Mar 20 - 9:05 AM

Scottie Upshall is happy the Florida Panthers decided against moving him.

The Panthers were in a difficult position going into the trade deadline because they still have a real shot at making the playoffs, but are only just exiting their rebuilding phase. It had to be tempting to trade Upshall rather than risk losing him for nothing in the summer as an unrestricted free agent. That being said, the potential return for the Panthers likely wasn't that much. He has seven goals and 14 points in 46 contests and has spent some time in the press box in 2014-15.

Feb 22 - 8:48 PM

Scottie Upshall is probably playing in his last year with the Florida Panthers.

He can become an unrestricted free agent in the summer and has been a healthy scratch often this season. "It's part of the game that sucks to be completely honest," said Upshall, who has been scratched three times in the past eight games. "It's never easy dealing with being a scratch, not being able to perform and do your thing. We realize if we reach the common goal [playoffs] then we're all going to benefit from it, not only as a team but personally." He has recorded just five goals and 11 points in 37 games this year. When he is in the lineup now, Upshall skates on the fourth line. He could be moved before the trade deadline.

Scottie Upshall will be a healthy scratch Monday night against the Canucks.

Upshall has just a goal and an assist in his last 11 games so this benching shouldn't be too surprising to Panther fans. On the season he has five goals and six assists in 32 games played. He and veteran Sean Bergenheim will give way to rookie Vincent Trocheck and Brandon Pirri Monday.
