At 30 years old and having played for 10 professional teams, the Bruins are hoping Steve Eminger could play a key role off the ice in their organization.

The 6'2, 203 pound blueliner was signed to a minor league contract on Friday as Bruins' GM Peter Chiarelli tries to round out his roster under serious cap limitations. Eminger will act as a veteran mentor for the young defensemen developing in Providence, and serve as experienced depth if an overwhelming throng of injuries hit the Boston blueline.

Steve Eminger has inked an AHL contract with the Providence Bruins.

Providence is of course the AHL affiliate of Boston. Eminger had two assists in 25 KHL contests and another seven points in 33 AHL games in 2013-14.

Steve Eminger has reached a preliminary agreement with Admiral Vladivostok of the KHL, according to CSN's Sarah Baicker.

Sport-Express is also reporting that Eminger is set to join the KHL expansion team. Eminger wasn't able to crack the top-six group of the New York Rangers on a regular basis, so it's not surprising that he was permitted to walk as a free agent. He had three assists and a plus-9 rating in 35 games last year.

Steve Eminger will play in Sunday's contest against the Buffalo Sabres.

Matt Gilroy will take a seat tonight. However, Eminger will not have much fantasy impact during this 48-game shortened season.

Steve Eminger acquitted himself well on New York's blueline Tuesday night in his first game back with the team following his conditioning stint in the minors.

He earned 20:33 of ice time and posted an assist in the Rangers' 4-3 loss to Winnipeg. The club is currently missing Ryan McDonagh and Michael Del Zotto due to injuries so the seldom-used Eminger got his chance to play heavy minutes for the first time this season. His previous high for ice time in 2013 was the 7:20 he played against Philadelphia back on Jan. 24.

Steve Eminger has returned from his AHL conditioning stint.

Eminger only played in four of the Rangers' first 12 games. He has no fantasy value.

Steve Eminger has been sent down to the minors on a conditioning stint.

He has been a healthy scratch in eight of the team's 12 games this season. Eminger has watched the Rangers' past two games from the press box and he has averaged a mere 5:52 of ice time when he has gotten into the lineup. This type of reassignment has to get the blessing of the player and it can last for a maximum of 14 days.

He filled in for Stu Bickel, who moved up to forward on the fourth line, on the back end. Eminger played just over six minutes of ice time in New York's overtime win over Boston and finished with a plus-1 rating.

The deal is reportedly for one year at $750,000. Eminger was sitting as an unrestricted free agent after the 2011-12 campaign ended. He skated in 42 games with the Rangers last season, where he notched five points, 28 penalty minutes and 63 hits.

Steve Eminger put his injured ankle through a hard skate on Monday, but there's still no timetable for a return to the Rangers' lineup.

He had been resting it for a couple of weeks going into the playoffs, but insisted that it wasn't because he had suffered a setback. Eminger's sprained ankle has kept him out of action since Mar. 15.
