Jordin Tootoo (foot) has been placed on the injured reserve list.
Tootoo's foot wasn't broken when he blocked a shot during Tuesday's game, but it is badly bruised. He was already expected to miss Friday and Saturday's contests, so his move to the injured reserve list makes sense. Oct 24 - 11:49 AM

Date:

Jordin Tootoo (foot) won't play in New Jersey's next two games.

That means he'll miss the Devils' upcoming back-to-back set against Dallas and Ottawa on Friday and Saturday, respectively. The results of Tootoo's X-rays and tests haven't been announced, so an exact timetable for his return isn't known yet.

The New Jersey Devils are likely to provide an update on Jordin Tootoo's condition Thursday.

Tootoo missed Wednesday's practice so that he could have his foot X-rayed. He blocked a shot during Tuesday's game, but was able to stay in the contest.
Oct 23 - 9:01 AM

Jordin Tootoo might have suffered a foot injury when he blocked a shot Tuesday.

Tootoo missed the Devils' practice so that he could have the area X-rayed. It's worth noting that he continued to play in the game after blocking the shot in the second period, although his ice time was limited in the third frame.
Oct 22 - 1:09 PM

Jordin Tootoo is looking to play a more disciplined game after taking three minor penalties in two contests.

"Personally, I've got to be better," Tootoo said. "That's what wins and loses hockey games. Especially with my style, I've just got to play north and south between the whistles and don't worry about the officiating." Tootoo has been playing with Stephen Gionta and Tuomo Ruutu on the fourth line. That line has some offensive upside despite it's placement in the depth charts.
Oct 14 - 10:25 AM

Jordin Tootoo skated on the Devils' fourth line on Wednesday.

Tootoo recently signed a one-year, $550,000 contract with New Jersey. Tuomo Ruutu and Stephen Gionta practiced alongside Tootoo on the fourth line.
Oct 8 - 4:29 PM

Jordin Tootoo's newly signed contract with New Jersey is worth $550,000 for the 2014-15 campaign.

Tootoo got a one-way deal, so he'll make that amount even if he gets sent to the minors. He'll start the campaign as a bottom-six forward and there's a good chance that he'll maintain that role despite his struggles with Detroit.
Oct 7 - 6:43 PM

Jordin Tootoo has agreed to terms with the New Jersey Devils.

Tootoo joined the Devils on a tryout basis after the Detroit Red Wings bought him out over the summer. Although Tootoo's fantasy value is limited, he is a solid bottom-six forward.
Oct 7 - 4:14 PM

The New Jersey Devils are interested in signing Jordin Tootoo.

Tootoo participated in New Jersey's training camp on a tryout basis. He is a gritty bottom-six forward that is capable of chipping in a bit offensively. He didn't mesh well with his last team, the Detroit Red Wings, but at the age of 31, he's certainly capable of moving past that.
Oct 7 - 10:52 AM

Jordin Tootoo took an illegal check to head penalty during the Devils' 5-4 victory on Monday.

The penalty didn't end up costing New Jersey and Tootoo isn't expected to receive any supplemental discipline. Still, if the Devils see it as an undisciplined penalty on Tootoo's part then it will work against him as he battles to make the team after agreeing to a tryout offer.
Sep 23 - 10:29 AM

Travis Zajac was impressed by what he's seen from Jordin Tootoo so far.

"This was the first time I was on the ice with him (same group) and he looks pretty good," Travis Zajac said. "He's got great speed. He flies around out there. For the role he plays I think he can be effective." Tootoo is participating in the Devils' training camp on a tryout basis. If he makes the team, it will be as a third or fourth line player.
Sep 21 - 1:34 PM

Josh Rimer is reporting that the New Jersey Devils are giving Jordin Tootoo a professional tryout offer.

Tootoo played for the Detroit Red Wings last season and was bought out of his contract in June. There were rumors that the Winnipeg Jets offered him a two-way contract that he turned down before agreeing to go to camp with the Devils. Tootoo has value in pools that use penalty minutes but of course he will have to crack the Devils roster to have any value.
Sep 13 - 8:32 AM

Jordin Tootoo remains an unsigned free agent.

He was bought out by the Detroit Red Wings and reportedly turned down a two-way offer from the Winnipeg Jets. Tootoo probably wouldn't be a fit to return to Nashville, but he still could be a physical presence somewhere in the NHL.
Aug 25 - 3:09 PM

The Winnipeg Jets could be a potential landing spot for Jordin Tootoo.

The Churchill, Manitoba product was placed on waivers by the Red Wings on Wednesday with the intention of buying out the remainder of his contract. Winnipeg may have several openings in their bottom-six group with Olli Jokinen, Devin Setoguchi and Chris Thorburn eligible for unrestricted free agency as well as Matt Halischuk, Michael Frolik and James Wright set to be restricted free agents.
Jun 19 - 9:30 AM

The Detroit Red Wings have placed Jordin Tootoo on waivers.

The plan is to buy out the remainder of Tootoo's contract if he clears waivers. Because the Red Wings still have an available compliance buyout, Detroit would save $1.9 million in cap space for the 2014-15 campaign.
