Mike Smith stopped 31 of 33 shots he faced in a 2-1 loss to the Carolina Hurricanes on Thursday night.
Another solid outing for Smith, who has started every game for the Flames since being acquired in the summer. The loss drops him to 4-3-0 on the season with a 2.51 goals-against average and a .930 save percentage. The start versus the Hurricanes came as a surprise to some, seeing as his backup is Eddie Lack, Carolina's former goaltender. As long as Smith stays healthy, look for him to get the bulk of the workload and remain a fantasy asset. Oct 19 - 11:56 PM

Date:

It looks like Mike Smith will start against Carolina on Thursday.

Smith was the first goaltender off the ice following the morning skate, which is usually a good indicator of who the starter will be. Smith is Calgary's number one goaltender, but it's a bit surprising that Eddie Lack, who hasn't started yet this season, won't get the chance to play against his old team.
Oct 19 - 1:54 PM

Mike Smith stopped 27 of 29 shots in a 5-2 win against the Vancouver Canucks on Saturday.

It was a much needed bounce back performance for Smith, who got lit up by the Senators Friday night. He made several big saves and looked in complete control for large portions of the contest. The win improves his record to 4-2-0 on the season with a 2.59 goals against average and .929 save percentage.
Oct 15 - 1:02 AM

Mike Smith will start again Saturday against the Vancouver Canucks.

Smith allowed five goals on 22 shots in a 6-0 loss to the Ottawa Senators last night. He'll look for a big bounce back game tonight against the Canucks, a team he has a 8-8-2 record against in his career. You could probably do better than Smith tonight on a back-to-back but we wouldn't be opposed to starting him.
Oct 14 - 6:18 PM

Mike Smith stopped 17 of 22 shots in a 6-0 loss to the Ottawa Senators.

Just like that, Smith see's his three-game winning streak come to an end. He had an average start to the game but Ottawa really took control in the third period, where they scored four goals. Some noted the Flames look a little tired out there, but they won't have much time to recover as they host the Canucks tomorrow night. Check back here, but we'd expect Eddie Lack to get the start in goal for the Flames. Smith's record drops to 3-2-0 on the season with a 2.71 goals against average and a .929 save percentage.
Oct 13 - 11:55 PM

Mike Smith will probably start on Friday.

Smith was the first goalie off the ice following the morning skate, which usually indicates who the starter will be. He's been great with the Flames so far as he's posted a 3-1-0 record, 2.00 GAA, and .950 save percentage in four starts.
Oct 13 - 1:51 PM

Mike Smith allowed three goals on 45 shots in Wednesday's 4-3 overtime win in Los Angeles.

The Flames defense has been horrific in front of Smith, as he has been forced to make 42 or more saves in three of his first four starts. However, he has rattled off three consecutive victories and is off to a great start despite the lack of defense. A change of scenery is doing the former All-Star good so far after years playing for mediocre teams in Arizona.
Oct 12 - 3:11 AM

Mike Smith is scheduled to start Wednesday's road game in Los Angeles, head coach Glen Gulutzan confirmed Tuesday.

Smith has been tremendous during the early going for his new club, including a shutout on Monday in Anaheim which snapped a 13-year losing skid at 'The Pond'. The veteran has posted a pair of wins with a .957 save percentage through three starts to date.
Oct 11 - 12:20 AM

Mike Smith stopped all 43 shots he faced in Monday's 2-0 victory against the Ducks as the Flames snapped a 29-game losing streak in Anaheim.

The Flames were last victorious in Anaheim way back on Jan. 19, 2004, when Anaheim still referred to their club as the Mighty Ducks. Smith is paying big dividends early on in a Calgary sweater, posting two wins with a .957 save percentage through his first three starts.
Oct 10 - 12:48 AM

Mike Smith is projected to start Monday's contest against Anaheim.

Smith has registered a 1-1-0 record with a 2.52 goals-against average and a .931 save percentage in his first two games with the Flames. He stopped 25 shots in a 6-3 win over Winnipeg on Saturday in his last outing.
Oct 9 - 2:54 PM

Mike Smith didn't shine in Saturday's win over Winnipeg, but he still got his first victory in a Flames uniform.

Smith blocked 25 of 28 shots in a 6-3 win over the Jets. He was excellent in Wednesday's 3-0 loss to Edmonton. Smith has a 2.52 GAA and a .931 save percentage so far this season.
Oct 8 - 1:35 AM

Mike Smith is expected to start on Saturday.

Smith made 42 saves in his Flames' debut, but Calgary still suffered a 3-0 loss to Edmonton. Hopefully he'll get more support tonight against Winnipeg.
Oct 7 - 5:41 PM

Mike Smith is probable to face the Jets Saturday night.

Smith is coming off a 42-save, 3-0 loss to the Oilers in which he was the Flames' best player. Although the Jets may be a little angry after being embarrassed 7-2 by Toronto in their season opener and may pose a challenge to Smith and his teammates, we expect Smith to hold his own Saturday night.
Oct 7 - 12:29 PM

Mike Smith joined the Flames for Friday's practice.

Smith took Thursday's skate off, but he should be fine. He stopped 42 of 44 shots Wednesday night, so it's not surprising that he got a game off after that.
Oct 6 - 1:31 PM

Mike Smith stopped 42 of the 44 shots he faced in Wednesday's loss against the visiting Flames.

Smith was peppered by the Edmonton offense but he held his own. He just had no answers for Connor McDavid, who lit the lamp with two against Smith and another into the empty cage. Smith has a good team in front of him and he'll produce many more wins than the past three seasons in Arizona when he averaged just 16 victories per campaign.
