Alex Hemsky will likely be dealt in the off-season according to The Edmonton Journal.
The injury-prone forward is quite the scorer when healthy but he has been anything but the last four seasons as he has missed 118 games in that span. "I don't think there's a market for him . . .I shouldn't say there's no market," said former NHL GM Craig Button, who now works for TSN. "But the salary cap is coming down to $64.3 million. He makes $5 million for one more year. Would the Oilers pick up half of that to trade him, 50-50 (with another team)? That would still free up $2.5 million in cap space for the Oilers. I don't know if they can get something tangible in return for Hemsky. Andrew Cogliano got the Oilers a second-round draft (pick). I don’t know if they can get that for Hemsky." Hemsky has struggled the last two seasons with 20 points in 38 games this season and 36 points in 69 games in 2011-12 but was a point-a-game player, or close to it, before that. May 20 - 8:19 AM

Date:

Ales Hemsky (foot) might not return before the end of the season.

Hemsky has nine goals and 20 points in 38 games this season. The Oilers will be looking to shake things up this summer and might trade Hemsky as a result. It would be surprising if there's a lot of demand for him though given that he comes with a $5 million cap hit in 2013-14 and hasn't lived up to that kind of contract over the last two seasons.
Apr 19 - 10:16 AM

While the Edmonton Oilers haven't said anything yet, the Edmonton Sun says it suspects Ales Hemsky has been playing with a broken bone in his foot for a month.

"I had it for a little while," said the 29-year-old winger, who’s been on the limp since March 7. "I blocked a shot in Detroit on the big road trip. It’s been a struggle since then." The Oilers have decided to rest Hemsky for at least a week.
Apr 13 - 11:18 AM

Ales Hemsky missed Thursday's practice due to his foot injury.

Hemsky was able to return from the ailment on Wednesday, but clearly he still hasn't fully recovered. Because he has been able to play through the ailment recently, we'll pencil him in for Saturday's game for now.
Apr 12 - 10:19 AM

Ales Hemsky is projected to be back in the lineup Wednesday after he sat out Monday's contest with a foot injury.

"A couple of days rest seemed to do him well," said coach Ralph Krueger. "It is an injury that we've all spoken about that he's going to have to manage for awhile. It didn't go away but he feels good to go today." Ryan Jones will head to the press box to make room for Hemsky's return.
Apr 10 - 5:13 PM

Ales Hemsky isn't expected to play Monday due to a foot injury.

Hemsky had been playing through the ailment. He has nine goals and 20 points in 37 games this season.
Apr 8 - 6:39 PM

Ales Hemsky is playing through an undisclosed injury.

That's why Hemsky was limited to just 12:06 minutes on Monday. "He has a nagging issue and he’s been courageous managing it, but we can’t talk about (what body part is hurt)," said Oilers coach Ralph Krueger. Keep a close eye on his playing time as his fantasy value could be significantly hampered by this development.
Apr 2 - 10:36 AM

Ales Hemsky netted the game-winning goal on Thursday.

Hemsky ended a 12-game goal scoring slump. He's been the subject of trade rumors, but the Oilers are in a difficult position. On the one hand, their rebuilding efforts aren't completely over so it might make sense to trade Hemsky if there's a strong market for him. At the same time, they still have an outside chance of making the playoffs this season and there's no urgency to trade him because his contract doesn't expire until the summer of 2014.
Mar 29 - 9:06 AM

Ales Hemsky registered two assists in the Oilers’ 3-2 loss to the Predators Monday night.

Hemsky has been remarkably healthy in this 48-game shortened season for a guy with his history. However, he’s only been useful in deeper leagues. With the assists tonight, Hemsky now has 19 points in 30 games in 2013.
Mar 25 - 10:38 PM

Ales Hemsky, who left Tuesday's game early due to illness, is just fine now and will play Friday night against Detroit.

Just in case you were worried he wouldn't be able to answer the bell.
Mar 15 - 10:11 AM

Ales Hemsky didn't play in the final eight minutes of Tuesday's contest.

Hemsky was put in the lineup despite the fact that he was sick, so when the Oilers' victory seemed all-but assured, he was given the rest of the night off. This is just an FYI in case you saw that he only logged 11:26 minutes and were worried.
Mar 13 - 10:36 AM

It looks like Ales Hemsky will be back in the Edmonton Oilers' lineup on Sunday.

He was dealing with a foot injury after a puck hit that spot during Thursday's game, forcing him to sit out Friday's action. He's been useful and remarkably healthy for a guy with his history, only missing one game in 2013.
Mar 10 - 2:03 PM

Ales Hemsky left Thursday's game after his foot was struck by a shot.

The good news is Hemsky's foot isn't believed to be broken. He's still doubtful for Friday's contest, but should otherwise be regarded as day-to-day.
Mar 8 - 10:31 AM

Ales Hemsky contributed to three of the Oilers' goals in their 5-1 win over the Stars on Thursday night.

The winger recorded a goal and two helpers. While Hemsky has 13 points this season, he hadn't put up a point in six games and has been a bit up and down production-wise this season. Justin Schultz and Jeff Petry each had a goal and an assist, while Ben Eager and Sam Gagner registered goals. Jordan Eberle and Lennart Petrell chipped in with two assists apiece.
Mar 1 - 12:28 AM

Ales Hemsky had a goal and an assist against the Dallas Stars on Wednesday, but it wasn't enough as the Edmonton Oilers lost 3-2 in OT.

Hemsky is really starting to generate a nice run. He has a three-game point streak with two goals and two assists in that span. Overall, he has seven points in 10 games and represents an interesting mix of risk (injuries, role) versus reward (talent and teammates).
