Sheldon Brookbank is looking forward to helping the Chicago Blackhawks kill penalties.
Brookbank inked a two-year deal with Chicago on Sunday. "That was one of the things they said they needed, a penalty-killing defenseman," said Brookbank. "I've played penalty kill and (it's something) I take pride in." Chicago ranked 27th in 2011-12 when it came to killing penalties, so they could certainly use the boost. Mon, Jul 2, 2012 09:47:00 AM

The Chicago Blackhawks have inked Sheldon Brookbank to a two-year deal.

The financial terms of the deal were not immediately available. Brookbank had 120 hits and 110 blocked shots in 80 games with the Anaheim Ducks last season. He also recorded a career-high 14 points, but he shouldn't be counted on to do any better than that in 2012-13.

Sheldon Brookbank and the Anaheim Ducks don't appear to be close to agreeing to terms.

Brookbank had 14 points and 72 penalty minutes in 80 games last season. He's coming off a two-year/$1.5 million contract, but he'll probably ask for a meaningful raise.

Although he will likely not make a huge impact in any hockey pools, Sheldon Brookbank is on the cusp of having some fantasy value in the deepest of leagues.

He is a decent source of penalty minutes and has a career high 11 points, only two less than Toni Lydman. If you are looking for a depth defenceman to move in and out of your lineup, consider Brookbank.

Sheldon Brookbank scores just his second goal of the season on Sunday.

It was Brookbank's third goal in 257 career NHL games. With his goal on Sunday, he also set a new career-high with 10 points in 60 contests. It's safe to say that he has no fantasy value in standard leagues.

Defenseman Sheldon Brookbank of the San Jose Sharks scored his first goal of the season at 17:47 of the third period in a 3-2 shootout loss to the Devils in New Jersey Friday night.

Corey Perry also scored for the Ducks, his 29th of the season. The Ducks trailed 2-0 in the first period before Perry and Brookbank scored their goals.

Sheldon Brookbank may not be a bad roster add if you are looking to bolster you penalty-minute totals.

He took on (perhaps foolishly) Chicago's 6'9" giant John Scott in a fight on Friday and earned the respect of his teammates. Brookbank's willingness to engage with a guy who is six inches taller, 60 pounds heavier and a whole lot meaner, should tell you all you need to know about his desire to stay in the lineup. If you need some PIMs from the blueline, you could do worse than Brookbank.

Sheldon Brookbank played the wing on Wednesday.

The defenseman has had a tough time getting into the Anaheim lineup on the blueline but has played up front in three of the last four games on the fourth unit. While he has not put up a point in 26 games this season, he did get into a fight earlier this week. He has no fantasy value.

Sheldon Brookbank returned to the Anaheim lineup on Thursday after being a healthy scratch since December 18.

The Ducks had won eight of their last 10 and with the team carrying eight healthy defensemen, Brookbank was the odd man out. With the Ducks losing to Toronto, it could be a while again before Brookbank sees the ice in an NHL game. His only fantasy value is in penalty minutes.

Ducks GM Bob Murray doesn't mind keeping eight defenseman on the Ducks' roster, even though they're all currently healthy.

"I kind of like it," Murray said. "I think we're healthy on defense. A couple of guys aren't going to play. I think that is very good in our situation right now. It's proven you need defensemen because you get (injuries). Look at our schedule. We're going to need players." With Andy Sutton's return from a thumb injury on Sunday, defensemen Sheldon Brookbank and Paul Mara were forced to spend the game in the press box. Although those two won't always draw the short straws, they're probably going to lose playing time as long as all of Anaheim's blueliners are healthy. Brookbank has no points and 38 penalty minutes in 18 games this season.

Sheldon Brookbank (hamstring) returned to action on Wednesday November 17.

Brookbank played 17 minutes and was minus-one after missing four games with the injury. He has a little fantasy value with 31 penalty minutes in 17 games this season but has yet to garner a point.

Sheldon Brookbank suffered a strained hamstring on Tuesday and did not play on Wednesday.

The defenseman was replaced in the Ducks lineup by Luca Sbisa. He is valuable in fantasy pools only if you use penalty minutes as a category. Consider him day-to-day for now.

The Anaheim Ducks have re-signed Sheldon Brookbank to a two-year/$1.5 million contract.

Broookbank will get $700,000 in 2010-11 and $800,000 the following year with a cap hit of $750,000. Brookbank was eligible to become an unrestricted free agent on July 1 but decided against it. "I thought about it a little bit," Brookbank said. "It's always tempting that you might be able to go out and try to chase a little more money or whatever. But I was comfortable here. I didn't want to get too greedy. I wanted to be somewhere where I kind of fit in and I feel like I fit in here. My wife likes it here a lot too so we definitely had a lot of contributing factors to why you'd want to stay." The defenseman is not a scorer but did contribute in fantasy pools last season with a plus-10 rating and 114 penalty minutes.

Sheldon Brookbank and the Ducks are reportedly close to agreeing to a two-year contract extension.

He is scheduled to become an unrestricted free agent this summer if a deal cannot be reached. Stay tuned.

The Anaheim Ducks and Sheldon Brookbank met recently to talk contract.

Brookbank is scheduled to become an unrestricted free agent on July 1 and has turned down the Ducks first contract offer. Brookbank had a good fantasy season with a plus-10 rating and 114 penalty minutes to lead all Duck rearguards. He wants to stay with Anaheim but unless his financial concerns are met, he could head elsewhere.
