According to the Vernon Morning Star, Eric Godard is set to retire.
The former NHL enforcer played in 335 games, scoring six goals, registering 18 points and amassing 833 penalty minutes. He skated for Texas of the AHL last season and would not have been able to find an NHL job had he not decided to hang up his skates. We wish him well. Sat, Nov 3, 2012 11:16:00 AM

The Dallas Stars will buy out the final year of Eric Godard's contract.

Godard signed a two-year deal 12 months ago with the 2011-12 season being a two-way contract and a one-way deal for the upcoming season. Godard did not play a game in the NHL last season as he earned $105,000 in the AHL where he scored once with 58 penalty minutes in 46 games for the Texas Stars. With Godard slated to earn $700,000 this season regardless of where he played, the Stars are in the midst of buying out the truculent winger.

Eric Godard has inked a two-year contract with the Dallas Stars.

Godard will make $750,000 if he plays in the NHL next season and $105,000 at the AHL level. In 2011-12, his agreement becomes one-way, which means that he will earn $700,000 regardless of which league he plays in. He had three points and an insane 105 penalty minutes in just 19 games with the Pittsburgh Penguins last season.

Eric Godard is eligible to return to action this coming Tuesday after serving his 10-game suspension for leaving the bench in a February 11th contest against the Islanders.

Just an FYI for those of you needing Godard's PIMs.

As expected, Eric Godard received a 10-game suspension for leaving the bench during an altercation in Friday's game against the Islanders.

The 10-game ban is the automatic punishment assessed by the NHL for this type of infraction and Godard claims he knew what he was getting into before jumping on the ice. "I'm aware of the rules and stuff like that, but at that moment, you're not thinking about what the [repercussions] are." Godard said. Godard is usually a great source of PIM in fantasy leagues, but it might be difficult to keep him on your roster while he sits for the next three weeks.

Eric Godard will likely be suspended for 10 games for leaving the bench to engage in a fight Friday night against the Islanders.

He jumped on the ice to intervene in a fight between Micheal Haley and goalie Brent Johnson. The NHL rules clearly state a 10-game suspension must be levied against a player who leaves the bench with the intention of starting an altercation. Stay tuned for updates.

Eric Godard was activated from the IL on Tuesday February 1 after recovering from facial injuries he sustained in a fight with Ottawa's Matt Carkner back on Dec. 26.

He logged 7:07 of ice time against the Rangers in his return, while posting one shot and no penalty minutes. Godard has one assist and 48 PIMs in 14 games with the Penguins this season.

Eric Godard has been cleared to return to full contact practice.

He will join his Penguin teammates on Monday. Godard has missed the Pens' last 11 games recovering from a broken orbital bone sustained in a fight with the Senators' Matt Carkner that ironically took place on Boxing Day in Canada. As he will be wearing a face shield, we don't suspect Godard will be engaging in fisticuffs any time soon. As a result, he has no fantasy value.

Eric Godard (eye) did some skating with conditioning coach Mike Kadar prior to practice on Thursday.

He is eligible to come off injured reserve, but according to coach Dan Bylsma the Pittsburgh tough guy is still a ways away from returning to the lineup. "He still has to do light workouts for some time before he gets into exertion," said the Penguins' coach.

Eric Godard (eye) has resumed off-ice workouts, but he hasn't gone on the ice yet.

The Pittsburgh tough guy was thought to be suffering from a broken orbital bone, according to the team's website, but coach Dan Bylsma said that Godard is out with an eye injury. He has not played since suffering the injury a Dec. 26 fight with Ottawa's Matt Carkner.

Eric Godard (facial injuries) was placed on injured reserve Monday by the Penguins.

Pittsburgh needed to open up a spot on their roster to recall forward Dustin Jeffrey from the minors, so the move was made. Godard has appeared in 13 games this season while accumulating 48 penalty minutes.

Eric Godard may have to go on injured reserve due to the broken nose he sustained in a fight with Ottawa's Matt Carkner Saturday.

Even if Godard can avoid being removed from the roster, he won't be fighting with a broken beak anytime soon. As a result, he has no fantasy value.
