Nashville wants to part ways with him and while that might involve a buyout, a trade is still a possibility. "It has to happen pretty soon," Predators GM David Poile said. "The buyout period starts 48 hours after the Stanley Cup playoffs, and I want to be in position to know whether we can trade him or whether we'd keep him or whether we'd buy him out." The Stanley Cup Final would end on Thursday if Pittsburgh wins Game 5.

He has one year remaining on his contract and he is owned $3 million. Nystrom's $2.5 million cap hit would save Nashville $2 million, according to generalfanager.com, and it would allow the team to fill his roster spot with younger talent within the organization.
