Gregory Campbell was selected as the Bruins' nominee for the Masterton Trophy by the Boston chapter of Professional Hockey Writers’ Association.

The award is given to the player who best exemplifies perseverance, sportsmanship and dedication to hockey. Amongst other things, Campbell is deserving of the award for playing with a broken leg while the Bruins were shorthanded in last season's playoffs. Campbell is an exceptional hockey player but doesn't do much for those of us in hockey pools.
Apr 6 - 8:24 AM

Gregory Campbell potted the game-winning goal in a 3-0 win over Washington on Thursday.

He has four goals, including two game winners, in his last four matches. Campbell has 16 points in 62 contests this season, so his sudden offensive surge has been a pleasant surprise for the Bruins.
Mar 7 - 7:30 AM

Gregory Campbell scored a pair of goals in Boston's 6-3 victory against the Rangers on Sunday.

He also won 70 percent of his faceoffs and he received just 10:56 of ice time. Campbell got a shorthanded goal just before the midway mark of the third period and he added an even strength tally shortly afterward. He has 15 points in 60 games this season.
Mar 3 - 9:55 AM

Gregory Campbell recorded a goal in Tuesday's loss to Toronto.

It was his first marker since Dec. 5, but he does have four points in his five games. Campbell has 10 points in 46 games this campaign, so his current hot streak is impressive but it shouldn't be expected to last.
Jan 15 - 6:44 AM

Gregory Campbell was the only goal scorer for the Bruins in Thursday's 2-1 loss to Montreal.

Campbell converted a feed from Milan Lucic to get the Bruins on the board first, but the team didn't record any other markers in the loss.

Gregory Campbell registered his first point of the year in Monday's win over Tampa Bay.

He earned an assist on a goal by Daniel Paille. "It's nice to have a point, but I think it's important to play the right way and to do what we do well consistently, and points will come for our line," he said. "It has never been an easy thing, but it's been something that we've been rewarded with when we play well. I just want to see us get back to playing hard and playing together as a unit, and we'll have success." Campbell broke his tibia in Game 3 of the Eastern Conference finals and it's been a long road back for him.

Gregory Campbell avoided a serious injury Tuesday when he hit teammate Jordan Caron at practice.

Caron's skate came up following a hip check and it clipped Campbell about a quarter of an inch from his right eye. "Close call, huh?" said Campbell, who suffered a gash on the play. Campbell is slated to play in Boston's season opener Thursday after sustaining a broken leg in the Eastern Conference finals.

Gregory Campbell received a good ovation from the Boston crowd in his return to the lineup in Thursday's preseason match.

"I'm very appreciative of all the support I've gotten from the fans so far," said Campbell who was playing in his first game since he suffered a broken leg in the playoffs. "These fans are passionate people and they appreciate hockey. I like to play hard for the fans, for the city, for the organization. It's been a long couple of months for me to get back on the ice, so it was a nice gesture." His heroic shift was appreciated by more than just Bruins' fans.

Gregory Campbell is hoping to play in Thursday's preseason match versus Detroit.

"I think (tonight) is a realistic possibility," Campbell said after Wednesday morning's practice. "Talking to the surgeon the other day, things look good. It's just a matter of what Claude (Julien) has in store. I'm more than willing to play and I want to play. I want to test myself and see how I feel in game situations." He hasn't played since he suffered a broken leg in the Eastern Conference finals. His right fibula currently has a plate and six screws in it after it required surgery to repair. Campbell has been tested in contact drills during camp, so it wouldn't be surprising to see him play soon even if it doesn't come Thursday.

Gregory Campbell (leg) hasn't been given the green light to play in games yet.

The good news is that Campbell can participate in the Bruins' practices. The Bruins still have about three weeks before their regular season schedule begins.

Gregory Campbell (leg) thinks he'll be ready for the start of the regular season, but he's not 100% yet.

Campbell is recovering from a broken bone that he suffered while blocking a slap shot on June 5. "I've been on the ice for a little over two weeks now, and I was waiting to finally get cleared. As soon as I could get on the ice, I really wanted to get on the ice," said Campbell. "Every day has progressively gotten a little bit better. I wouldn't say that I’m quite ready to compete with the rest of these guys yet, but every day I keep getting a little better. I don’t quite feel like I’m game-ready right now, but that’s OK. I just need to bear with the process and have some patience." Campbell is a great fourth line player in Boston, but his fantasy value is limited.

Promising news for fans of courageous players: Gregory Campbell skated with fellow Boston Bruins players on Thursday.

While he's not particularly useful aside from stray deeper stats like hits, Campbell won over a lot of people by struggling through a broken leg in the 2013 playoffs. He's shown limited ability to produce a little bit of offense during rare spurts alongside talented offensive players, too.

X-rays taken on Gregory Campbell's broken leg a couple of weeks ago looked good but the bone hasn't healed enough for Campbell to start skating yet.

The 29-year-old center with the Bruins is scheduled for another X-ray in Boston on Aug. 20, when there's a chance he will get his clearance. He's hoping to be ready to go at training camp in September but won't be able to gauge his readiness until he's had the chance to skate. Campbell was injured June 5 on a slap shot by Pittsburgh's Evgeni Malkin, and after surgery June 10, the prognosis was 6-8 weeks of recovery, so he's a bit behind.
