Date:

Paul Martin (hand) will be back in the lineup Thursday versus Winnipeg.

He was injured during the 2014 Sochi Olympics while playing for the United States and hasn't played for the Penguins since Feb. 7. Martin has 12 points in 33 games this season.
Apr 3 - 1:58 PM

Paul Martin (hand) took part in Monday's practice.

"It was just good in general to be out with the guys," said Martin. "It's been a long couple weeks, so it's nice to see light at end of the tunnel and get back to practice and hopefully play soon." He's been out for 17 straight contests, but might be back this weekend. That being said, Penguins coach Dan Bylsma cautioned that there's no concrete date for his return yet.
Apr 1 - 10:31 AM

Paul Martin (hand) has resumed skating.

He's slated to have another X-ray on his hand this weekend. He suffered a broken hand during the Sochi Olympics, which required surgery to repair.
Mar 27 - 1:21 PM

Penguins defenseman Paul Martin, who broke his right hand while playing for Team USA at the Olympics, had surgery Thursday.

Coach Dan Bylsma said doctors felt that surgery "would be a better avenue for recovery, a quicker recovery." Martin is a top-notch, stay-at-home blueliner. His offensive numbers this season: two goals, 10 assists, in 33 games.
Mar 1 - 11:09 AM

Paul Martin sustained a broken hand during the Winter Olympics.

Martin will miss the next four-to-six weeks as a result. Realistically, his season is now essentially done from a fantasy perspective, but the Penguins will at least get him back in time for the playoffs.
Feb 25 - 1:16 PM

Paul Martin's hand injury isn't expected to sidelined him for the remainder of the season, but that is subject to change.

Pittsburgh still needs to evaluate him, so this timetable might prove to be inaccurate. Still, the most important thing to the Penguins at this point is that Martin is available for the playoffs. They already have a firm lead on the Metropolitan Division title and this injury does nothing to put that in jeopardy. It looks like the impact to fantasy teams might prove to be greater than that to the Penguins.
Feb 21 - 10:53 AM

Paul Martin reportedly has a hand injury, not an illness.

Either way Martin will not play against Canada in the Olympic semifinals, but this might be a much more significant problem than it originally looked like. There's no word yet on the severity of Martin's hand injury, but it would be a big setback for the Penguins if he's not available by the start of the playoffs.
Feb 21 - 9:52 AM

Paul Martin is dealing with an illness.

That explains why Martin will not be participating in America's semifinals match against Canada. As previously reported, Justin Faulk has been inserted into the United States' lineup as a result.
Feb 21 - 8:00 AM

Paul Martin will not play for Team USA against Canada on Friday.

It's not clear why Martin isn't playing. It seems probable that it's due to an injury or illness, but that's just speculation at this point. Justin Faulk will replace him in the lineup.
Feb 21 - 7:30 AM

Paul Martin is thrilled to finally be playing for Team USA.

Martin didn't have the opportunity to represent his country in 2010 because of an injury, but the 32-year-old defenseman made his Olympic debut on Thursday. "You know, I grew up playing for my country, always wanting to play for my country," Martin said. "When you miss a couple Olympics and you're older, you appreciate it that much more. In that moment, it was emotional, definitely. I was out there on the ice skating around, just thinking, 'I'm on the ice for my first Olympic game. It's happening.'"
Feb 14 - 5:50 PM

Defenseman Paul Martin stands to receive a lot of ice time for Team USA during the Olympics.

Martin is tentatively scheduled to be teamed with Minnesota's Ryan Suter on the top pairing for the Americans meaning he's likely to be fairly busy. Though coach Dan Bylsma could very well juggle his pairings throughout the tournament, the fact Martin is one of the few veterans on the US blue line means he's likely to be relied upon heavily.
Feb 12 - 10:11 PM

Paul Martin (fractured tibia) was activated from the IL on Monday January 20.

Martin had a minus-one rating and was on the ice for 20:06 minutes in Pittsburgh's 5-1 loss to the Florida Panthers. It was Martin's first game since Nov. 25.
Jan 21 - 1:34 AM

Paul Martin (fractured tibia) might be back in Pittsburgh's lineup Monday night.

Coach Dan Bylsma hinted that Martin is available to return when he said the Penguins now have eight healthy defensemen after Monday's morning skate. Martin was paired with Brooks Orpik during the session, but he's expected to be eased into the fold when he plays. If you've been waiting to get him back into your lineup then get ready to activate him.
