Mike Smith shrugged off concerns about his age going into the 2018-19 campaign.
Smith is 36-years-old and will celebrate his birthday on March 22nd. In other words, he's marching towards the twilight of his career, which has to be a consideration for the Flames given that they hope to lean on him again this season. Smith feels perfectly fine though. "I haven’t aged five years in one year, so I think I still feel young," Smith said. "I still feel like I have a lot to give. I still feel like I’ve played some of my best hockey in the last three or four years. Hopefully that continues and I can stay healthy and be as consistent as possible." He had a 2.65 GAA and .916 save percentage in 55 games last season. Sep 7 - 5:59 AM

Mike Smith is projected to start on Thursday versus Winnipeg.

That hasn't been confirmed yet, so stay tuned for further details following Calgary's morning skate. It would make sense after Smith got Tuesday's game off, though.

Mike Smith stopped 34 of 36 shots in a 3-2 win over the Edmonton Oilers.

The win breaks a run of five games without picking up a win for Smith. The 36-year-old goaltender had a great opening to the season but he really faded down the stretch. The Flames might be wise to bring in a more experienced backup goaltender next season that will allow Smith to stay fresh over the course of the regular season. His record will improve to 25-22-6 on the year.
Apr 1 - 1:30 AM

Updating an earlier post, Mike Smith will indeed get the start Saturday night against Edmonton.

Smith was first goalie off the ice during Saturday's morning skate. Although neither team is playing for anything, with both teams out of the playoff hunt, the Battle of Alberta is always entertaining.
Mar 31 - 1:28 PM

Mike Smith is the Flames' probable starter against the Oilers in Saturday night's Battle of Alberta.

Smith is coming off a 3-0 loss to the Kings in which he stopped 26 shots. For the season, Smith has posted a 24-22-6 record with a 2.66 goals-against average and .916 save percentage.

Mar 31 - 12:26 PM

Mike Smith allowed just three goals on 29 shots in Monday's 3-0 road loss against the Kings.

Smith did his best to keep the team in the game, as all three goals he allowed came on the power play. The Flames have provided him with zero goals of support in three of his past four outings. That's certainly not what fantasy owners want to see. He has dropped five straight starts since scratching out a 1-0 win March 13 against the Oilers. The Flames have a couple of days to regroup before hosting the Blue Jackets on Thursday.
Mar 27 - 1:42 AM

Mike Smith will be in net Monday against Los Angeles.

Smith got the hook after 40 minutes in last Wednesday's 4-0 loss to Anaheim after he permitted three goals on 11 shots. He has posted losses in each of his last four outings. Smith has a 24-21-6 record this season with a 2.66 goals-against average and .916 save percentage.
Mar 26 - 3:57 PM

Mike Smith allowed three goals on 11 shots in Wednesday's 4-0 loss against the Ducks.

Smith was pulled after 40 minutes, as David Rittich spelled him in the third period. The veteran is in the midst of an ugly stretch, as he is 1-5-0 with a 3.79 goals-against average and a dismal .861 save percentage in his six appearances in the month of March. He'll have a couple of days to lick his wounds before a matinee battle on Saturday in San Jose.
Mar 22 - 12:58 AM

Mike Smith is likely to get the start Wednesday when the Flames host the Anaheim Ducks.

The Flames are hanging on by a thread to stay in playoff contention and while it looks like there is no way they will make it, Calgary should start Smith against the divisional rivals. He is 24-20-6 with a 2.63 GAA and a .917 save percentage.

Mar 21 - 7:47 AM

Mike Smith allowed three goals on 28 shots in Monday's 5-2 loss at Arizona.

The game ended up 5-2, but two late empty-net goals made it appear more lopsided than it was. Calgary was tied 2-2 with 3:51 left until Oliver Ekman-Larsson beat Smith on an even-strength goal, as the goaltender fell to his former team. The Flames will be back at it on Wednesday night at home against the Anaheim Ducks.
Mar 20 - 12:58 AM

Mike Smith will be back in the nets for Calgary on Monday night versus Arizona.

Smith is coming off a 4-0 loss to Vegas on Sunday. The Flames need a win to stay in the playoff hunt and Smith wanted to play against his former team. He has dropped three of four games since he returned to the lineup from injury.
Mar 19 - 2:45 PM

Mike Smith wants to play against his former Arizona teammates when the two teams play in Phoenix Monday.

Smith played Sunday in Las Vegas but surely wants this one in a place he called home for six seasons. He missed the first game back as he had a groin injury but really would love to get the start Monday. He is 24-19-6 with a 2.62 GAA and a .918 save percentage as he has given the Flames strong netminding this season.

Mar 19 - 7:25 AM

Mike Smith allowed four goals on 31 shots in Sunday's 4-0 loss to the Vegas Golden Knights.

Smith blanked the Golden Knights in the first and third periods, but he allowed four goals in the middle frame. The Flames netminder has now dropped three of four games since returning to the lineup. He has a 24-19-6 record with a 2.62 goals-against-average and a .918 save percentage this season.
Mar 18 - 7:33 PM

The Calgary Flames will have Mike Smith in goal tomorrow against the Vegas Golden Knights.

Smith is coming off a disaster outing where he gave up six goals on 20 shots in a 7-4 loss to the San Jose Sharks. The Flames will need him to bounce back in a big way against a highly motivated Vegas team coming off back-to-back regulation losses. The Flames sit four points back for the final wild card spot in the West and can't afford to drop many more games. Smith has a 24-18-6 record this season with a 2.60 goals-against-average and .919 save percentage.
Mar 17 - 2:46 PM

Mike Smith allowed six goals on 20 shots in a 7-4 loss to the San Jose Sharks.

"It was one of those nights where pucks were hitting things, going in, and a couple bad breaks." said Smith. "It was definitely an off night. A tough one to swallow." Smith did catch a few bad breaks but he could not let goals in like Evander Kane's soft shot from the blue line that opened the scoring six minutes into the game. The 35-year-old Smith will see his record drop to 24-18-6 with a 2.60 goals-against-average and .919 save percentage. He'll have a chance to bounce back on Sunday against the Arizona Coyotes.
