It sounds like Marek Zidlicky doesn't anticipate playing beyond the 2015-16 campaign.
Zidlicky described this season as his "last chance." He signed a one-year deal with the New York Islanders that comes with a base salary of $1.5 million. He's 38 years old now, but might still have some fantasy value if the Islanders use him with the man advantage. He had 34 points in 84 contests with New Jersey and Detroit last season. Additional details have come out about Marek Zidlicky's contract with the New York Islanders.

Zidlicky, who will earn a base salary of $1.5M, can earn up to $1.339M in performance bonuses. Let's go through them: on top of his No-Move Clause, Zidlicky will earn $8,095 for each game played after his 40th, $200K once he notches his 35th point, and an additional $200K for each playoff round won by the Islanders. Zidlicky scored 34 points last season and 42 the season before, easily his highest totals since his age-32 season in 2009-10 with Minnesota where he scored 43 points.
Sep 18 - 10:11 PM

Veteran defenseman Marek Zidlicky has signed a one-year contract with a base salary of just $1.5M with the New York Islanders.

Zidlicky can earn bonuses based on games played, points, and playoff rounds won. It's a 50% hair cut from his salary in 2014-15 where he could also earn over an additional $1M in bonuses. Be that as it may, Zidlicky produced seven goals and 34 points in 84 games with New Jersey and Detroit last season. It's worth noting that he scored three goals and 11 points in 21 games after the trade, and tallied six goals and 20 of his points on the power play.
Sep 18 - 8:55 PM

The New York Islanders have reportedly been involved in contract talks with unrestricted free agent Marek Zidlicky for the past few weeks.

Clearly, the Isles have an interest in adding the offensive defenseman. Zidlicky produced seven goals and 34 points in 84 games last season with New Jersey and Detroit.
Aug 12 - 1:23 PM

The Boston Bruins have reached out to unrestricted free agent Marek Zidlicky.

Zidlicky had seven goals and 34 points in 84 games with New Jersey and Detroit last season. He could help the Bruins with the man advantage if they sign him. He wouldn't come close to replacing Dougie Hamilton in Boston, even in the short-term, but Zidlicky would still be a decent addition to the Bruins' blueline.
Jul 30 - 2:26 PM

Marek Zidlicky is fully committed to playing in the 2015-16 campaign.

Zidlicky was acquired by the Detroit Red Wings at the trade deadline and Detroit was happy with his performance. He's a right-handed shot, which is something the Red Wings were previously hurting for. It wouldn't be shocking if he re-signs with Detroit, but the Red Wings already have five defensemen under contract, not including RFA Brendan Smith, so his return is far from inevitable.
Jun 2 - 9:25 AM

The injury that forced Marek Zidlicky to miss Game 7 against the Lightning was a concussion.

He sustained the injury on a late hit from Tampa's Brenden Morrow in Game 6. As the Red Wings are no longer in the playoffs, the 38-year-old Zidlicky will have plenty of time to recover before next season should he choose to continue his career.
May 2 - 9:50 AM

Marek Zidlicky (upper body) will miss his first game this year on Wednesday night.

He played in 84 regular season games between New Jersey and Detroit this year, as well as six playoff contests. Zidlicky, who hasn't earned a point against Tampa Bay in the postseason, suffered a possible concussion in Game 6, so he won't be available for Game 7.
Apr 29 - 4:32 PM

Marek Zidlicky will miss Wednesday's Game 7 versus Tampa Bay due to injury.

There's some speculation that it could be a concussion. Zidlicky didn't skate in the morning after logging 17:22 of ice time in Game 6 on Monday. He has no points and eight shots in Detroit's first-round series against the Lightning.
Apr 29 - 12:22 PM

Red Wings GM Ken Holland has some interest in re-signing Marek Zidlicky.

Detroit acquired Zidlicky from the New Jersey Devils at the trade deadline in exchange for a 2016 third-round pick. He's been a bargain at that price with three goals and seven points in seven games in 2014-15. He's a right-hand shooting defenseman that doesn't look out of place on the power play, which is something Detroit had lacked for a while, so it's not surprising to hear Holland has some interest in keeping Zidlicky beyond this season. Zidlicky is 38 years old, but he's still productive offensively and should hold his own in 2015-16 under the right circumstances.
Mar 17 - 4:18 PM

Marek Zidlicky scored a goal and two assists in Sunday afternoon's 5-1 win over Pittsburgh.

It's a nice bounce back win for the Wings, who were blown out 7-2 by the Flyers on Saturday. Zidlicky picked up assists on both of Detroit's first period goals, and he extended the Wings' lead to 3-0 in the second frame. He has quietly been one of the better trade deadline acquisitions. The 38-year-old now has seven points in seven games since being acquired from New Jersey. Teemu Pulkkinen (twice), Riley Sheahan and Henrik Zetterberg also scored for Detroit.
Mar 15 - 3:17 PM

Marek Zidlicky potted his second power-play goal in three games in Sunday's loss to Boston.

He's fit in nicely since being acquired from New Jersey at the trade deadline. "Pretty good team, and they're pretty good players, skilled players," Zidlicky said. "It's a lot easier for me."
Mar 9 - 10:40 AM

Red Wings head coach Mike Babcock expects Marek Zidlicky (charley horse) to play on Sunday against Boston.

The 38-year-old missed practice on Saturday. The Wings acquired Zidlicky just prior to the NHL trade deadline. He has five goals and 24 points in 65 games this season.
Mar 8 - 11:49 AM

Detroit newcomer Marek Zidlicky scored a power-play goal at 1:09 of overtime to give the Red Wings a 2-1 triumph over the visiting New York Rangers Wednesday night.

Zidlicky scored his first goal as a Red Wing in his first game with Detroit since being acquired from New Jersey at the trade deadline this week. Zidlicky was dealt by the Devils for a third-round pick in the 2016 NHL draft. If the Wings reach the Stanley Cup final, New Jersey would get Detroit's second-round pick. Zidlicky, a veteran defenseman, can be an unrestricted free agent after the season. The Wings were in hot pursuit of a right-handed defenseman and they got one in Zidlicky. His goal Wednesday gives him 24 points (five goals) in 64 games this season. The other Detroit goal scorer in this one was Justin Abdelkader, who gave the Wings a 1-0 lead at 6:12 of the first period. Abdelkader now has 14 goals on the season. Henrik Zetterberg assisted on both Detroit goals and increased his season total to 36. Zetterberg was playing for the first time after missing four games because of a head injury.
Mar 4 - 10:50 PM

Marek Zidlicky skated with Brendan Smith during Tuesday's practice.

The pairing will debut Wednesday against the New York Rangers. It will be Zidlicky's first game with the Red Wings after he was acquired from New Jersey at the trade deadline.
