Randy Jones sustained a foot injury in the third period of Thursday's contest.

Jones left the game after he blocked a shot, though it looks like the injury isn't as bad as it could have been. "Everything was fine from an X-ray point of things, he’s just banged up," said Jets coach Claude Noel. "Jones took a heck of a shot to the foot and I’m not sure what his status will be." Consider him day-to-day for now.

As a result, he won't dress on Tuesday in exhibition action and has be replaced on the squad that will play in Columbus by Julian Melchiori. We'll keep you posted on Jones' status, but for now consider him day-to-day.

Randy Jones has agreed to a one-year/$1.15 million contract with the Winnipeg Jets.

Jones had a goal and 13 points in 61 games with the Tampa Bay Lightning last season. He isn't expected to have any fantasy value in 2011-12.

Coach Guy Boucher said that a decision will be between playing seven defensemen, with Jones in the lineup, or giving forward Dana Tyrell the nod if Sean Bergenheim cannot dress because of an undisclosed injury. Jones has missed the past three games because of some lingering pain in his ankle.

Randy Jones returned to the Tampa Bay lineup on Sunday night for the first time since March 7.

He had been sidelined with a high ankle sprain, but he had been ready to play again for a little while. Jones played in the place of Pavel Kubina, who sustained an upper-body injury in Game 1 versus the Capitals of their semifinal playoff series. He logged 6:25 of ice time in a 3-2 overtime win for the Lightning, but picked up an assist on Vincent Lecavalier's game-winning tally.
