Paul Gaustad, who has missed two of the Predators' last three games with a lower-body injury, is questionable for Saturday's game against San Jose.

He has really only played a few shifts in over a week. We would keep Gaustad on reserve for now.

It appears to be the same injury that kept him out of action the last two games. He was credited with just 48 seconds of ice time.

Gaustad missed games against St. Louis and Chicago. The 32-year-old has one goal and six points in 24 games with the Predators this season. He is considered day-to-day at this point.

Paul Gaustad had two assists and 10 penalty minutes on Tuesday night.

The big center engaged in fisticuffs with Toronto's Dion Phanuef and David Clarkson during Nashville's 9-2 victory. He fought Phaneuf in the second period and Clarkson in the third to give him 17 penalty minutes on the season. Gaustad didn't have a point in 15 straight games going into Tuesday's match.

Paul Gaustad and Eric Nystrom have developed some nice chemistry early on this season.

The two combined for five points and a plus-six in the Predators’ win over Dallas on Saturday. When asked why he’s had such a strong start to the season, Gaustad responded: "Eric Nystrom. It's just trying to stay simple and shoot the puck as much as possible for our line." The two veterans won’t keep producing at their current pace, but it’s nice to see hard-working players being rewarded on the ice.

Nashville GM David Poile still thinks highly of Paul Gaustad.

"Paul does what he does. He's a checking center, best in the league at faceoffs and penalty killing," said Poile. "To me this is the good and bad news. Paul Gaustad is way more effective when our team has a lead, way more effective on our team as a shutdown guy. Give us the leads in the third period and the leads out of the gate and I think his role is better." Gaustad still has two years left on his current deal, which carries a $3.25 million cap hit. He contributed 10 goals and 11 assists in 75 games last season.

Paul Gaustad collected three points in the Nashville Predators' 7-5 victory over the visiting Chicago Blackhawks Saturday night.

Gaustad had a goal and two assists. With one game left in the Preds' regular season, the often-injured center has 10 goals and 10 assists. Mike Fisher also had a three-point night for the Preds, all assists, giving him 29 on the season. Nashville's other goal scorers Saturday were Craig Smith (22nd), Ryan Ellis (fifth), Matt Cullen (10th), Colin Wilson (11th), Patric Hornqvist (22nd) and Shea Weber (22nd). Weber's goal was produced on a wrist shot into an empty net with 14 seconds remaining in regulation.
