Ales Hemsky took part in Friday's optional skate and he is expected to play against Detroit on Saturday.

Hemsky has missed Dallas' last three games because of a lower-body injury but all signs point to him retuning. The 31-year-old has been a big disappointment this season. He has just nine goals and 23 points in 52 games this season. If the Stars want to make a push for the playoffs without Tyler Seguin (knee), they will need more from guys like Hemsky.

Ales Hemsky is seeing a doctor today and is having a procedure to aid his lower body injury. As vague as that sounds, the upshot is that he could return early next week.

The Stars are in St. Louis on Tuesday and home to San Jose on Thursday if the prognosis is correct. They're also home to Detroit on Saturday and in Minnesota on Sunday next week should he need a few more days to recover. Hemsky has nine goals and 23 points over 52 games thus far this season.
Feb 14 - 3:10 PM

It appears the lower-body injury to Ales Hemsky is not serious.

He is getting a procedure done Saturday and could return as early as next week. At least that's good news on a day when the Stars learned they will be without their superstar Tyler Seguin for up to a month.
Feb 14 - 1:37 PM

Ales Hemsky suffered a lower-body injury in Friday's 2-0 win over Florida.

The Stars may have won the game but they lost Tyler Seguin, Patrick Eaves and Ales Hemsky to injury. Head coach Lindy Ruff admitted that Hemsky will miss "some time" because of the injury. The Stars will surely make some call-ups in the next few hours, but their playoff hopes will take a huge hit if these three players are out for an extended period of time.
Feb 14 - 12:10 AM

Ales Hemsky scored the overtime winner in Dallas' 3-2 win over the New York Rangers.

Hemsky scored just over one minute into overtime to give the Stars the win and he also assisted on Erik Cole's second period goal. The 31-year-old has had a season to forget in Dallas but he seems to have turned things around of late. Hemsky has five points (two goals, three assists) in his last six games. The Stars were able to salvage a win on the weekend after they dropped Saturday's game to Buffalo.

Ales Hemsky will return to Edmonton for the first time since he was traded away last season.

Hemsky has had a horrendous season for the Stars. He's been a healthy scratch three times this season, and has just two goals and eight points in 28 games this season. Maybe playing his former team will give him the spark he needs to turn his season around, but that isn't likely.
