Laing sustained the injury when he was hit by a shot in the third period of Tuesday's game. He had two metal plates inserted into the left side of his jaw and it is now wired shut. We wish Laing a speedy recovery.

Quintin Laing has been diagnosed with the H1N1 virus.

Laing is the third NHL player to be diagnosed with the disease. Peter Budaj and Ladislav Smid are also battling the swine flu. Laing isn't expected to play for the Capitals on Thursday against Atlanta or Friday against the New York Islanders.

The Capitals have re-signed winger Quintin Laing to a one-year deal.

Financial terms were not released. Laing played only one game with the Capitals this season, and, unfortunately, ruptured his spleen during that match. He had nine goals and 25 points in 55 games with the Hershey Bears of the AHL. He is a depth forward for the organization that will fight for a spot on the fourth line in training camp next year.

Quintin Laing might not require surgery on his torn spleen.

Laing was hospitalized on Thursday due to a torn spleen and he has remained there since. The doctors and Laing are now waiting for the swelling to go down. If everything works out, Laing could be released from the hospital as early as Monday.

Quintin Laing has been hospitalized with a torn spleen.

"He said geez, 'My abs are hurting'," coach Bruce Boudreau said. "And [head athletic trainer Greg Smith] said, 'That's not your abs.' I have no idea if he's having surgery or not having surgery. But Smitty said it's a three- to four-month recovery period, at least." Boudreau also said that Laing is in intensive care. Laing played in his first NHL game of the season Thursday night. Washington isn't sure when or how he suffered the injury. We wish Laing the best of luck in his recovery.

The Washington Capitals have recalled Quintin Laing from the minors.

Laing will fill in for Boyd Gordon, who might have suffered an injury. Laing hasn't played in the NHL since the 2007-08 season and is mostly known for his shot blocking abilities.
