The Boston Bruins have released Christian Ehrhoff from his PTO.

Ehrhoff is heading back to Germany and his NHL career might be over. The Bruins actually did have some interest in signing him, but Ehrhoff was looking for a top-six spot and didn't feel confident that the Bruins would provide him with that kind of consistent playing time.

Christian Ehrhoff can only wait and see now as the deadline for the Boston Bruins to set their 23-man roster looms.

Ehrhoff attended the Bruins camp on a tryout basis and the fact that he hasn't been released yet suggests that Boston is seriously considering employing him. "I thought overall I played pretty good," said Ehrhoff on Saturday. "Today was a little bit of a battle at times, but I thought I did pretty well. For me it’s a chance to prove that I can still play in this league and I just took it day-by- day and tried to do my best out there. That’s what I did. I put it all on the line, and now I wait and see." Ehrhoff was limited to 12 points in 48 games last season, but as recently as 2013-14 he surpassed the 30-point mark and he's a former 50-point defenseman.

Christian Ehrhoff scored in Boston's 4-3 loss to the Montreal Canadiens.

Ehrhoff is trying to earn his way onto the Bruins roster after he inked a PTO with the team last week. This was Ehrhoff's first game as a member of the Bruins and scoring didn't hurt his chances of making the team. Boston's defense is the weakest part of their team (by far), so it would be mildly surprising to see Ehrhoff not make the team. Even if he does make the team, he won't have any fantasy value.

Christian Ehrhoff is expected to be on the ice with the Bruins on Sunday.

The veteran defenseman signed a professional tryout contract earlier this week and has a legitimate chance to crack the Bruins' roster. "(Ehrhoff) is a good-sized defenseman, skates well, moves the puck well. What I liked about him was his compete level was pretty good. If he comes here and competes the same, he’s a guy that could certainly makes things interesting for us," said Boston coach Claude Julien. That said, Ehrhoff is no longer a fantasy asset.

Christian Ehrhoff will reportedly sign a PTO with the Boston Bruins.

It's somewhat of a good fit for both sides. Boston needs help on the blue line and Ehrhoff is still looking for work. The 34-year-old had two goals and 12 points in 48 games with the Los Angeles Kings and Chicago Blackhawks. His days as a top-four defenseman are over.

Christian Ehrhoff could get a contract from an NHL team after the World Cup of Hockey.

He has played well for Team Europe at the tournament, with three assists and a plus-3 rating in four games. Teammate Dennis Seidenberg, who is also an unrestricted free agent, may get a look because he has had a good showing as well. "They've done a great job for us," Europe GM Miroslav Satan said. "The way they've played, some NHL teams might take a look at them. This tournament might help them prolong their NHL careers."

Christian Ehrhoff remains unsigned as an unrestricted free agent.

He will play for Team Europe at the World Cup of Hockey, which could help him earn a contract before the start of the regular season. Ehrhoff earned 12 points in 48 appearances with Los Angeles and Chicago last season.

Christian Ehrhoff is a scratch, yet again, in Game 6.

There was a thought earlier today that the veteran blueliner would play. Ehrhoff has not played in the playoffs. He has 12 points in 48 games this season.

Christian Ehrhoff will play Saturday against the Blues.

It's been a season of woe for the veteran defender. He's seen just seven games with Chicago thus far, registering two helpers and not much else.

Christian Ehrhoff, Dennis Rasmussen, and Richard Panik will be scratched against the Jets on Friday.

Unfortunately there isn't a lick of fantas value between them. Between 70 games played by Rasmussen and Panik, there's been just nine goals and 15 points. Yikes.

Christian Ehrhoff will tag in for Michal Rozsival in Sunday's match with Vancouver.

Unfortunately neither veteran defender offers much fantasy value you. In five games with Chicago, Ehrhoff has posted an assist with four hits and blocks and 14 shots on net.

Christian Ehrhoff and Erik Gustafsson will be scratched against Calgary on Saturday night.

Through the first three dozen games of Gustafsson's career, the 23-year-old has posted a dozen assists with 26 hits and 33 blocks. Not too shabby at all.

Coach Joel Quenneville will not make any line changes against the Stars on Tuesday night.

Which means that Christian Ehrhoff, Dennis Rasmussen, and Brandon Mashinter will each be scratched once again. Unfortunately there isn't a lick of fantasy value between them, either.
Tue, Mar 22, 2016 08:16:00 PM

Christian Ehrhoff, Dennis Rasmussen, and Brandon Mashinter will each be scratched for Sunday's match with Minnesota.

Unfortunately there isn't a scrap of fantasy value between these three. Ehrhoff continues to be particularly disappointing given his career. He's posted just one assist in five games with Chicago thus far along with being a frequent scratch.
