The Buffalo Sabres haven't provided an update regarding the status of Ales Kotalik.

Kotalik, who is scheduled to earn $3 million this season, was sent to the AHL, but has yet to report for duty. It looks like Kotalik would rather spend the season in Europe and the Sabres are trying to make arrangements to that end. Stay tuned.

Ales Kotalik has not reported for assignment in the AHL yet.

He remained in Buffalo after passing through waivers, as it is believed the Sabres are trying to work out something with a team in Europe. We'll keep you posted if Kotalik gets loaned elsewhere for this campaign.

Ales Kotalik has been placed on waivers by the Buffalo Sabres.

Kotalik has struggled and will likely be sent to the minors if he passes waivers. Stay tuned for more info here.

Ales Kotalik is in a four-way battle for the 12th and 13th spots up front for the Buffalo Sabres.

Kotalik enters camp on a huge downer as he lost close friends Jan Marek, Karel Rachunek and Josef Vasicek in the Russian air tragedy earlier this month. He will try to fend off Cody McCormick, Matt Ellis and Luke Adam to remain with the Sabres. "I've got to believe in myself. I hope that I will be on this team and I feel I will do good things for this team," Kotalik said. "You just want to enjoy spending time, having fun, because you never know what can happen." He will have very little, if any, fantasy value as a fourth line player at best.

Ales Kotalik is determined to stay with the Buffalo Sabres when the training camp dust settles.

"Absolutely, I want to stay in Buffalo," said Kotalik in a phone interview from the Czech Republic. "I'm coming to training camp with an open mind. I know that I can measure with anybody on that team. I can measure myself up with any guy on that squad, on that team, and I hope I will get the opportunity that I need. Everything else is up to me." His confidence was bolstered by the fact that Buffalo GM Darcy Regier and owner Terry Pegula told him that they still believe he can play at the NHL level. It may be a difficult task for him to make the opening day roster though unless the Sabres free up some cap space.

The Buffalo Sabres are $3,595,357 over the NHL's salary cap of $64.3 million, according to, going into training camp.

If they choose not to make a trade with a team trying to reach the cap floor then demoting players like Ales Kotalik ($3 million) and Shaone Morrisonn ($2,075,000) to the minors will free up the necessary space quite easily. Stay tuned to see what they decide.

Sabres' GM Darcy Regier confirmed the team has no plans to buy out newly re-acquired forward Ales Kotalik.

"Al can play in the National Hockey League," Regier said. "He played an important role for us, and we expect him to come into [training] camp and compete for a position." If he cracks the squad, Kotalik has the potential for upside as a power-play specialist.

The Buffalo Sabres have re-acquired Ales Kotalik from Calgary.

Kotalik, a former member of the Sabres, was acquired officially on Saturday from Calgary. He was traded along with Robyn Regehr and a second round pick for Paul Byron and Chris Butler.

Ales Kotalik will probably start the 2011-12 season in the minors or Europe.

Calgary is close to the cap going into the free agent market, so they will probably give themselves more flexibility by keeping Kotalik off their NHL roster and therefore sparing the team of Kotalik's $3 million annual cap hit. Calgary is probably more than willing to trade Kotalik, but we doubt there will be any takers. He had four goals and six points in 26 games in 2010-11.

Ales Kotalik is back down in the minors after the Flames demoted him on Thursday.

He posted one goal and three points in six games with Calgary in his most recent stint with the team. Kotalik returned with a bang with two points in his first match back. Kotalik has another year left on his current contract that pays him $3 million annually.

Ales Kotalik looks to draw back into the lineup after an impressive first game back from the minors.

Kotalik was struggling mightily so the Flames sent him to the AHL. Upon his return, which came last game, he had a goal, assist, and five hits. With performances like that the Flames will have no problem keeping him with the club. Expect Kotalik to be in the lineup on Saturday.

Ales Kotalik is expected to practice with the Flames on Wednesday after he passed through re-entry waivers and has been recalled by the team.

"He's a guy who has played at this level," said coach Brent Sutter on Tuesday. "He's had production in the past at this level. Who knows? Maybe if he comes back he can give us the production that we would like him to...And production isn't just about points. It's other things too." Kotalik has scored three goals in 20 games this season.

Ales Kotalik is back on re-entry waivers.

The first time Calgary put Kotalik on re-entry waivers, they were hoping someone might claim him for half his salary. This time around, Calgary probably intends to use Kotalik to help them deal with a recent rash of injuries. Kotalik didn't do much at the NHL level this season, but he does have four goals and 19 points in 18 games with the AHL Abbotsford Heat.
