Mike Cammalleri will be scratched for the second straight game during Sunday's rematch with the Islanders.

Mark it the first time in the talented veteran's career that he's a healthy scratch in consecutive games. Cammalleri has not found the back of the net in 18 games and while he has 10 goals and 30 points in 51 games, the Devils expect a lot more out of him offensively.

Coach John Hynes did not say if there would be any changes to the lineup that won 3-2 over the Islanders on Saturday. "It’s a great question," Hynes said when asked about Sunday’s lineup. "I don’t have the answer. I don’t know who’s going to be in the lineup." Cammalleri has not found the back of the net in 18 games and while he has 10 goals and 30 points in 51 games, the Devils expect a lot more out of him offensively.

He had 14 points in eight games before that so perhaps this is the start of another hot streak. He has 10 goals and 25 points in 42 games this season, so he has been a marginal fantasy player in deeper pools.

It was a solid night at the office for Cammalleri, who came into this game with just one assist in his previous eight games. Cammalleri picked up the primary assist on Adam Henrique's second period-goal and he added a goal of his own in the third frame. He finished the game with a plus-3 rating and one hit in 14:40 of ice time. The 34-year-old is up to 10 goals and 11 assists in 33 games.

That's a lot of production for the veteran forward who started the season off slow with three assists in 10 games but has nine goals and 14 points in his last eight games. He has been outstanding and the Devils are finally starting to score with some regularity with Travis Zajac and Taylor Hall also hitting the scoresheet.

It's the second two-goal effort for the veteran winger in a week. With points in four of his last five games, Cammalleri is now up to nine goals and 17 points in 18 games thus far.

It was a big week for Cammalleri who returned after a six game absence to deal with his daughter's illness and subsequent surgery. He had four goals and eight points in three games this past week and now has seven of each in 15 games. He has gone from a must sit to a must start of late.

Michael Cammalleri scored twice in a 4-3 shootout loss of the New Jersey Devils to the Pittsburgh Penguins Saturday night.

Cammalleri has come on strong in recent weeks. All seven of his season goals have been earned since November 6th when he had a hat trick against the Hurricanes. He earned one each against Toronto and Detroit before Saturday night’s multi-performance. Four of his seven assists have come in the last three games.

Cammalleri missed six games because of personal reasons earlier this month, but he's been on fire since returning. He scored four points on Wednesday night and added two more tonight. Mike Cammalleri scored a goal and three assists in Wednesday's 5-4 shootout win over the Toronto Maple Leafs.

The Devils fell behind 3-0 in the first period, but battled their way back. Cammalleri did most of his damage in second period, as he helped set up goals by Travis Zajac and Beau Bennett and his goal at the 5:30 mark of the period made it 3-3. The Leafs jumped back ahead 4-3, but Cammalleri also helped set up the game-tying goal. The Devils sniper missed his attempt in the shootout, but Jacob Josefson eventually scored the winner. The 34-year-old has four goals and 10 points in 13 games this season.
