Martin Gerber saved 34 of 35 shots in regulation in a 2-1 shootout victory Tuesday night.

Gerber looked good in his NHL stint in Novmeber, posting a 1.50 GAA and .950 save percentage in two contests and he's looking just as good this time around. That being said, he'll almost certainly be returned to the minors once Nikolai Khabibulin recovers from an eye injury.

Martin Gerber has been frustrated by his lack of opportunities this season with the Oilers organization.

Gerber is a 36-year-old netminder who played in Russia last season. He signed a one-year deal with the Oilers this past off-season and has mainly played in the minors for Oklahoma City where he was 19-12-3 with a 2.49 GAA and a .917 save percentage to go with four shutouts. He has been splitting time with Jeff Drouin-Deslauriers since the start of November. "It's not what either guy is looking for, but that's the way it is," Gerber said. "You stick to it and see what happens. I do want to see how the season ends. Right now, it hasn't gone the way I wanted it to, but I do think I have to finish the season before I look at the big picture. I still think it was a good decision to try and come back. It just didn't work the way I was hoping." We don't know what he was expecting since he is 36.

Martin Gerber has been called up by the Edmonton Oilers.

Gerber has a 2.49 GAA and .917 save percentage in 34 games with AHL Oklahoma City this season. He's projected to serve as Devan Dubnyk's backup while Nikolai Khabibulin recovers from an eye infection.

Martin Gerber has been returned to the minors by Edmonton.

Gerber was brought up from the AHL in Oklahoma City on emergency recall when Nikolai Khabibulin went down with a groin injury, but with the Russian netminder coming off injured reserve Gerber was sent back down. He was solid for the Oilers in two appearances, stopping 57 of 60 shots in a pair of victories, but his time with the club is over for now.

Martin Gerber was sharp, stopping 22 of 23 shots to lead the Edmonton Oilers over the Ottawa Senators 4-1 Monday night.

Gerber has won his first two starts in an Edmonton Oilers uniform. He also has a 1.50 goals against average and a .950 save percentage. Edmonton is next in action Wednesday in Montreal.

Martin Gerber turned aside 35 of 37 Colorado shots in the Oilers' 3-2 win Thursday night.

The 2010 Swiss Olympian was making his first NHL start since April of 2009, and did a solid job for the Oilers turning aside 35 of 37 shots he faced. Edmonton boasts one of the younger rosters in the NHL, and it has shown on the ice with a team that has made a lot of mistakes early this season. But with Gerber holding down the fort while the team was outshot 28-11, Edmonton was able to persevere and get the two points.

Martin Gerber will be between the pipes on Thursday when the Edmonton Oilers take on the Colorado Avalanche.

It will be Gerber's first NHL start since April 11, 2009 when he stopped 37 of 39 shots in leading Toronto to a 5-2 win over Ottawa. He will face Peter Budaj in goal for Colorado in the only NHL game on the schedule. Gerber played with Atlant Mytischi of the KHL last season as he could not find employment in the NHL. We do not recommend him at this time.

Martin Gerber hopes to get a chance to play in the NHL during his current callup.

The 36-year-old netminder was recalled with the injury to netminder Nikolai Khabibulin, but Devan Dubnyk is expected to get most, if not all of the action in Khabibulin's absence. "I'm still in good shape, I feel great, I want to play as long as possible," Gerber said. "As long as you're in the dressing room you always have hope, that's the last thing you lose. You have to give it a shot and you never know what's going to happen. Try your best and maybe somebody likes it. If not, life goes on." Gerber is not worth taking in fantasy pools as the Oilers are currently a bad team and he shouldn't get many opportunities to play in any event.

Martin Gerber has cleared waivers and will be reassigned to AHL Oklahoma City.

The Minnesota Wild are believed to be in the market for a backup goaltender now that Josh Harding is out with a torn ACL. However, they passed on Gerber despite the fact that he'd come with a mere $500,000 cap hit. Gerber is currently fourth on the Oilers depth charts behind Nikolai Khabibulin, Jeff Drouin-Deslauriers, and Devan Dubnyk.

The Edmonton Oilers have placed Martin Gerber on waivers.

Teams have until noon ET on Friday to put a claim in on Gerber, but that is doubtful. Expect the Oilers to send Gerber to the minors when he clears waivers.

Martin Gerber stopped 18 of 19 shots in regulation play and both shots in the shootout to lead the Oilers to a 4-3 win over Phoenix Wednesday night.

Gerber split the net with Jeff Drouin-Deslauriers, playing the second half of the game as Deslauriers stopped 15 of 17 shots. Sam Gagner, Alexandre Giroux and Colin McDonald scored in regulation for Edmonton while Dustin Penner and Ales Hemsky found the back of the net in the shootout. Gerber will start the season in the minors as Nikolai Khabibulin, Deslauriers and Devan Dubnyk are ahead of him on the depth chart.

The Edmonton Oilers have signed Martin Gerber to a one-year deal.

Gerber had a 2.19 GAA and .914 save percentage in 30 games with the KHL's Altant Moscow last season. Assuming Nikolai Khabibulin is healthy, Martin Gerber and Jeff Drouin-Deslauriers will probably fight for the backup job during training camp.

Martin Gerber has inked a one-year deal with Atlant Mytischi of the KHL.

Gerber was placed on waivers by the Senators last season before concluding the year with the Toronto Maple Leafs. He posted a 10-14-1 record with a .902 save percentage and a 3.03 save percentage between Ottawa and Toronto. Gerber will look to get his career back on track overseas.
