There's been some speculation in Tampa that the Lightning may buy out the remainder of Ryan Malone's contract.
He has two years left on his current deal at a $4.5 million cap hit. However, GM Steve Yzerman wasn't willing to discuss his thought process just yet. "We'll spend the next month figuring out our plan," Yzerman said. "I'm not really concerned with where we are with the cap. It's not going to be an issue for us as far as what we want to do." Ryan Malone has recovered from the flu and will be back in the Tampa lineup against the Panthers Saturday night.

If you need Malone, feel free to activate him.
Apr 27 - 1:21 PM

Coach Jon Cooper said Ryan Malone won't play Thursday because the Tampa winger is battling flu-like symptoms.

"I think he's even worse today; his fever is even higher," Cooper said. Malone was scratched Wednesday night partly due to some poor play and because his shoulder injury isn't believed to be completely healed.
Apr 25 - 5:50 PM

Ryan Malone will be listed as a healthy scratch Wednesday night against Toronto.

"I haven't played very well, Malone said. "That could be a good reason, too." There is some question as to whether or not he is fully recovered from his shoulder injury as well and coach Jon Cooper admitted that Malone probably came back too soon from the ailment.
Apr 24 - 3:49 PM

Ryan Malone made a bit of surprise return to Tampa's lineup Tuesday night.

A shoulder injury had kept him on the shelf since March 18 and he was only doing light skating without pads last week. "The process just seemed to pick up every day," Malone said. "There has been improvements, and it's all you can ask for. ... It's time to come back." He was activated from injured reserve and logged 15:43 of ice time against Ottawa. Malone had one shot, two penalty minutes and one hit in the contest.
Apr 10 - 11:50 AM

Ryan Malone (shoulder) will be a game-time decision Tuesday night against the Ottawa Senators.

Malone says he's ready to play but coach Jon Cooper wants to be careful with his return. While the Lightning are calling him a game-time decision, we should know whether he'll play tonight based on whether he's activated from injured reserve this afternoon. We'll update you as soon as we know either way.
Apr 9 - 12:09 PM

Ryan Malone (shoulder) continues to rehab his injured shoulder but does not have a timetable for a return to action at present.

He remains out indefinitely so keep him tucked away on reserve.
Mar 30 - 1:55 PM

Ryan Malone (shoulder) has been moved to Tampa's injured reserve list.

He is out indefinitely with a left shoulder injury that he sustained Monday night against Philadelphia. Pierre-Cedric Labrie will take his spot in the lineup Wednesday night.
Mar 20 - 2:57 PM

The Tampa Bay Lightning announced Tuesday that Ryan Malone will be sidelined indefinitely with a shoulder injury.

Malone left Monday's game against the Flyers after a hit from Philadelphia forward Zac Rinaldo in the third period. Malone also missed a large chunk of games earlier in the season with a lower-body issue and with only a month left on the schedule it's fair to wonder if he'll return in time to make an impact on the fantasy season. At this point, it might be time for owners to move away from the rugged winger.
Mar 19 - 5:15 PM

Ryan Malone exited Monday's game with an upper-body injury.

He left following a hit from Philadelphia's Zac Rinaldo in the third period. Malone has missed 13 games already this campaign because of a lower-body issue.
Mar 19 - 8:42 AM

Ryan Malone potted a power play goal in Saturday's loss to the Montreal Canadiens.

With seven points in 12 games in this 48-game shortened season, the rugged winger is worth a look in 12-team leagues, especially if your league rewards power play points. He's currently playing on the Lightning's first unit.
Mar 10 - 12:02 PM

Ryan Malone (lower body) has been activated off of the injured reserve list.

Malone will play on Thursday for the first time in a month. He has four goals and five points in 10 games this season.
Mar 7 - 12:21 PM

Ryan Malone (lower body) could return to the lineup no later than Saturday against the Montreal Canadiens.

Malone has been skating with the Lightning and coach Guy Boucher seems optimistic about his return timetable. "He's getting closer and closer," Boucher said. "He (had) a very tough practice (Tuesday) morning and we are waiting to hear from it." We'll update you as soon as hear more.
Mar 5 - 5:11 PM

Ryan Malone (lower body) won't play Thursday.

He skated Wednesday morning but won't accompany the team to New York for the start of their four-game road trip Thursday night versus the Rangers. However, he hopes to join them at some point.
Feb 27 - 3:10 PM

Ryan Malone (lower body) joined practice Tuesday but was wearing an orange no-contact jersey.

Malone had been skating on his own, so this is definite progress. Although he's not yet cleared for contact, Malone said there's not much else he can't do. Coach Guy Boucher said Malone will spend the next few days continuing his rehab before participating in a full-contact practice. He has been sidelined since Feb. 7 and appears on track to meet his original timetable of three to four weeks.
