He earned an assist on Derek MacKenzie's third goal of the season in a 2-1 shootout win over Washington. Upshall missed nine games with a sprained ankle.

"After being out a couple weeks it's nice to be back in the mix. I'm feeling good," Upshall said. "I think everyone is happy with my progression. I just need a couple of skates to get the wind under me again and get the legs going." Coach Gerard Gallant said it was unlikely that Upshall would play Friday, but he appears to be nearing a return to the lineup. He hasn't played since Nov. 24.

He didn't travel with the team to start the road trip. Coach Gerard Gallant said that Upshall will meet up with the Panthers in Detroit. He skated before practice on Sunday.

Scottie Upshall was seen wearing a walking boot on Tuesday after apparently injuring an ankle.

He was hurt during his return to the lineup on Monday. "He felt OK after the game but [Tuesday] morning was pretty sore," coach Gerard Gallant said. It isn't clear if Upshall will be available for Wednesday's match against Carolina at this time.

Scottie Upshall is looking to improve on the success he had with the Florida Panthers last season.

Upshall scored 15 goals and a career-high 37 points last season. "It was good to just have healthy year and be accountable," said Upshall. "Last year didn’t go so well for most of us. We know we all got to be better, and in a way I took a jump in the right direction, learning leadership and helping out the younger players." Upshall should have a top-six role with the Panthers again this season. If he stays healthy, he can hit the 35-point mark.
