Antti Miettinen scored the game-winning goal for Winnipeg Monday night.
He also finished the Jets' 2-1 victory with a plus-2 rating despite getting just 9:54 of ice time. Miettinen was playing in his first game since April 4 after he had been relegated to the press box. He finished the game alongside James Wright and Evander Kane when Kyle Wellwood got injured. Tue, Apr 23, 2013 06:46:00 AM

Antti Miettinen registered his first goal of the lockout-shortened season in Thursday's 3-1 win over the New York Rangers.

He was in the right place at the right time when a Dustin Byfuglien point shot deflected off his body and into the net during the second period. Miettinen's first goal in seven games this campaign held up as the game winner.

It looks like Antti Miettinen is ready to play again after logging just 17 seconds of ice time in his opening game of the season on Feb. 24.

He is set to join a line alongside Olli Jokinen and James Wright with Anthony Peluso sidelined with a hand injury. Jokinen and Miettinen are familiar with each other from the Olympics, but neither of them is fantasy relevant right now.

So much for getting Antti Miettinen back; he was injured in his first shift of the 2013 season during the Winnipeg Jets Sunday game versus the New Jersey Devils.

Miettinen suffered a lower-body injury. It's not like this situation hurts a lot of fantasy owners, but it has to be frustrating for him.

The Winnipeg Jets reportedly activated Antti Miettinen from the injured reserve on Sunday.

Miettinen doesn't have much fantasy value, with just 13 points in 45 games with the Jets in 2011-12. He hasn't played a game yet in 2013 because of an upper-body injury. It's possible he'll take Kyle Wellwood's spot in the lineup.

Antti Miettinen has an upper-body injury and will be sidelined indefinitely.

There wasn't much more of an update given so we'll just have to wait something more definitive. We thought Miettinen could be primed for a bounce-back season in 2013, but this obviously throws a monkey wrench into those plans. We'll let you know as soon as we know more.

Antti Miettinen scored a goal in Hameenlinna's 3-1 loss to Tappara.

That gives Miettinen two goals in four SM-liiga games. With the lockout dragging on, Miettinen decided to return to his roots. He was a star with HPK Hameenlinna before leaving for North America and making his NHL debut with the Dallas Stars in 2003-04.

Antti Miettinen won't mind if his trip to play back home in Hameenlina, Finland is a short one.

"I wouldn't say I'm worried about it," he said. "Hopefully things get sorted out quick and that'll be just like a short training camp, but we'll see." Miettinen will play for HPK in the SM-liiga for the time being, where he skated in the summer and where he played four seasons prior to making his NHL debut.

Antti Miettinen has signed on with his hometown team HPK Hameenlinna in the SM-liiga.

The 32-year-old played his first four professional seasons with HPK before heading across the pond to try his hand in the NHL. He has played seven of the last eight seasons in the NHL with the only break in the 2010-11 season as he played one year with Kazan Ak-Bars of the KHL. Miettinen played in only 45 games last season as he did not sign and play until December 20 and managed only five goals and 13 points as he went 34 consecutive games without finding the back of the net. Look for an improvement in scoring from Miettinen when the NHL season resumes, but not enough to be worth a selection in fantasy pools.

Jets GM Kevin Cheveldayoff is hopeful that Antti Miettinen will make more of an impact offensively in 2012-13.

"Hopefully Antti Miettinen having a full training camp, a North American start, will help him," he said. "I think he did better after the trade deadline. It was a difficult transition to go through some of the things he went through (switching leagues, continents), but that's part of being a pro." Miettinen started the 2011-12 season in the KHL with Kazan Ak-Bars before signing a two-year deal with the Tampa Bay Lightning. He was claimed off waivers by the Jets shortly afterward though. Miettinen skated in 45 games with Winnipeg, while contributing five goals and eight assists.

Antti Miettinen potted another two-goal game on Monday to give him four markers in his past five games.

He went 34 games without scoring a goal before notching two against Carolina on Mar. 18. Miettinen presently has 10 points in 39 contests since joining the Jets off waivers from Europe, so he shouldn't be on your fantasy radar.

Antti Miettinen scored a pair of goals for Winnipeg, but the team dropped a 4-3 decision to the Hurricanes Sunday night.

It took him 35 games, but Miettinen finally found the back of the net for the Jets and discovered he liked it so much that he did again eight minutes later. Nik Antropov was the other Winnipeg scorer in the losing effort.

Antti Miettinen is still looking for his first goal this season.

He has contributed four assists in 29 games with Winnipeg since being claimed off waivers from Tampa Bay back in December. "I haven't really found my spot," Miettinen said. "There's a combination of a whole lot of things, coming in, in the middle of the mix. It's a good group of guys. Everybody's really enthusiastic here, from the management to the last player. It's an easy place to come in. At the end of the day... there's no one else to blame but yourself, I guess. I just haven't been good enough."

Antti Miettinen has successfully cleared waivers.

It hasn't been announced yet if Miettinen will be sent to the minors. Miettinen was signed during the regular season from Europe, so he had to clear waivers before he was eligible to be traded. Of course, every NHL team just passed on the opportunity to get him for nothing but his salary and cap hit, so we doubt the market for Miettinen is particularly good.
Sat, Feb 25, 2012 01:03:00 PM

Antti Miettinen has been placed on waivers by the Winnipeg Jets.

It's worth noting that because the Miettinen signed after playing in Europe, he can't be traded unless he first clears waivers. That doesn't mean that Winnipeg wants to trade him, but they are keeping their options open with this move. Of course, if Miettinen clears waivers, then that obviously means that there isn't much of a market for him.
