Derek Roy potted his first goal of the season in Tuesday's 9-2 thumping of Toronto.
It marked his first marker since Feb. 8, 2014 when he was playing with the St. Louis Blues. The point was also the 500th of his career. Roy has eight points in 18 games with Nashville this year. Nov 19 - 12:44 PM

Derek Roy contributed a pair of helpers in Thursday's 3-2 victory against Dallas.

He set goals by Craig Smith (power play) and Matt Cullen in the contest to give him seven points in 13 games. Roy still doesn't have a goal in a Nashville uniform yet, but his growing chemistry with Smith and Cullen should lead to more production.

Derek Roy left Wednesday's practice early as a precaution, but he practiced fully Thursday.

It's unclear what the issue was. It sounds like he'll be available to play Friday night in Winnipeg, though. Roy has an assist in each of his first three games with the Predators.

A line to watch at training camp for the Predators could be a combination of Derek Roy, Craig Smith and Colin Wilson.

"They're both good players with the puck and real smart," Roy said. "Smitty's an offensive dynamic with a great shot. Colin is a great passer and has great vision around the ice. I'm looking forward to playing with those guys and seeing where it goes." Roy inked a one-year, $1 million contract with Nashville back in July after he accounted for nine goals and 37 points in 75 games with St. Louis last season.

According to teammate James Neal, Derek Roy looks terrific after an intense off-season training regimen.

Roy worked out with Neal and fitness guru and former NHL'er Gary Roberts. "[Derek] came in and trained with us; he looks great," Neal said Friday. "He had a great summer training. I worked out with him every day; he was good in the gym and he looked great on the ice, so we expect a big year out of him." If Neal is correct, Roy could play a big role with the Predators this coming season. He may even center Neal as the two may have bonded over the summer. Watch Roy in training camp to see how he looks and where he plays. He could be a sleeper.

After three sub-par years, Derek Roy knew his training needed to change and he knew he needed to work on his nutrition.

So this summer the veteran center, who signed a one-year, $1 million contract with the Predators last Tuesday, enrolled in Gary Roberts' fitness program in Toronto. Roberts, a former NHL forward, is renowned these days for his intense fitness regimen. He has mentored many NHL players, most notably Tampa Bay Lightning All-Star Steven Stamkos. Roy hopes being in better shape will help him avoid some of the injuries that slowed him down in recent seasons. "I wanted to come in the best shape I could possibly coming into the season, and that's why I sought out Gary and his workout program," Roy, 31, said. "I'm feeling great right now and hopefully at the end of the summer I'll be feeling better and not focusing on injuries. From a nutrition standpoint and working with some of the best athletes around has been good. It has been good for my health." Roy had only 37 points in 75 games with St. Louis last season.

Nashville Predators GM David Poile thinks he's offering Derek Roy his "last chance" to prove that he can still be a top-tier skilled forward.

Roy is still only 31, so we think he'll get other chances, at the same time, it is certainly true that he might never get another opportunity to rebound that's as good as the one Poile's giving him. The Predators are shifting philosophies to one that favors offense, but they lack skilled forwards. That's put Roy in a position to serve on one of the Predators' top two lines and get plenty of power-play minutes. He had just 37 points in 75 games last season, but there was a time when he would consistently get over 60 points per campaign.
Jul 16 - 9:54 AM

Derek Roy has inked a one-year, $1 million contract with the Nashville Predators.

Nashville also signed Mike Ribeiro to a one-year, $1.05 million contract Tuesday morning. Like Ribeiro, Roy could prove to be a big steal for the Predators, but there's also a reason why he would sign at that price. Roy has seen his production decline significantly over the last few years and he just had 37 points in 75 games with St. Louis in 2013-14. Still, he's just 31 and will probably start the season on one of Nashville's top two lines. Combine that with the Predators desire to put a greater emphasis on offense next season and the stage seems set for Roy to bounce back.
Jul 15 - 12:28 PM

There is speculation that Derek Roy will soon sign a contract with an NHL team.

That's not saying much. Apparently there is one team in the east and one in the west that are interested in Roy's services. Roy was terrible in 2013-14 with only 37 points in 75 games, far below his .77 points per game career production. Depending where he lands and the role he is given, Roy is a comeback candidate in 2014-15.
Jul 5 - 11:40 AM

The St. Louis Blues added some offensive skill to their lineup for Game 6 against the Chicago Blackhawks on Sunday, with Derek Roy in for Adam Cracknell.

Roy has been highly disappointing in both fantasy and reality this season, but St. Louis would feel a lot better about him if he can keep their playoff hopes alive. Roy is fighting for a new contract, so better late than never.
Apr 27 - 3:05 PM

Derek Roy was a healthy scratch Friday night.

He sat in the press box in favor of David Backes, who returned from a concussion or neck injury. Roy, who is a free agent come July 1st, is not a favorite of Blues' coach Ken Hitchcock and there does not seem to be any way the talented but inconsistent pivot will return to St. Louis next season.
Apr 26 - 1:39 PM

Derek Roy is expected to center the second line Friday night.

Jaden Schwartz and T.J. Oshie will round out the scoring unit. In the unlikely event that David Backes (upper body) is healthy enough to play, he is expected to replace Roy on that line.
Apr 25 - 3:24 PM

Derek Roy got back into St. Louis' lineup on Wednesday in Game 4.

It was thought that he was a healthy scratch in Game 3, but coach Ken Hitchcock indicated that Roy was banged up. "He got whacked around a little bit in Game 2 and wasn't able to play his game," said the Blues bench boss. Roy has one assist in three playoff games against Chicago in the series.
Apr 24 - 12:49 PM

Derek Roy will be a healthy scratch in Game 3.

Patrik Berglund will return to the lineup on Monday night, so Roy will take a seat in the press box. Roy has one assist and six shots in two games versus Chicago. He was limited to just 10:48 of ice time in Saturday's contest.
Apr 21 - 6:12 PM

Derek Roy (undisclosed) has returned from an undisclosed injury.

Roy missed Friday's game due to the ailment. He has nine goals and 37 points in 74 games in 2013-14.
