Paul Martin posted a game-high eight blocked shots in Sunday's double overtime loss to Ottawa.
Martin broke his left hand blocking a shot in March, but that won't stop him from getting in front of chances for the opposition. "You don't think about getting hurt this time of year," Martin said. "You just play your game. You're in a zone. You know these games can come down to one little play. If you don't get a piece of the puck or you don't let [Tomas] Vokoun see it and you end up losing the game, you feel awful. You do everything you can to help the team win." Martin has been great for the Penguins this season and he's carried over that play into the playoffs, where he has nine points and a plus-8 rating in nine games. He is also currently third in the postseason with 26 blocks. May 22 - 12:16 PM

Date:

With an assist in Friday night's game, Paul Martin now has a four-game playoff points streak.

Martin has looked good thus far in the post-season. He is having a nice comeback campaign making him fantasy relevant again.
May 18 - 1:37 PM

Paul Martin registered two assists in his return from a hand injury.

Martin logged 23:31 minutes of ice time. It looks like he'll be fine for the postseason opener, which is obviously great news for the Penguins. He had six goals and 23 points in 34 games this season.
Apr 28 - 10:11 AM

Paul Martin (hand) will return to the Penguins' lineup on Saturday.

Martin previously seemed optimistic that he would be available for the season finale, so this news doesn't come as much of a surprise. He hasn't played in roughly a month, so this will be a chance for him to shake off some of the rust before the playoffs start.
Apr 26 - 1:40 PM

Paul Martin (hand) expects to return to the lineup Saturday.

Martin hasn't played since March 28, but he skated Thursday and seems very close to returning. "I think that's the plan," Martin said. "I was hoping for (Thursday). But now it looks like probably Saturday. No guarantee. It would depend. But I feel good enough. It would be good to get a game in (before the playoffs)."
Apr 26 - 10:27 AM

Paul Martin (hand) practiced with his teammates Thursday morning, but he won't return to the lineup against New Jersey.

He is hopeful that he will be able to return to the lineup in Saturday's regular-season finale against Carolina.
Apr 25 - 2:11 PM

Paul Martin (thumb) has been cleared to resume practices, according to coach Dan Bylsma.

He has missed the last 11 games with a broken thumb, but is believed to be close to returning to the lineup.
Apr 24 - 11:47 AM

Paul Martin (broken thumb) participated in an on-ice workout Saturday.

Coach Bylsma said Martin is the closest among injured Penguins to playing before the playoffs begin. Martin hasn't played since March 28 with a broken bone in his hand which is a shame since the veteran rearguard was enjoying his best season in many.
Apr 21 - 10:33 AM

Paul Martin (hand) skated on his own again Thursday morning.

Martin has been skating before practice for the past week but isn't expected to return until at least the postseason. Martin hasn't played since March 28 with a broken bone in his hand.
Apr 19 - 11:55 AM

Paul Martin (hand) was on the ice prior to Pittsburgh's practice on Monday.

"(Martin) has had motion with what he can wear on his hand," Penguins coach Dan Bylsma said. "It allows him to go on the ice and skate. I don't have a timeframe for when he can get back in a practice situation with the team. His skating will be at full speed as he progresses with the injury. It's just a matter of going through the time period and healing process." He's not expected to return before the end of the regular season.
Apr 15 - 1:25 PM

Paul Martin (broken bone in hand) has started skating on his own and could meet his target return date of May 1.

Dan Bylsma said Martin won't be stick-handling anytime soon but noted this is still clear progress in Martin's recovery. The Penguins are hopeful Martin will return in time for the first round of the playoffs.
Apr 12 - 11:19 AM

Paul Martin (broken bone in hand) might be available to return for the start of the playoffs.

He hasn't played since March 28 and his recovery time was pegged at four to six weeks. Coach Dan Bylsma didn't provide an update on the blueliner's status following Wednesday's loss to the New York Rangers.
Apr 4 - 11:41 AM

The Pittsburgh Penguins announced that defenseman Paul Martin underwent surgery on his hand (which is believed to specifically be a wrist issue).

The original window of at least six weeks has been adjusted to 4-6 weeks, at least according to the team. That's good news for Pittsburgh as it could mean he'd be ready for the playoffs, but the same difference for jilted fantasy owners who thought he'd benefit from Kris Letang's health issues.
Mar 31 - 3:15 PM

The Penguins have placed Paul Martin on injured reserve due to a broken bone in his wrist.

He will require surgery and will be out of action a minimum of six weeks. This is a huge blow to the Pens and those who have Martin on their fantasy rosters as the veteran rearguard was enjoying his best season in many. With Kris Letang out with a broken toe, the Penguins may be looking to acquire another offensive defenseman. Perhaps Ryan Whitney would fit the bill.
Mar 30 - 12:41 PM

Paul Martin (upper body) missed Friday's practice.

"(He) has an upper-body injury that's being evaluated further," Penguins coach Dan Bylsma said. "I don't have a lot of information for you." Consider Martin questionable for Friday's contest.
