Radek Martinek made two huge mistakes Tuesday in the Islanders 3-2 loss to the Rangers.

Martinek made a couple of rookie mistakes, not something you would expect out of a 37-year-old veteran as he left the bench on one play, forcing a too many men on the ice call in which the Rangers scored on the ensuing power play. He then meandered over to the left side of the ice, allowing Benoit Pouliot to go up the middle untouched for the winning goal. Coach Jack Capuano was very upset after the game but the Islanders do not have any options on the blueline at this time unless they recall someone from the minors.

Radek Martinek has inked a one-year, $600,000 contract with the New York Islanders.

The Islanders decided they needed another veteran defenseman after Lubomir Visnovsky sustained a concussion. Martinek has 25 goals and 107 points in 473 career games.

Radek Martinek could sign a deal with the New York Islanders this week.

Martinek has been practicing with the Islanders for the last week and with the concussion suffered by Lubomir Visnovsky on Saturday, the Islanders could need another defenseman very quickly. He has played most of his career on Long Island save for seven games with Columbus in 2011-12. He has some value in blocked shots but little else.

Radek Martinek appears to be close to agreeing to attend New York's training camp on a tryout basis.

He skated in 13 games with the Islanders last season in addition to two playoff matches. Martinek can contribute blocked shots, but aside from that he doesn't have anything going for him from a fantasy hockey point of view.

Radek Martinek logged 19:14 of ice time in his 2013 playoff debut Thursday night.

He didn't play in New York's first four postseason contests, but got the chance to play because of an injury to shutdown defenseman Andrew MacDonald. Martinek finished the Islanders' Game 5 4-0 loss to Pittsburgh with two shots and a minus-1 rating.

Radek Martinek may get a chance to play in the postseason with Andrew MacDonald sidelined.

Martinek appeared in just 13 games for the Islanders during the regular season. Matt Carkner, who has suited up in three of the team's four playoff contests, may get an increase in ice time as well.

Radek Martinek played in his first game since Feb. 26 on Tuesday night against Montreal.

He was credited with the game-winning goal in the contest. Martinek has played in just three games this season and was put back into the lineup because Lubomir Visnovsky is away from the team on a personal matter.

Radek Martinek will make his season debut Sunday against the Carolina Hurricanes.

Martinek was signed by the Islanders during training camp, but he hasn't played a game yet this season because of a groin injury. He will replace Joe Finley in tonight's lineup but wont have much fantasy value this season.
