Paul Martin has recorded three assists in 13 games in 2016-17.

Martin recorded 20 points in each of his last two seasons and he'll probably end up close to that again. His role has declined so far this season though as he's gone from averaging 20:44 minutes per contest in 2015-16 to 18:16 minutes.
Nov 10 - 11:01 AM

San Jose defenseman Paul Martin thinks the Sharks can win the Cup despite being down three games to two.

Martin left the Penguins as a free agent during the off-season and signed with the Sharks. It's good to let them know we're still here," Martin said of the Penguins. "We played them pretty well at SAP. I've been over there when they've lost 3-1 leads and lost series." Martin was a part of a couple of 3-1 leads with the Penguins so he does know what he is talking about. Martin has five assists in 23 games this post-season but has yet to pick up a point in the Cup Final.
Jun 11 - 9:23 AM

Paul Martin will face his former Pittsburgh Penguin teammates in the Stanley Cup Final.

Martin played five seasons in Pittsburgh before signing with the Sharks as an unrestricted free agent in the summer. He had three goals and 20 points this season, the same stats he had last year in Pittsburgh. The solid defensive defenseman is a valued member of the Sharks and has five assists in 18 games with a plus-10 rating.
May 28 - 10:13 AM

Paul Martin contributed a pair of helpers in Thursday's Game 4 loss to Nashville.

Martin now has a grand total of three points this postseason, but that's not why he's on the team. The effective 41:44 he played tonight while blocking seven shots is.
May 6 - 2:23 AM

The San Jose Sharks showed the effects of a seven day layoff before exploding for five third period goals on Friday.

The Sharks had trouble getting it going to start and they trailed Nashville 1-0 heading into the third but they struck for the five spot for the win. "I think any time you're off for a week, it takes a while to get going," said Shark defenseman Paul Martin, speaking of his own team's long layoff. "But I think toward the end of the second period, we started with the quick-up-and-get-it-in, started to get our own legs going. And it carried over." Game 2 goes Sunday back in San Jose.
Apr 30 - 8:56 AM

Paul Martin will indeed return to San Jose's blue line for Thursday's series open against the Kings.

Martin will pair with Brent Burns as the team's first defensive unit. The veteran defender posted 20 points and 123 blocks in 78 games during the regular season.
Apr 14 - 9:41 PM

Paul Martin sat out Saturday's game with an undisclosed injury.

Mirco Mueller replaced Martin on the blueline. Coach Peter DeBoer said "(Martin is) dealing with a little something and I just didn't want to take a risk. We had Mirco here and he actually went in and I thought played a real good game for us." Look for Martin to return for Game 1 of the first round of the playoffs. He has no real fantasy value but could be a late round pick if you think the Sharks are going places.
Apr 10 - 11:57 AM

Paul Martin will be scratched against the Coyotes on Saturday

Martin's regular season ends with his 10th campaign in 12 tries with at least 20 points, along with 123 blocks in 78 games. Pretty good for the wily veteran.
Apr 9 - 10:14 PM

Paul Martin ended his 31 game goal drought during Thursday's 5-4 loss to the Jets.

It's just his third goal and 20th point of the season, and he had just eight assists during the goal drought. Then again, the Sharks didn't sign the veteran defender for his offensive prowess.
Apr 8 - 1:47 AM

Paul Martin will be well enough to play on Saturday after missing a bit of time in the third period Thursday.

Martin has not been fantasy-relevant for a couple of seasons now but he is still a stalwart defensively and helps Martin Jones keep the puck out of the net. "I feel pretty good," Martin said. "Neck a little sore just from getting clipped, but for the most part it’s nothing serious or different from how I’d expect."
Feb 13 - 12:35 PM

Paul Martin's brief hot streak is firmly behind him now.

Martin went through a stretch from Nov. 13-21 where he recorded five points in as many games. Since then though he's been held off the scoresheet and has a minus-seven rating in four contests. He's not a great option in standard fantasy leagues.
Thu, Dec 3, 2015 11:26:00 AM

Paul Martin has three assists in 14 games this season.

Martin is one of those players that has significantly more value to his team than he does to most fantasy owners. He just doesn't do enough offensively to put him on people's radar if they're concerned about a standard league.
Mon, Nov 16, 2015 09:16:00 AM

Paul Martin (lower body) returned to action on Saturday.

The Sharks certainly did not shy away from using Martin as he was second on the team in ice time Saturday at 21:54, trailing only Brent Burns. Martin had an assist and was a plus-one in the 5-2 win over Carolina. His fantasy value is limited as he sees little power play time, only 1:21 in five games thus far, so he is really not a viable option in standard pools.

Paul Martin (lower body) might be back on Saturday.

Martin has missed three straight games due to the injury. He's been on the ice for two consecutive days and took part in Friday's practice though. "Two days of skating, and no real issues yet," Martin said. "I’m sure we’ll wait and see how it feels tomorrow after the first actual practice with the guys. My plan would be to play tomorrow." He has an assist in four games this season.
