Paul Martin missed practice on Saturday with an undisclosed injury but is expected to play on Sunday.

The veteran defenseman has two goals and 13 points in 47 games this season with a plus-14 rating. He was apparently hurt in the Detroit game Wednesday. "Then we went to Ottawa, and we were kind of concerned about where he was at, but he played well in that game," coach Mike Johnston said. "He was up in the 20s for minutes. He surpassed where we thought he was going to be for that game. "It's not an injury where it's anything we have to be overly concerned about, but he needed a rest day (Saturday), for sure." If he is unable to go on Sunday, now you'll know why.
Feb 15 - 9:59 AM

Paul Martin had two assists in a 5-3 victory against Winnipeg on Tuesday.

Martin has two goals and 12 points in 39 contests in 2014-15. He might do a bit better for the remainder of the season, but we wouldn't count on him having much fantasy value in standard leagues.
Jan 28 - 11:28 AM

Paul Martin (undisclosed) has been activated from injured reserve.

He has been out of action for the last eight games due to an undisclosed injury. Martin will be back in the lineup on Wednesday versus Boston. He has one goal and seven points in 31 games this campaign. Pittsburgh also took Zach Sill off of injured reserve.
Jan 7 - 6:06 PM

Paul Martin (undisclosed) will probably play in Wednesday's game.

Martin has missed eight straight games due to the mystery ailment. He's expected to play alongside Kris Letang and his return might push Scott Harrington back out of the lineup.
Jan 7 - 9:20 AM

Paul Martin (undisclosed) might resume practicing with Pittsburgh on Tuesday.

Martin was originally projected to return on Wednesday, but that was based on the assumption that he would be able to practice Monday. Given that that didn't happen, it wouldn't be shocking if his return was pushed back.
Jan 6 - 8:17 AM

Coach Johnston has said that the Penguins are "hopeful" that defenseman Paul Martin will return to their lineup on Wednesday against the Bruins.

While Martin may still be a very good real life defender, he holds no value in the fantasy world.
Jan 3 - 8:48 PM

Paul Martin (undisclosed) hasn't participated in contact drills yet.

Penguins coach Mike Johnston is hoping Martin gets the green light to take contact in a day or two. With that in mind, we would be surprised if Martin was inserted into the lineup on Friday or Saturday.
Jan 2 - 10:35 AM

Paul Martin (undisclosed) might be available on Friday or Saturday.

Martin shouldn't be counted on to return on Wednesday though. Once he returns, Derrick Pouliot might find himself out of the Penguins' lineup. Martin has a goal and seven points in 31 contests in 2014-15.
Wed, Dec 31, 2014 11:00:00 AM

Paul Martin (undisclosed) skated at practice on Saturday morning.

Martin is likely to return shortly but the Penguins placed him on the injured reserve list in able to make a call up. He has seven points in 31 games so he has not been fantasy relevant this season.

Paul Martin will miss Saturday's game against the Panthers due to an undisclosed injury. He's been placed on I/R as well.

There is no word on what is ailing Martin, but we'll keep you posted as the news breaks. Through 31 games he had seven points, 10 PIMs, 18 hits, and 58 blocks.

Paul Martin wouldn't mind engaging in contract talks during the regular season.

Martin is in the final season of his five-year, $25 million contract. He has four points in 13 games in 2014-15. He's also been logging an average of 21:53 minutes per contest.

Paul Martin doesn't anticipate signing a contract extension in the near future.

Martin has one season left on his five-year, $25 million contract. After missing the bulk of the 2013-14 campaign, the Penguins would probably rather see how Martin does this season before deciding whether or not they want to re-sign him.

Paul Martin will likely be testing free agency next summer.

Martin is entering the final year of a contract that carries a $5 million cap hit. The Penguins think the 33-year-old wants to test the market next summer, and new general manager Jim Rutherford is keen on getting the team’s best defensive prospects into the fold. Martin tallied 15 points in 39 games last season, and has been considered the team’s best defenseman the past two seasons, according to Rob Rossi of the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review.
Sun, Jun 29, 2014 12:09:00 AM

Paul Martin is sixth in the league with an average of 27:32 minutes per game.

Martin is also tied for third place among defenders with eight points in 10 postseason games. "He's huge. He's been huge all playoffs long," Kris Letang said. "He's a really calm guy on the back end. He's really poised with the puck, plays big minutes against top guys. He does everything well on the ice, so he's been a huge asset for us." He was limited to just 39 games during the regular season, but as long as he's healthy, he should continue to be one of the most important players on the Penguins' roster, which is saying a lot given the star power they have.
