Ryan Whitney has signed with MODO to play in the Swedish Hockey League.

He suited up for Sochi in the KHL in 2014-15, where he picked up 19 points in 42 games.

HNIC’s Elliotte Friedman says the "belief" is that the Flyers have offered Ryan Whitney a two-way contract.

The 31-year-old is currently playing in the KHL with HC Sochi, and he has an "out clause" in his contract to return to North America at any point. He will play his first game there Sunday, and Friedman says he plans to stay for now. Clearly, the Flyers are desperate for help on the back end.

The Philadelphia Flyers, in dire need of help on the blueline, could be interested in the services of Ryan Whitney.

After Whitney was released from his professional tryout with the St. Louis Blues after training camp, Whitney was not on anyone's radar so he signed a deal with HC Sochi of the KHL. The fortunate part is that Whitney has an out clause with Sochi and he has yet to play a game with the club. If he does play at least one game, he will have to go through waivers if he re-signs with an NHL squad this season, so the time frame to sign him is narrowing quickly. The Flyers lost two defensemen this week as Braydon Coburn and Andrew MacDonald are both expected to miss four weeks with injuries.

Ryan Whitney has signed a contract with HC Sochi of the KHL.

He appeared in seven games with the Florida Panthers last season, but he spent most of the year with and the Cats' AHL affiliate in San Antonio. Whitney attended St. Lous' training camp as a tryout and he was released in early October.

The St. Louis Blues have terminated Ryan Whitney's tryout contract.

Whitney used to be one of the league's top offensive defensemen, but his days of being relevant in fantasy leagues are likely behind him. We don't expect another team to offer him a one-way deal.

Ryan Whitney will participate in the St. Louis Blues' training camp on a tryout basis.

Whitney had 23 points and 52 penalty minutes in 45 AHL games last season. He also participated in seven contests with the Florida Panthers, but didn't record a point. At his height, Whitney was one of the league's top offensive defenseman, but we don't think he'll have any fantasy value in 2014-15.

The Florida Panthers have sent Ryan Whitney to the minors.

Whitney has no points in seven games with Florida this season. There was a time when he was one of the better offensive defenseman in the NHL, but we think his days of being relevant in standard fantasy leagues are over.

The Florida Panthers recalled defenseman Ryan Whitney from the AHL's San Antonio Rampage for Sunday's game against the Anaheim Ducks.

He's been largely ineffective in the NHL so far, going without a point in six NHL games this year (also a -7 rating). This might be his last chance to prove he can belong with the league, although it may be too late. Ed Jovanovski could be out of the lineup.

Ryan Whitney has been loaned to AHL San Antonio.

He cleared waivers on Saturday and hasn't played much for the Panthers this year.

Ryan Whitney was recalled by Florida on Sunday.

He cleared waivers on Saturday and has appeared in six games with the Panthers this campaign.

Ryan Whitney has been placed on waivers by the Florida Panthers.

The Florida Panthers fired head coach Kevin Dineen Friday morning and waiving Whitney is probably the first of many player moves the struggling team engages in. Whitney had no points in six games with the Panthers. We wouldn't be shocked if he got claimed, but we certainly wouldn't bet on it either.

Ryan Whitney dressed Tuesday against his former Edmonton teammates.

He has played in just six games with the Panthers this season and has sat often as a healthy scratch. "Whit came out of St. Louis and didn't find himself in the lineup here for two or three weeks," coach Kevin Dineen said. "He worked his way back into it last game and I thought he gave us a pretty solid effort. He's a valuable option." He has no points and a minus-7 rating this year.

Much like Friday, the Florida Panthers decided to make Ryan Whitney a healthy scratch against the Los Angeles Kings.

The Kings are familiar with Whitney from his days with the Anaheim Ducks. His -5 rating shouldn't be that surprising, but failing to score a single point in four games is a little surprising. He's generated four PIM and eight SOG for Florida.

Ryan Whitney was a healthy scratch Friday night.

He did not play in the Panthers' 6-3 rout of the Penguins Friday night. Matt Gilroy took his place in the lineup. Given how well the Cats played, don't be surprised if the Whintey sits out Sunday's game against the Kings as well.
