Derek Roy scored the lone Vancouver goal in a 5-1 loss to the Stars on Thursday.

Roy has only recorded four points in eight games with the Canucks, but a recent move to the wing alongside Ryan Kesler may have jumpstarted. This goal against his former team was the only one registered by Vancouver on this night.
Apr 18 - 11:39 PM

It turned out that the Canucks moved Derek Roy to the wing on Monday instead of Ryan Kesler and the results were great.

It was thought that Kesler would be the player moving from the center spot but Alain Vigneault moved Roy instead. "I told (Alain Vigneault) I played wing (in the 2007) playoffs and before you know it, I look on the board and I'm on the wing," Roy said. Roy had a goal and an assist in the game with Kesler finding the net twice. Jannik Hansen played on the other side.
Apr 16 - 11:43 AM

The Vancouver Canucks will go with Alex Burrows and Ryan Kesler flanking Derek Roy on the second line Monday.

The Canucks are trying to get Roy going as he doesn't have a point in his last four games with Vancouver after being acquired five games ago from Dallas. The Canucks will move Jannik Hansen to the top line with the Sedin twins to accommodate Burrows moving down to the second line. This move should work for Roy although he is talented enough to come out of the slump on his own.
Apr 15 - 11:39 AM

Derek Roy will make his Vancouver debut Thursday when the high-flying Edmonton Oilers visit.

He will center the second line between Chris Higgins and Jannik Hansen. Roy left the Dallas Stars with one goal and five assists in his final five games with the club.
Apr 4 - 3:54 PM

The Vancouver Canucks have acquired Derek Roy from the Dallas Stars in exchange for defenseman Kevin Connauton and a second-round pick.

Roy will slide in immediately as the Canucks' No. 2 center and should see a decent boost to his fantasy value, especially once Mason Raymond is healthy. The question becomes whether he'll remain on the second line once Ryan Kesler is back in the lineup. Connauton has yet to play in an NHL game after being selected with the 83rd overall pick in the 2009 draft. He has seven goals and 25 points in 60 AHL games this season.
Apr 2 - 2:09 PM

The Dallas Stars have traded Derek Roy to the Vancouver Canucks for a second-round pick and a prospect, Nick Kypreos of Sportsnet reports.

Roy is scheduled to be an unrestricted free agent this summer and there had been rumblings that Dallas was more interested in trading him than re-signing him. Roy should fit right in as the Canucks' No. 2 center, which is a spot they've been trying to fill all season with Ryan Kesler sidelined. Roy has four goals and 22 points in 30 games and would get an immediate boost with this reported deal.
Apr 2 - 12:41 PM

The Dallas Stars are thinking of trading Derek Roy instead of re-signing him.

Roy, the Stars' No. 2 center, has 16 points (three goals, 13 assists) in 23 games for the Stars and leads the team in plus-minus at plus-7. That’s been helpful as No. 1 center Jamie Benn is a team-worst minus-8. Just as he seems to be finding his stride, though, there is talk that he might be traded. who can become an unrestricted free agent in the summer. If that continues, there is a very good chance the Stars will trade Roy rather than re-sign him. The sides have been discussing a new contract but sources say they're not close. "I understand the situation, and you never know what can happen, so I just concentrate on my game," Roy said. "It’s fine, honestly. I just try to work on my game, and everything will figure itself out. I want to play better, I want us to win games, and if that happens, then I’ll be happy. I’ll adjust to whatever else happens, but I just believe that if I play well and if I help my team play well, then everything else will fall into place."
Mar 21 - 10:35 AM

Derek Roy has indicated that his agent is discussing the possibility of negotiating a long-term contract with the Stars.

Roy will be an unrestricted free agent at season's end and the Stars may consider moving him at the trade deadline if the two sides don't come to an agreement. "They’ve been talking, so it’s been good," Roy said, referring to his agent and the Stars' front office. "Me and Joe have had a talk, too, so that’s good. But, like I said, I can’t focus on that or my game will go downhill pretty fast. That’s why I hired an agent." The fact that he's playing for a new deal is a good reason to bank on Roy down the stretch.
Mar 9 - 11:02 AM

Derek Roy is starting to get hot as he has two goals and five points in his last three games.

Roy was acquired in the off-season in exchange for Steve Ott as the Stars needed some offensive production out of the second line center spot. His play has been hampered this season by injuries but he has come on of late. "I’m not making excuses for Derek Roy, but yesterday was the first day he said he felt 100 percent healthy," Stars coach Glen Gulutzan said on Sunday. "I thought he was really good tonight, he was quick on pucks, he made good little plays, that's what we're going to get moving forward. It's been a while since he felt 100 percent, but we're relying on him, and we think he can deliver." He now has three goals and 14 points in 17 games with a plus-seven rating and is owned in only 21 percent of Yahoo! leagues so he would be a nice pick up at this time, even in shallower leagues.
Mar 4 - 7:45 AM

Derek Roy scored a goal and two assists in the Dallas Stars' 4-1 win against the St. Louis Blues on Sunday.

Perhaps he's settling in with newly traded winger Erik Cole? Roy is a solid depth center in deeper leagues, with the motivation of a contract year hanging over his head. If he's available and you're in need, give him a try.
Mar 3 - 5:55 PM

Derek Roy produced a goal and an assist in Dallas' 5-4 overtime win versus Columbus Tuesday night.

He scored early in the second period and helped set up Loui Eriksson's game-winning goal in the extra frame. Roy also led all skaters in the match with six shots on net. Antoine Roussel finished the game with a goal and an assist as well, while blueliners Stephane Robidas and Brenden Dillon contributed two helpers apiece.
Feb 26 - 10:29 PM

After struggling to score early in the season, the Dallas Stars have turned things around recently.

Getting Jamie Benn under contract and the return of Derek Roy from a groin injury have helped, allowing the Stars to get both their top two centers in the lineup. Roy has a goal and nine points in 11 games this season. But an increase in depth scoring has played a big role in the recent offensive output as well. Over the first 12 games, 19 of the Stars’ 25 goals (76 percent) came from the top six forwards. Over the last four games, 10 of the Stars’ 15 goals (67 percent) have come from guys not playing in the top six. "We’re a team that is going to have to do it collectively," said Stars coach Glen Gulutzan. "We need contributions from everybody." The contributions from depth players have helped. In the first seven games the Stars received goals from seven different players, and scored 13 total goals (1.86 per game). Over their last seven games they’ve received goals from 12 different players and scored 24 goals (3.43 per game).
Feb 20 - 1:51 PM

Derek Roy registered an assist on Sunday.

Roy now has a goal and nine points in 11 games this season. He's bouncing back nicely from his rough 2011-12 campaign with Buffalo and it wouldn't be shocking if he maintains this pace.
Feb 18 - 10:17 AM

Derek Roy (groin) returned to the Dallas Stars' lineup on Monday.

Roy had an assist and logged 21:00 minutes of playing time. Clearly the Stars didn't feel the need to ease him into the lineup. He initially sustained the injury on Jan. 24 and missed five games as a result.
