Paul Martin has been paired with Brent Burns at the beginning of training camp.
The duo looked solid in Tuesday's preseason game. Burns had one goal and one assist and Martin scored as well. Both defenders also finished with plus-2 ratings and they logged more 25 minutes of ice time apiece. They are expected to be together when the Sharks start the regular season. Sep 23 - 3:32 PM

Paul Martin has signed a four-year contract with the San Jose Sharks with an annual average value of $4.85 million.

This is a big signing for the Sharks, especially since they lost out on a trade for Kevin Bieksa. Martin should slot in as a top-four rearguard and get some second power-play ice time with the Sharks. That should be good enough for him to better his 20-point effort of 2014-15. We expect Martin to register between 25-30 points in San Jose, which makes him a marginal fantasy asset.
Jul 1 - 12:44 PM

It seems that Paul Martin has garnered interest from about six teams.

No word on which teams have interest in the veteran defender Martin, but the Penguins may still be available to Martin should he not strike a deal elsewhere according to Pierre LeBrun. Now 34-years-old, Martin is coming off a five-year contract worth $25M but it doesn't seem likely he'll see a raise.

Paul Martin's agent, Ben Hankinson, countered a report that his client's time with Pittsburgh is over.

Martin is scheduled to become an unrestricted free agent this summer. "No decisions have been made yet on Paul and the Penguins," Hankinson said. "Not ruling out coming back." Penguins GM Jim Rutherford is also not prepared to rule anything out at this time. He had three goals and 20 points in 74 contests in 2014-15.
Jun 12 - 11:19 AM

Paul Martin's time in Pittsburgh is has come to an end.

The 34-year-old veteran defender just completed his five-year $25 million contract with the Penguins, and has been informed that the team will not try to re-sign him. Thus is a signal that Pittsburgh is looking to retool their blue line with younger, quicker defensemen. Martin however should find a market for himself as a reliable mid-tier defender who can score 20+ points and skate 24+ minutes a night.
Jun 11 - 5:28 PM

Paul Martin is eligible to become an unrestricted free agent on July 1.

Paul Martin missed practice on Saturday with an undisclosed injury but is expected to play on Sunday.

The veteran defenseman has two goals and 13 points in 47 games this season with a plus-14 rating. He was apparently hurt in the Detroit game Wednesday. "Then we went to Ottawa, and we were kind of concerned about where he was at, but he played well in that game," coach Mike Johnston said. "He was up in the 20s for minutes. He surpassed where we thought he was going to be for that game. "It's not an injury where it's anything we have to be overly concerned about, but he needed a rest day (Saturday), for sure." If he is unable to go on Sunday, now you'll know why.
Feb 15 - 9:59 AM

Paul Martin had two assists in a 5-3 victory against Winnipeg on Tuesday.

Martin has two goals and 12 points in 39 contests in 2014-15. He might do a bit better for the remainder of the season, but we wouldn't count on him having much fantasy value in standard leagues.

Martin was originally projected to return on Wednesday, but that was based on the assumption that he would be able to practice Monday. Given that that didn't happen, it wouldn't be shocking if his return was pushed back.
