Dallas will host Ales Hemsky's old team, the Edmonton Oilers, on Tuesday night.
He played 652 games with the organization after he was drafted 13th overall by the Oilers in the 2001 NHL Entry Draft. Hemsky is excited for the contest and he's been showing signs of getting out of his scoring funk. "I feel like I'm getting plenty of good chances, and they're just not going in," he said. "When you do that, you just have to keep working and doing the same things, and you have to believe they will start going in." He's back to playing with Jason Spezza and has three assists in his past two games. Nov 25 - 10:17 AM

Ales Hemsky was urged by coach Lindy Ruff to start shooting more.

He doesn't have a goal on 32 shots in 18 games this season. Hemsky is back skating with Jason Spezza on the Stars' second line. "Ales is more of a play-maker, so he's not usually going to have high goal totals, but I am a goal scorer, and I need to have more than three," Spezza said. "We have to find a way to be patient around the net and then make the move to put the puck in. We're close, but we have to finish." The duo is worth keeping an eye on.
Nov 19 - 5:06 PM

Dallas Stars winger Ales Hemsky may get a longer look on the top line after enjoying a few solid shifts with Jamie Benn and Tyler Seguin on Saturday.

Hemsky hasn't been very effective for the Stars so far, to put things charitably. He only has two assists (zero goals) in 16 games. If anything can inject some life into his game, it's playing with Dallas' dynamic duo. He might be worth monitoring if he can stick with Benn and Seguin for a decent stretch.
Nov 16 - 2:19 PM

Ales Hemsky will be back in the Dallas lineup Saturday afternoon against Minnesota.

He sat in the press box as a healthy scratch against the Kings Thursday night. Hemsky will skate on the Stars' third line alongside Vern Fiddler and Curtis McKenzie. Despite coach Lindy Ruff's assertion that Hemsky has played better away from Jason Spezza than with him, we don't believe Hemsky's current line assignment will help him out of his season-long slump.
Nov 15 - 12:54 PM

After spending a game in the press box, Ales Hemsky will return to the Stars' lineup on Saturday.

We'll see if being a healthy scratch will light a fire under Hemsky. He's gotten off to a terrible start with just one assist in 15 games.
Nov 14 - 6:05 PM

Ales Hemsky watched Thursday's 2-0 win over Los Angeles from the press box as a healthy scratch.

It's been a disappointing start to the season for Hemsky, who has one assist in 15 games. He was projected to play alongside Tyler Seguin or Jason Spezza, but he hasn't seen much ice time with either of them so far.
Nov 14 - 10:51 AM

Ales Hemsky might be a healthy scratch Thursday night.

"[Hemsky] is going to be a game-time decision," said coach Lindy Ruff. "We don't know if Eakin is going to be ready. I've asked him to put in a little extra work." If Eakin is ready to play then Hemsky could draw out of the lineup. Hemsky, who has one assist in 15 games, did not have a line and he stayed on the ice longer than usual during Thursday's morning session.
Nov 13 - 5:06 PM

Ales Hemsky has to show that he deserves more ice time.

Of course that could be difficult when he could open Thursday's game on the fourth line. He's unlikely to be scratched despite his struggles on offense. Hemsky has picked up one assist in 15 games this campaign.
Nov 13 - 11:50 AM

In an effort to wake up his slumping club, Dallas coach Lindy Ruff may break up his top line.

In the third period of Thursday's game he put Ales Hemsky out with Jason Spezza and Jamie Benn and the trio looked strong. Tyler Seguin took some shifts with Antoine Rousell and Patrick Eaves. It is unclear if Ruff will continue this alignment but he needs to do something as the Stars have lost the ability to score. If Hemsky, who has only one point this season, does play with Spezza and Benn it would do wonders for his fantasy value.
Nov 8 - 1:05 PM

Ales Hemsky has been reunited with Jason Spezza.

Hemsky was expected to get regular minutes with Spezza this season, but lately Spezza has been playing alongside Jamie Benn and Tyler Seguin. Now that Valeri Nichushkin is projected to return though, Spezza is being moved down to the second line. That's great news for Hemsky, who excelled when playing with Spezza last season, but has just one assist in 11 games in 2014-15.
Nov 4 - 3:07 PM

Ales Hemsky (upper body) is expected to be able to play on Tuesday.

He exited Saturday's game against Minnesota in the second period with an upper-body injury, but skated in Monday's practice without an issue. "He got through practice, which is good, so I would anticipate him being able to play," said coach Lindy Ruff.
Nov 3 - 6:19 PM

Ales Hemsky left Saturday night's 4-1 loss to Minnesota with an upper-body injury.

No word on the severity of the injury yet but we should know more once Hemsky is re-evaluated Monday. For now reserve him and consider him day-to-day.
Nov 2 - 12:41 PM

Coach Lindy Ruff wants to get Ales Hemsky going offensively, so he's considering putting him on the top power-play unit.

"I'd like to get Hemsky involved a little bit with the first power play unit," Ruff said. "He's really skated well and worked hard. It's my responsibility to give him some help to get going. He's put the work in and he should get rewarded." Hemsky has been bumped down to Dallas' fourth line and he has one assist in nine games. He still could get a spot on a scoring line if/when the Stars choose to separate Tyler Seguin and Jason Spezza.
Oct 29 - 5:38 PM

Ales Hemsky has registered only one assist this season to date.

For those ready to drop the veteran winger we suggest you show a little patience. It is not as if Hemsky is not playing well. For example, Friday night he took a game-high eight shots on goal and was the contest's third star despite not hitting the scoresheet. It is only a matter of time before Hemsky breaks out. Don't drop him yet.
Oct 25 - 1:39 PM

Ales Hemsky is projected to see time on Dallas' top power-play unit this season.

Coach Lindy Ruff has put together a combination of Hemsky, Tyler Seguin, Jamie Benn and Jason Spezza for the first line. The Dallas bench boss has tinkered with defensemen Alex Goligoski and Trevor Daley on the unit, but he has kept those four forwards and he likes what he's seen.
