Matt Stajan registered an assist in the Flames' 7-4 loss to Edmonton on Wednesday.
There was a time when Stajan was a decent offensive talent, but he's recorded just 17 points in each of his last two seasons. He might do a bit better than that in 2016-17, but he's not likely to have much fantasy value. Keep in mind that his role with the Flames is limited, as illustrated by the fact that he logged just 13:18 in the season opener. Oct 13 - 10:06 AM

Matt Stajan believes the Calgary Flames have something to prove this season.

"I think we have something to prove as a team that two years ago wasn’t a fluke," Stajan said. "I think we want to bounce back from last season because it didn’t go the way we wanted it to. Guys coming back have something to prove. We’ve had some nice additions coming in that are going to want to make a difference and that’ll be great for our hockey club." The Flames will look to bounce back after finishing 12th in the Western Conference last season. To improve, the Flames will need to cut down on their league-worst 260 goals allowed.

Matt Stajan picked up his fifth goal of the season during Friday's 4-3 shootout loss to Colorado.

Stajan is now up to 12 points on the season through 69 games, so he's still best suited for your waiver wire unfortunately.

Matt Stajan snapped an eight-game point drought on Saturday.

He had an assist, bringing him up to five points in 29 games this season. The 31-year-old is averaging a modest 13:59 minutes per contest. He hasn't had much fantasy value since he joined the Calgary Flames during the 2009-10 campaign and that isn't likely to change.

Matt Stajan had had a goal and an assist on Tuesday.

Stajan still has just four points in 20 games this season though. The 31-year-old might pick up the pace marginally for the rest of the campaign, but he won't have much fantasy value in standard leagues.

Matt Stajan had a goal and three points as the Calgary Flames advanced to the second round.

Stajan had the game winner and ended the six game series with four points, not too shabby for a bottom two center. "Things happen so quickly out there, and even when I go home, I’ll blink my eyes and still pinch myself not believing what just happened," Stajan said. "It’s one I’ll enjoy, especially for the next couple days."

Matt Stajan will participate in the NHL playoffs for only the second time in his career.

Stajan played in three playoff games for Toronto in the 2003-04 season, the year before the first lockout. He played another five seasons in Toronto without sniffing the post-season and has been a member of the Flames for the past five-plus seasons without tasting any playoff action. "It’s been tough going year after year where you fall short," Stajan said. "It’s not easy getting into the playoffs in this league. You have your top teams that seem to get in there every year and then it’s a dogfight for the last three or four spots for the rest of the league."

Matt Stajan scored his fifth of the season as he returned to action after missing two weeks for the birth of his son.

It was quite the return for the 31-year-old and celebratory at that as his goal tied the game at two before the Flames were on fire, scoring three more to win 5-2 over the Red Wings. Stajan has 11 points in 42 games this season so he should not be considered fantasy relevant.
