Boyd Gordon was caught off guard when he was given credit for Edmonton's shorthanded goal on Sunday.

The goal was the result of Patrick Kane accidentally scoring on his own net in an attempt to pass the puck back to the puck while Chicago's goalie was pulled due to a delayed penalty call. Gordon was on the bench when Kane scored, but he was determined to be the last Oilers' player to have possession of the puck. "I didn't hear them announce it. I wasn't paying attention, then Hemmer (Ales Hemsky) said 'hey, they gave the goal to you.' It still doesn't make any sense," said Gordon. "I thought they screwed it up and they were going to give it to (Mark) Arcobello. I also thought Marty (Marincin) might have touched it." Nevertheless it was Gordon's eighth marker of 2013-14.

Boyd Gordon was credited with a shorthanded goal on Sunday.

The Oilers were shorthanded when Devan Dubnyk slashed Andrew Shaw in the second period. The Blackhawks were in possession of the puck and pulled the goalie for an extra attacker. Patrick Kane then passed the puck back to the point, except there was no one there and the puck traveled 200 feet into the empty cage. Gordon was credited with the goal, his eighth of the season tying a career high, and first shorthanded goal of the season.

Boyd Gordon (shoulder) could return to action this week.

The Edmonton Oilers needed to shuffle their lineup around on Sunday as Boyd Gordon is injured.

Will Acton takes the defensively savvy center's place against the Dallas Stars. It's unclear what is bothering Gordon, who apparently was hurt in Friday's loss to Columbus.

Boyd Gordon has been great at the face off dot for the Oilers this season.

Gordon leads the NHL in faceoff wins while shorthanded with 52 and is fourth overall in the league in overall faceoff percentage at 58.2. He is also contributing offensively with five goals and 11 points in 24 games. He should be in your lineup if you use the faceoff category.

Boyd Gordon had a goal and an assist to lead the Oilers Saturday.

Gordon now has five goals and five assists this season in 22 games and has a good shot to beat his career high of 29 points set in Washington during the 2006-07 season. He is minus-nine this season so we can't recommend him even in deep pools.

Boyd Gordon recorded three assists in Edmonton's 4-3 overtime win against the Florida Panthers.

Gordon snapped his nine-game scoring drought. He now has four goals and eight points in 16 contests this season.

Boyd Gordon netted his fourth goal of the season in Monday's 4-2 loss in Washington.

Through only six games Gordon is already halfway to his career-best of eight goals, which he set with the Coyotes in 2011-12. Will Acton's first career NHL goal was the only other Oilers tally in the loss.

Boyd Gordon has earned a point in each of Edmonton's first three games this season.

He has registered two goals and one assist during his three-game point streak to begin the 2013-14 season. Gordon is being given an opportunity to play with some talented players on Edmonton's second- and third-line combinations and he's playing in all situations. He has also been strong on the draw with a 61.8 winning percentage on 68 total faceoffs. Consider him as an option in deeper leagues, especially if you need someone who can take faceoffs.

Boyd Gordon picked up a goal in Edmonton's 6-2 loss to the Canucks on Saturday night.

While it's nice for the Oilers that a depth player such as Gordon has two goals this season, they'll need their top forwards to be the ones who set the tone offensively. Jeff Petry also scored for Edmonton. Mike Brown had 12 penalty minutes in the loss. David Perron, Ladislav Smid and Ales Hemsky notched the assists.

With Ryan Nugent-Hopkins and now Sam Gagner sidelined, the Edmonton Oilers are looking pretty thin up the middle.

This could be an opportunity for Boyd Gordon though as he might end up serving as the team's second-line center. "Boyd has more offense than what his goal scoring numbers last year in Phoenix (four goals) would lead you to believe. It (offense) might be enhanced by playing with more skilled players. Phoenix doesn't have the firepower that we should have," said Oilers GM Craig MacTavish. Well, Gordon doesn't just have a single anemic offensive season under his belt. He's 29 years old and has never recorded more than 29 points in a single NHL season. With that in mind, we can't recommend picking him up yet, but he's at least worth keeping a close eye on.
