Paul Martin sat out Saturday's game with an undisclosed injury.

Mirco Mueller replaced Martin on the blueline. Coach Peter DeBoer said "(Martin is) dealing with a little something and I just didn't want to take a risk. We had Mirco here and he actually went in and I thought played a real good game for us." Look for Martin to return for Game 1 of the first round of the playoffs. He has no real fantasy value but could be a late round pick if you think the Sharks are going places.

Paul Martin will be scratched against the Coyotes on Saturday

Martin's regular season ends with his 10th campaign in 12 tries with at least 20 points, along with 123 blocks in 78 games. Pretty good for the wily veteran.
Apr 9 - 10:14 PM

Paul Martin ended his 31 game goal drought during Thursday's 5-4 loss to the Jets.

It's just his third goal and 20th point of the season, and he had just eight assists during the goal drought. Then again, the Sharks didn't sign the veteran defender for his offensive prowess.
Apr 8 - 1:47 AM

Paul Martin will be well enough to play on Saturday after missing a bit of time in the third period Thursday.

Martin has not been fantasy-relevant for a couple of seasons now but he is still a stalwart defensively and helps Martin Jones keep the puck out of the net. "I feel pretty good," Martin said. "Neck a little sore just from getting clipped, but for the most part it’s nothing serious or different from how I’d expect."
Feb 13 - 12:35 PM

Paul Martin's brief hot streak is firmly behind him now.

Martin went through a stretch from Nov. 13-21 where he recorded five points in as many games. Since then though he's been held off the scoresheet and has a minus-seven rating in four contests. He's not a great option in standard fantasy leagues.

Paul Martin has three assists in 14 games this season.

Martin is one of those players that has significantly more value to his team than he does to most fantasy owners. He just doesn't do enough offensively to put him on people's radar if they're concerned about a standard league.

Paul Martin (lower body) returned to action on Saturday.

The Sharks certainly did not shy away from using Martin as he was second on the team in ice time Saturday at 21:54, trailing only Brent Burns. Martin had an assist and was a plus-one in the 5-2 win over Carolina. His fantasy value is limited as he sees little power play time, only 1:21 in five games thus far, so he is really not a viable option in standard pools.

Paul Martin (lower body) might be back on Saturday.

Martin has missed three straight games due to the injury. He's been on the ice for two consecutive days and took part in Friday's practice though. "Two days of skating, and no real issues yet," Martin said. "I’m sure we’ll wait and see how it feels tomorrow after the first actual practice with the guys. My plan would be to play tomorrow." He has an assist in four games this season.

He wasn't able to play on Saturday either because of a lower-body ailment. Consider him day-to-day.

Paul Martin is suffering from a lower-body injury.

The Sharks blueliner was a late scratch Saturday night because of the injury. "I don't anticipate it being serious but I don’t know yet," coach Peter DeBoer said. Martin has been an important addition, logging 22:53 of ice time per game with an assist.

Paul Martin will be scratched on Saturday night, which means Dylan DeMelo will make his NHL debut on Saturday.

Martin appears to just be receiving the night off, which lines up well considering he has a point in four games with four blocks, 10 hits, and playing nearly 23 minutes a night.

Paul Martin has been paired with Brent Burns at the beginning of training camp.

The duo looked solid in Tuesday's preseason game. Burns had one goal and one assist and Martin scored as well. Both defenders also finished with plus-2 ratings and they logged more 25 minutes of ice time apiece. They are expected to be together when the Sharks start the regular season.
Wed, Sep 23, 2015 03:32:00 PM

Paul Martin has signed a four-year contract with the San Jose Sharks with an annual average value of $4.85 million.

This is a big signing for the Sharks, especially since they lost out on a trade for Kevin Bieksa. Martin should slot in as a top-four rearguard and get some second power-play ice time with the Sharks. That should be good enough for him to better his 20-point effort of 2014-15. We expect Martin to register between 25-30 points in San Jose, which makes him a marginal fantasy asset.
