Chuck Kobasew still has confidence in himself that he can score.
"I know I can score goals and have confidence in myself. I've done it before," he said. "But when you're in the NHL, you want to do anything to stay in the NHL. It's the best league in the world." He has reached the 20-goal mark three times in his career, but the past three seasons he hasn't been able to hit 10. Kobasew is eligible to become an unrestricted free agent this summer. After 27 games this year, he has four goals and eight points, but he did get to play with Gabriel Landeskog and Ryan O'Reilly for part of Wednesday's game and managed to score the game-winning goal. Chuck Kobasew was moved up Wednesday night from the fourth line by Colorado coach Joe Sacco and the right winger responded with a plus-4 in the Avalanche's 4-3 victory over the Dallas Stars.

"Kobasew was brilliant," Denver Post hockey writer Adrian Dater blogged. "He’s a guy I ripped on a lot last year, but I’ve been impressed with his work ethic this year, despite being relegated to the bottom lines before (last night). Nice to see him get rewarded."

Chuck Kobasew might end up getting some playing time with Steve Downie (knee) out for the season.

Kobasew spent the Avalanche's first two games in the press box, but it wouldn't be surprising to see him in the lineup on Thursday. In the short-term there could be a lot of line shuffling, in part because restricted free agent Ryan O'Reilly might join the team in the near future. Kobasew is only worth picking up if you're in a particularly deep league as he just doesn't do much offensively.

Kobasew missed some practice last week and was unable to suit up in the opener Saturday. He is just a fourth line player at best at this stage of his career so his fantasy value is negligible.
