With Alex Edler out of the Canucks' lineup due to a knee injury, Dan Hamhuis saw a boost in responsibility.

Hamhuis picked up an assist in the overtime victory, but it was his appearance in 69.3 percent of the Canucks' power-play opportunities that was the eye catching stat. He also garnered the most ice-time among all Vancouver blue-liners as he clocked out while registering a whopping 29:36. If Edler is sidelined for an extended period of time, look for Hamhuis to be his primary replacement.

Dan Hamhuis was the lone scorer for the Canucks in their lopsided 5-1 loss to the Kings on Saturday night.

Hamhuis doesn't have tremendous offensive upside and has never scored at a very high clip, but he's a decent all-around contributor. The goal was his third in four games, to go along with two penalty minutes, two hits, two blocked shots and a minus-one rating. Kevin Bieksa and Ryan Kesler had the helpers. As HNIC's Elliotte Friedman noted, with the game out of hand and a tilt in Anaheim on Sunday, the Sedins played just two shifts in the third period.

Dan Hamhuis missed Wednesday's practice because of an upper-body injury.

Hamhuis sustained the ailment while blocking a shot on Tuesday. He's still probable for Thursday's contest, but we'll err on the side of caution by listing him as day-to-day.

Dan Hamhuis could end up patrolling Canada's blueline at the Winter Olympics.

"I've always enjoyed the international game," Hamhuis said. "I love the big ice. I love the room. It's a puck-possession game on that big ice and it's a challenge to defend but I enjoy that. I've been working a lot on my skating. I've been trying every year to become a better skater. With all that room, you have to have guys who can skate. Hopefully, I can fill that role." Duncan Keith is probably the only lock to play for Canada who shoots left handed, so Hamhuis could squeeze into the picture there. Other left-handed Canadian hopefuls include Jay Bouwmeester, Marc Staal, Marc-Edouard Vlasic, Marc Methot, Dion Phaneuf and Karl Alzner.

Dan Hamhuis was on the ice Monday and seems to have recovered from his groin injury.

Hamhuis will partner with Kevin Bieksa on the Canucks blueline and we suggest drafting the Canuck blueliner as he seems to have returned to health. He has had back-to-back plus-29 seasons and his 37 points last season certainly gives him a lot of fantasy value.

Dan Hamhuis sat out the first day of practice with a groin injury.

Hamhuis is likely day-to-day but you never know with groin injuries. It is one injury that comes up a lot during shortened and compressed seasons but of course the season has yet to start. Be a bit wary of Hamhuis and we suggest not drafting him high at this time despite his 37 points last season and back to back plus-29 ratings.

Although he is concerned about the NHL lockout that seems to be getting messier and messier, Vancouver defenseman Dan Hamhuis was focusing mostly on something positive Monday -- the induction of former Canucks star Pavel Bure into the Hockey Hall of Fame.

"He was the guy I grew up watching and he was so exciting because every time he touched the puck something could happen right from his first game he played," recalled Hamhuis. "It’s good to see his recognition with the Hockey Hall of Fame, and it’s well deserved." What about raising No. 10 to the Rogers Centre rafters? Because Bure wasn’t warm and fuzzy — his contract controversies and eventual trade created a circus-like atmosphere — some simply don’t want his number associated with the retired digits of Stan Smyl, Trevor Linden and Markus Naslund. Hamhuis has no doubt whether Bure’s number should be raised. "I think it should," he said. "He’s well deserving of it. . ."
