then the Hurricanes' low-risk gamble to bring him on board has the potential to be a great off-season bargain. If it works out this season then he's open to signing a longer term contract with Carolina. "It was really the only team I thought was a perfect fit before the whole free-agency process started," Komisarek said. "At the end of the day, I didn't want to hold out for the best contract. I wanted to go somewhere where I could regain my confidence and get back to my old self."

Mike Komisarek is eager to prove his doubters wrong this season, with his new squad in Carolina.

"It's amazing when people write you off, put you in a box and put a label on you," said Komisarek. "It's exciting to try to prove people wrong. I've had a great summer, new one born in May. Puts a different perspective on things. I've got that same sort of feeling I had when I was a rookie. It's definitely a breath of fresh air, go down there and just play. Don't worry about anything. No expectations. I feel like I'm going to my first training camp. A great fresh start for myself. A new beginning." He signed a one-year deal with the Hurricanes in July after he was bought out by the Maple Leafs. Komisarek appears to be motivated by the fresh start he is getting, but he probably won't have much fantasy this season unless your league credits penalty minutes, hits and blocks.

Mike Komisarek is ready for a "fresh start" with the Hurricanes.

Komisarek has been a shell of his former self (and injury-prone) since signing a five-year, $22.5 million deal with Toronto in 2009. He played just four games in the NHL this year after being placed on waivers. "You sign a big contract, you come in there as a hot free agent and you want to change the world," Komisarek said. "You can’t do that in a day, a week, a month. It’s a process. I didn’t get off on the right foot and never recovered from there. It just wasn’t working out. ... Right now I’m excited for the opportunity to prove a lot of people wrong and having that fresh start." On a one-year, $700,000 deal, Komisarek is a good gamble for the bottom pair.
