Ryan Malone saw action on the second line Thursday.
Malone played on the fourth line when he made his Rangers debut on Tuesday but coach Alain Vigneault switched up his lines during Thursday's contest and Malone found himself on the wing with Derick Brassard and Mats Zuccarello, while usual linemate Lee Stempniak was moved to a line with Kevin Hayes and Carl Hagelin. Malone could get a boost in fantasy value if he remains on Brassard's wing but take a wait-and-see approach at this time. Oct 18 - 7:20 AM

Ryan Malone made his Rangers debut Tuesday night.

He had two shots in 11:39 of ice time in 6-3 loss to the Islanders. Judging from Wednesday's practice, it looks like Malone will remain the lineup for Thursday's contest against Carolina. Jesper Fast and J.T. Miller were extras during the session.

Ryan Malone is currently having trouble breaking into the New York Rangers lineup.

The veteran inked a two-way contract but does not want to play in the AHL and would rather be a healthy scratch. "I had a good conversation with Ryan," coach Alain Vigneault said. "I liked his training camp but I’m not sure where he fits in with the team picture right now. We all know a lot of stuff happens in a season. At this time, that’s where he’s situated and we’ll see how it unfolds." He obviously does not deserve to be on your fantasy roster.

Ryan Malone had a tough time of it on Friday.

Malone played his worst game of the pre-season despite getting the tying goal and scoring the shootout winner as the Rangers won 3-2. "There were areas where I can get better," Malone said. "I had a turnover at the blue (line) in the first period. It should have been a simple play. I could have finished maybe a few more hits. Our line was down in the O-zone a lot. We maybe had to drive to the dirty areas a little bit more." Malone is on a two-way contract and could still be sent to the minors to start the season. It's not a good idea to draft him in pools this week.
Oct 4 - 8:30 AM

Ryan Malone scored the tying goal and shootout winner in the Rangers’ 3-2 victory over the Chicago Blackhawks on Friday.

Malone was the hero tonight, as he scored with under five minutes remaining and the Rangers trailing by a goal. He also scored in the ninth round of the shootout to seal the win for his team. The 34-year-old hasn’t been productive since 2011-12 and that probably won’t change this season. Malone is signed to a two-way contract and isn’t guaranteed a roster spot with the Rangers. Martin St. Louis also scored for New York.

Ryan Malone (hip flexor) joined his teammates for Wednesday's practice.

His goal now is to get some preseason playing time before the start of the regular season. "Obviously, I want to play in the games," Malone said. "I want to be out there as much as possible so the coaches can have eyes on me. (The hip flexor) was nothing really serious, just from skating so much."

Ryan Malone (hip flexor) wasn't on the ice Sunday.

Malone is also expected to miss Monday's exhibition contest. He inked a one-year, two-way deal with the Rangers on Sept. 11.

Ryan Malone is dealing with a hip flexor problem.

Malone wasn't on the ice Friday as a result. He's considered day-to-day.
Sep 26 - 12:34 PM

Ryan Malone scored a goal for the Rangers in Monday's 5-4 loss to New Jersey in preseason action.

The game was the first opportunity for Malone to wear a Rangers sweater in competition after he spent the last six campaigns with the Lightning. Carl Hagelin, Jesper Fast and Chris Kreider also found the back of the net in the losing effort. Henrik Lundqvist and Cam Talbot combined to give up five goals on 32 shots between the pipes in a forgettable outing.

Ryan Malone has signed a one-year, two-way contract with the New York Rangers worth $700,000 if he plays in the NHL.

He'll make $100,000 if he skates in the AHL, but he's eager to prove himself in 2014-15 to make sure that doesn't happen. "Obviously last year was not the way I wanted it to go, especially at the end," said Malone, who was bought out by the Tampa Bay Lightning. "So I'm looking for an opportunity to show what type of person I am on and off the ice." He won't be a top-six forward on the Rangers if he sticks with the big club and his fantasy value will probably be minimal at best.
Sep 11 - 3:00 PM

Ryan Malone admitted he made a "mistake" that led to him being arrested on April 12 for driving under the influence and cocaine possession.

Malone is looking to turn his career around after the Tampa Bay Lightning bought him out. He's joined the Rangers for an informal skate and is interested in playing for the club in 2014-15.
Sep 9 - 9:58 AM

Ryan Malone will join the Rangers for informal skates at the club's practice facility this week.

New York will start formal contract negotiations with Malone's agent, Mike Liut, "early this week." Malone has been invited to join the Rangers’ pre-camp skates with Ryan McDonagh, Derek Stepan, Marty St. Louis and Dominic Moore. He is currently a free agent after he was bought out by Tampa Bay. He was arrested in June for DUI and possession of cocaine. Desperately in need of a second chance, the Post estimates Malone's contract might be a two-way deal in the neighborhood of $675,000-$750,000 per year.

The Pittsburgh Penguins could be interested in having unrestricted free agent Ryan Malone return to the fold.

Malone played last season for the Tampa Bay Lightning but was bought out of his contract in June after he was arrested on April 12 on cocaine and DUI charges. He pleaded no contest to the DUI charges and had the cocaine charge dismissed. Malone has had a couple of horrible seasons with Tampa Bay but started his career in Pittsburgh where he scored 20-plus goals in three of his four seasons there. His future is in doubt but Pittsburgh could give him a chance to make their squad this season.
Sep 6 - 8:09 AM

Ryan Malone participated in an informal skate last week in Minnesota.

He's an unrestricted free agent after he was bought out by the Tampa Bay Lightning. The New York Rangers have reportedly spoken with him. Now that Malone's legal issues are behind him, it's likely that he'll sign with another NHL club or attend training camp on a tryout.
Aug 27 - 1:40 PM

Ryan Malone pleaded no contest to DUI charges and agreed to a pretrial diversion program on a drug charge.

That will dismiss his felony charge of cocaine possession if he can successfully complete the program's requirements. His driver's license will be suspended for six months and he must complete 50 hours of community service, as part of DUI punishment. Several teams have reportedly expressed interest in the veteran winger and with his case finished, perhaps he can focus on getting his career back on track.
