Mike Smith did his best to hold off the Flyers on Tuesday, but he was saddled with a loss after he stopped 39 of 42 shots in a 4-3 shootout defeat.
Smith has really been snakebitten this year and can't even buy a win on a night when he actually puts together a decent performance. His record falls to an ugly 7-20-4 with the loss while his GAA is 3.49 and his save percentage is .889. Jan 27 - 11:12 PM

Mike Smith will face the Philadelphia Flyers on Tuesday night.

Through 31 appearances this season, Smith is 7-20-3 with a 3.60 GAA and and .887 save percentage. These stats make him either otherworldly in a reverse fantasy league that rewards leading the NHL in losses with 103 goals against, or not a viable fantasy option at all.
Jan 27 - 6:25 PM

Mike Smith and the Coyotes were relentlessly attacked by the Blackhawks on Tuesday en route to a 6-1 loss.

Smith ceded six goals to the Hawks on a whopping 51 shots, proving how busy he was throughout the contest. The Arizona netminder has been a nightmare for fantasy owners of late, combining poor results with the fact he receives a ton of playing time. His record is now 7-21-3 while his GAA is 3.60 and his save percentage is .887.

Mike Smith will be between the pipes against Chicago on Tuesday night.

With a 7-19-3 record and an ugly 3.43 GAA, a .887 save percentage, Mike Smith can only be recommended in reverse leagues that reward 19 losses and 97 goals against in 30 games.

Mike Smith made 27 saves on 30 shots in Sunday's 4-3 shootout loss to Winnipeg.

Smith's ugly season continues. The Coyotes' goaltender has now dropped four consecutive decisions (0-3-1) and his record falls to 7-19-3 on the season. Not much has gone well for Arizona this season, including their goaltending situation. They have now lost five consecutive games. Expect the Coyotes to ship some veterans out of town so they can start a full-out rebuild. Smith has an ugly 3.43 goals-against-average and a .887 save percentage.
Jan 18 - 10:29 PM

Mike Smith will get the start against the Winnipeg Jets on Sunday night.

Through 27 starts and 29 games, Smith is 7-19-2 with 94 goals against. Though he's been a bit better against the Jets franchise, in 16 starts he's 8-7-1 with 42 goals against. You may still want to find a better goalie and matchup to play tonight.
Jan 18 - 6:34 PM

Mike Smith set away 30 shots in the Coyotes’ 3-1 loss to Minnesota on Saturday night.

Zach Parise’s goal went in with the net empty. For better or worse, the job is Smith’s and only his for the rest of the season. The Coyotes will fare as well as their netminder does. And thus far, it hasn’t been good. Smith has an unsightly 3.45 goals-against average and .887 save percentage.
Jan 17 - 11:47 PM

Mike Smith will be between the pipes for Arizona in Saturday's game in Minnesota.

It's been a season to forget for Smith. The 32-year-old has lost three of his last four games and has just two wins since December 2nd. He has a 3.51 goals-against-average and an .885 save percentage.
Jan 17 - 3:24 PM

Mike Smith gave up four goals on 24 shots in Thursday's loss to Calgary.

It was another rough start for Smith who gave up a very soft goal to Mikael Backlund just 63 seconds into the second period to open the scoring. Mark Giordano was also able to put a softy past him as well late in the third to put the game out of reach. Through 28 games, Smith now owns a dreadful 7-18-2 record with a .885 save percentage and a 3.51 GAA.
Jan 16 - 12:11 AM

Mike Smith will start Thursday's game against the Calgary Flames.

With Devan Dubnyk being traded to Minnesota, Smith should see a heavy workload the rest of the way. The 32-year-old has been a major disappointment this season. Smith has a 7-17-2 record with a 3.53 goals-against-average and a .885 save percentage.
Jan 15 - 7:25 PM

With Devan Dubnyk traded, the Arizona Coyotes will go back to giving Mike Smith the bulk of their starts.

Coyotes GM Don Maloney said Arizona's commitment in Smith hasn't wavered, but the reality of the situation is that the Coyotes gave him a big, long-term contract and now they're stuck with each other for better or worse. Smith has a 3.52 GAA and .885 save percentage in 27 contests in 2014-15. It's possible that the Coyotes would buy him out if he doesn't rebound before the end of the season, but Arizona would be eating a lot of money in that scenario and that might not be something they would feel is best given their budget.
Jan 15 - 8:50 AM

Mike Smith was blasted for five goals on 33 shots in the Coyotes’ 5-1 loss to the Senators on Saturday night.

More of the same for Smith after his best start of the season. Even if the Coyotes coaching staff thinks Smith has looked better, he clearly has not. Smith has a 3.52 goals-against average and .885 save percentage this season. He should not be trusted.
Jan 10 - 10:27 PM

Mike Smith will start for the second straight game on Saturday against Ottawa.

Through 24 starts and 26 games, Smith has won just seven times and is sporting a .886 save percentage and a 3.46 GAA. However in nine career starts against Ottawa, Smith have five wins with 25 goals against.
Jan 10 - 4:51 PM

Mike Smith achieved some redemption for his previous six-goal pounding with a one-goal victory over Winnipeg on Thursday night.

Smith was on top of his game from start to finish, only getting beaten after a pretty passing sequence from Mark Scheifele to Andrew Ladd, who threw it behind his back to a streaking Mathieu Perreault. The goal made it 3-1, but the Coyotes would go on to win 4-1.
Jan 9 - 2:17 AM

Mike Smith will get an attempt at redemption tonight against the Winnipeg Jets.

The Jets have scored the 21st most goals in the NHL so far, but Mike Smith has been beaten for 85 goals on 705 shots over 25 games. In short, start him at your own risk.
