Coach Lindy Ruff wants to get Ales Hemsky going offensively, so he's considering putting him on the top power-play unit.
"I'd like to get Hemsky involved a little bit with the first power play unit," Ruff said. "He's really skated well and worked hard. It's my responsibility to give him some help to get going. He's put the work in and he should get rewarded." Hemsky has been bumped down to Dallas' fourth line and he has one assist in nine games. He still could get a spot on a scoring line if/when the Stars choose to separate Tyler Seguin and Jason Spezza. Oct 29 - 5:38 PM

Date:

Ales Hemsky has registered only one assist this season to date.

For those ready to drop the veteran winger we suggest you show a little patience. It is not as if Hemsky is not playing well. For example, Friday night he took a game-high eight shots on goal and was the contest's third star despite not hitting the scoresheet. It is only a matter of time before Hemsky breaks out. Don't drop him yet.
Oct 25 - 1:39 PM

Ales Hemsky is projected to see time on Dallas' top power-play unit this season.

Coach Lindy Ruff has put together a combination of Hemsky, Tyler Seguin, Jamie Benn and Jason Spezza for the first line. The Dallas bench boss has tinkered with defensemen Alex Goligoski and Trevor Daley on the unit, but he has kept those four forwards and he likes what he's seen.
Oct 7 - 10:36 AM

Stars coach Lindy Ruff is excited about what Ales Hemsky brings to the table.

"His passing," Ruff said. "I think his compete level is good. I think it is his individual skills. You saw yesterday that he had nothing coming on a play from the outside, and on a curl and drag got inside. He turned what should have been a non-scoring chance into a Grade A scoring chance on his own. I think he’s been criticized sometimes for not shooting enough when he is in those situations. He’s a heady player. He can make plays under pressure and I think those are the things that you’ve got to be able to do at this level." Hemsky has been a frustrating player in recent seasons, but if healthy and properly motivated — and in a plum situation in the Stars’ top-six — Hemsky could thrive. Don’t forget about him later in drafts. He could easily score 20 and have 30 assists.

Sep 20 - 9:26 PM

Although the Stars would like Ales Hemsky to skate alongside Jamie Benn and Tyler Seguin on the team's top line, Hemsky apparently still has great chemistry with Jason Spezza.

That was evident during Friday's scrimmages. The decision as to how to deploy Hemsky and Valeri Nichushkin has still not been made. Both will likely be right wingers on the top two lines. Stay tuned to see how this plays out.
Sep 20 - 1:23 PM

The Stars would like to start Ales Hemsky with Jamie Benn and Tyler Seguin.

Most of the speculation after his signing was that he would be reunited with Jason Spezza after the two of them were successful during their brief time in Ottawa together. However, Dallas wants to try him out on the top line first. Either way, Hemsky will benefit in the end. Playing with Seguin or Spezza makes him worthy of a spot on your roster for the upcoming season.
Aug 14 - 1:17 PM

The Dallas Stars have signed right winger Ales Hemsky to a three-year/$12 million contract.

The Stars have really improved their team up front as they traded for Jason Spezza and now add Ales Hemsky from the Senators. The 30-year-old winger, if he can stay healthy, could hit the 60-65 point mark as the Stars are loading up at forward.
Jul 1 - 1:10 PM

Ales Hemsky appears as though he's ready to become an unrestricted free agent on July 1.

TSN's Bob McKenzie reports that the Senators offered him a three-year deal for about $10 million and it was turned down by the winger. McKenzie adds that Ottawa is willing to trade Hemsky's negotiation rights for a pick.
Jun 16 - 10:18 AM

Ales Hemsky is expected to test the free agent market.

Hemsky is reportedly seeking more than $5.5 million per season, which is more than the Senators were interested in paying for him. It also might be more than he'd get on the open market, given that he hasn't reached the 50-point mark since 2008-09. Even if he can't get that much though, Hemsky is reportedly interested in leaving anyways as it's believed he would rather play in an American market where he wouldn't get as much attention.

Ottawa Senators captain Jason Spezza says "there’s a lot of reflecting" to be done about his future with the team, but Ales Hemsky was pretty clear.

If the Sens trade Spezza, which is widely speculated, Hemsky will take off as an unrestricted free agent. "I want to play with a good center," Hemsky said. "That’s the most important for me. Jason been great to me. I had a blast to play with him. I would like to know what they want to do." The Spezza and his Czech Mates Line – Hemsky and Milan Michalek — had fantastic offensive numbers while playing together after Hemsky was acquired from the Edmonton Oilers before the March trade deadline. Spezza scored seven goals and 12 assists in 18 games after the deal. Hemsky had four goals and 13 assists in 20 games. Michalek netted seven goals and five assists in 20 games. But even with those point totals, the Sens still missed the playoffs, and the organization has some major decisions to make concerning its star players.
Apr 15 - 11:19 AM

Ales Hemsky has played well for the Senators since he was acquired at the trade deadline from Edmonton, but it's unclear if he'll be back with the team next year.

He can test the market as an unrestricted free agent in the summer. Hemsky notched a goal and two assists in Tuesday's 4-1 win over the Islanders to give him 16 points in 17 games with Ottawa.
Apr 10 - 10:48 AM

Ales Hemsky had an assist and the shootout winner against Carolina on Monday.

That was enough to give the Senators a 2-1 victory. Hemsky has a three-game assist going now, over which he has collected four helpers. He has 38 points in 68 games this season between Edmonton and Ottawa.
Apr 1 - 8:18 AM

Ales Hemsky picked up two assists in Sunday's 6-3 win against Calgary.

He has four helpers in his last eight outings, which gives him 11 points in 12 games since being acquired by the Senators at the trade deadline.
Mar 31 - 10:58 AM

Ales Hemsky scored a goal for Ottawa in Thursday's 5-4 loss to the Lightning.

Hemsky is one of the few players still producing at a reasonable clip now that the Senators fortunes for the season have gone south. He has registered eight points in seven games since being traded to Ottawa. Clarke MacArthur, Erik Karlsson and Milan Michalek all found the back of the net in the loss.
Mar 20 - 11:47 PM

Ales Hemsky produced three assists for a second straight game in Monday's 4-3 overtime loss to Nashville.

He picked up three helpers in a 5-3 win over Winnipeg on Saturday to give him six points in three games since he was traded to the Senators. Hemsky is starting to click with Ottawa captain Jason Spezza and the two of them could be a solid tandem down the stretch.
