The Stars would like to start Ales Hemsky with Jamie Benn and Tyler Seguin.
Most of the speculation after his signing was that he would be reunited with Jason Spezza after the two of them were successful during their brief time in Ottawa together. However, Dallas wants to try him out on the top line first. Either way, Hemsky will benefit in the end. Playing with Seguin or Spezza makes him worthy of a spot on your roster for the upcoming season. Aug 14 - 1:17 PM

The Dallas Stars have signed right winger Ales Hemsky to a three-year/$12 million contract.

The Stars have really improved their team up front as they traded for Jason Spezza and now add Ales Hemsky from the Senators. The 30-year-old winger, if he can stay healthy, could hit the 60-65 point mark as the Stars are loading up at forward.
Jul 1 - 1:10 PM

Ales Hemsky appears as though he's ready to become an unrestricted free agent on July 1.

TSN's Bob McKenzie reports that the Senators offered him a three-year deal for about $10 million and it was turned down by the winger. McKenzie adds that Ottawa is willing to trade Hemsky's negotiation rights for a pick.

Ales Hemsky is expected to test the free agent market.

Hemsky is reportedly seeking more than $5.5 million per season, which is more than the Senators were interested in paying for him. It also might be more than he'd get on the open market, given that he hasn't reached the 50-point mark since 2008-09. Even if he can't get that much though, Hemsky is reportedly interested in leaving anyways as it's believed he would rather play in an American market where he wouldn't get as much attention.

Ottawa Senators captain Jason Spezza says "there’s a lot of reflecting" to be done about his future with the team, but Ales Hemsky was pretty clear.

If the Sens trade Spezza, which is widely speculated, Hemsky will take off as an unrestricted free agent. "I want to play with a good center," Hemsky said. "That’s the most important for me. Jason been great to me. I had a blast to play with him. I would like to know what they want to do." The Spezza and his Czech Mates Line – Hemsky and Milan Michalek — had fantastic offensive numbers while playing together after Hemsky was acquired from the Edmonton Oilers before the March trade deadline. Spezza scored seven goals and 12 assists in 18 games after the deal. Hemsky had four goals and 13 assists in 20 games. Michalek netted seven goals and five assists in 20 games. But even with those point totals, the Sens still missed the playoffs, and the organization has some major decisions to make concerning its star players.
Apr 15 - 11:19 AM

Ales Hemsky has played well for the Senators since he was acquired at the trade deadline from Edmonton, but it's unclear if he'll be back with the team next year.

He can test the market as an unrestricted free agent in the summer. Hemsky notched a goal and two assists in Tuesday's 4-1 win over the Islanders to give him 16 points in 17 games with Ottawa.
Apr 10 - 10:48 AM

Ales Hemsky had an assist and the shootout winner against Carolina on Monday.

That was enough to give the Senators a 2-1 victory. Hemsky has a three-game assist going now, over which he has collected four helpers. He has 38 points in 68 games this season between Edmonton and Ottawa.
Apr 1 - 8:18 AM

Ales Hemsky picked up two assists in Sunday's 6-3 win against Calgary.

He has four helpers in his last eight outings, which gives him 11 points in 12 games since being acquired by the Senators at the trade deadline.
Mar 31 - 10:58 AM

Ales Hemsky scored a goal for Ottawa in Thursday's 5-4 loss to the Lightning.

Hemsky is one of the few players still producing at a reasonable clip now that the Senators fortunes for the season have gone south. He has registered eight points in seven games since being traded to Ottawa. Clarke MacArthur, Erik Karlsson and Milan Michalek all found the back of the net in the loss.
Mar 20 - 11:47 PM

Ales Hemsky produced three assists for a second straight game in Monday's 4-3 overtime loss to Nashville.

He picked up three helpers in a 5-3 win over Winnipeg on Saturday to give him six points in three games since he was traded to the Senators. Hemsky is starting to click with Ottawa captain Jason Spezza and the two of them could be a solid tandem down the stretch.
Mar 11 - 8:58 AM

Ales Hemsky dished out three assists in the Senators' 5-3 win over the Jets on Saturday evening.

When Hemsky is at his best, he is creating offense, lighting the lamp at a good pace but setting up even more. The problem, of course, is he tends to disappear too frequently. He has five points over his last three games, with nine goals and 29 points on the season. Milan Michalek registered a goal and two helpers, Mike Hoffman scored and assisted, while Eric Gryba, Kyle Turris and Jared Cowen potted the other goals. Jason Spezza had four helpers.
Mar 8 - 6:16 PM

Ales Hemsky made his Ottawa debut in Wednesday's loss to Calgary.

He skated alongside Jason Spezza and Milan Michalek. He was credited with two shots during his 15:55 of ice time.
Mar 6 - 11:11 AM

The Ottawa Senators have acquired Ales Hemsky from the Edmonton Oilers in exchange for a third round pick and a fifth rounder.

Edmonton will also reportedly retain half of Hemsky's remaining salary. Hemsky has nine goals and 26 points in 55 games this season. His contract will expire at the end of the campaign and even at the age of 30, his glory days seem to be behind him. We wouldn't count on him being anything more than a secondary scorer with Ottawa, but it's worth keeping an eye on this situation. There's always a chance he'll end up on a line with Jason Spezza.
Mar 5 - 12:20 PM

Ales Hemsky acknowledged that he might have played in his last game with Edmonton.

With the team out of the playoff race, they are believed to be actively shopping Hemsky. He scored twice on Tuesday in what might have been his final game with the Oilers. "It's sad if it comes to an end, but it is what it is. It's business," Hemsky said. "We'll see what happens. I wish it had been a different situation, that we were battling for the playoffs and that they would want to sign me. It's a different situation than that."
Mar 5 - 9:24 AM

Ales Hemsky scored two goals to lead the Oilers to a 3-2 win against the Ottawa Senators on Tuesday at Rexall Place.

One of Hemsky's best performances with the Edmonton Oilers this season may very well have been his last. He is an unrestricted free agent at the end of the season and he is expected to be traded by the Oilers prior to the NHL Trade Deadline at 3 p.m. ET on Wednesday. If Hemsky is traded Wednesday, he finish his career with the Oilers having played 652 regular-season games with the team, scoring 142 goals and 335 assists for 477 points. This season he has nine goals and 17 assists in 55 games. Jordan Eberle also scored for the Oilers, while Taylor Hall added two helpers in the victory.
