Chad LaRose skated on Carolina's top line alongside Eric Staal and Jiri Tlusty in Thursday's morning skate.

He received the promotion because Alexander Semin is sidelined with a concussion. LaRose has four points in 33 games this season and coach Kirk Muller likes to shuffle his combinations, so his time on the first line may not last throughout the match though.

Tuesday's match against Ottawa became a fight-filled affair after Jared Cowen's high hit on Carolina's Jeff Skinner.

Chad LaRose started the parade to the penalty box right after the hit when he went after Cowen and racked up 17 minutes in penalties. Nicolas Blanchard fought Zack Smith, Kevin Westgarth dropped the gloves with Cowen, Tim Gleason took on Chris Neil and Marc-Andre Bergeron went with Milan Michalek near the end of the contest. The Senators ended up winning the game by a score of 3-2, but it's not uncommon for teams to rally around losses like that when players stick up for another.

Chad LaRose joined Jordan Staal and Patrick Dwyer on Carolina's second line during Wednesday's practice.
