Jiri Hudler has had a rough 2016-17 and he made the highlight reel for the wrong reason on Thursday night.

He scored into his own net during a delayed penalty in the first period of a 3-2 loss to Ottawa when his drop pass went between Dallas' defensemen. "I wasn't trying to do it, it was just a mistake," Hudler said. "It was unfortunate." He has skated in just 24 games this season, while dealing with illness and healthy scratches, and he has contributed a mere seven points.

He has been scratched for the last six games. "It's been a tough year for him," coach Lindy Ruff said. "He missed a good couple months with being sick, and then recently a personal leave for a few days." Hudler is projected to play on the fourth line with Adam Cracknell and Lauri Korpikoski.

Jiri Hudler scored his first goal of the season at the 7:44 mark of the third period to give Dallas a 6-4 win over Los Angeles on Monday night.

After a relatively calm first and second period, the third exploded with six goals scored. Dallas entered that period with a 3-1 lead, but the Kings scored three times in the first five and half minutes with one answer from the Stars. A little more than two minutes after Drew Doughty tied the game, Hudler reestablished the Stars lead. Hudler’s first goal in 16 games this season was not the only drought-killer for the Stars. Brett Ritchie kicked off the scoring for the team late in the first to snap a 12-game goalless streak. Hudler also had an assist on Tyler Seguin's second period goal

Jiri Hudler posted an assist in Tuesday's 3-2 overtime loss to St. Louis.

It was his second point of the season and his second helper in five games since returning to the lineup from a bothersome illness. Hudler has been limited to just nine appearances this year.

Jiri Hudler will skate on the Stars' third line in his return to the lineup on Sunday against the Blackhawks.

He'll skate to the left Cody Eakin and Patrick Eaves. Hudler is pointless through four games so far. He has four straight seasons of at least 40 points, so we'd expect it to turn around.
