Speaking to the media, General Manager Doug Wilson has stated he is working with Paul Martin's agent to "explore all options".

Wilson added that if he can't work out a trade, waivers and a few games with the San Jose Barracuda could be an option. Martin has struggled through an ankle injury for most of the season and has failed to pick up a point in three games so far. It's a fall from grace for a veteran defenseman that was a big part of the Sharks team that made it to the Stanley Cup Final during the 2015-16 season.
Jan 14 - 4:55 PM

Paul Martin has not played in the NHL since December 7.

Martin was dealing with an ankle injury but was taken off injured reserve after the Christmas break when he returned from a four game conditioning stint in the minors that did not go well. He has only played in that one game since October 7 and was a minus-two against the Hurricanes, looking lost in the game. It could be tough to trade him as it appears his NHL career may be at an end.

Paul Martin will sit out Thursday night's game (ankle) against the Toronto Maple Leafs.

Martin is still sidelined with an ankle injury. While the team believed he could be back once the Christmas break ends, his return date is not today. The Sharks will also sit Jannik Hansen and Tim Heed. Martin has zero points in three games played this season.

Paul Martin (ankle) will probably be able to return on Thursday.

Martin hasn't been able to play since Oct. 7. "I think that was kind of the plan," Martin said, referring to a Thursday return. "Once we get off the road trip to come off IR and to go from there. I'm not 100% sure yet, but I'd like to think so." If he does rejoin the Sharks, he will probably be paired with Brent Burns.

Paul Martin (ankle) is getting close to returning, according to Sharks coach Peter DeBoer.

We don't have a specific target for his return date, but Martin hasn't played since Oct. 7, so just considering him day-to-day at this point is a big plus. Martin had four goals and 26 points in 81 contests last season.

Paul Martin (lower body) was absent for a 15th consecutive game on Thursday.

It looked like Martin might be able to return as early on Nov. 11, but he's remained on the sidelines. The good news is that he has been skating without pain so it might not be too much longer before he does come back.
