Lasse Kukkonen will probably play for the Philadelphia Flyers Friday.
Kimmo Timonen is battling the flu and will probably be unable to play. As soon as Timonen is feeling better, the Flyers are expected to send Kukkonen down to the minors as part of their efforts to free up enough cap space to activate Daniel Briere. Fri, Feb 27, 2009 02:33:00 PM

Lasse Kukkonen has successfully cleared waivers.

The Philadelphia Flyers now have to decide if they want to send him to the AHL. Philadelphia put him on waivers as a step towards clearing the cap room necessary to activate Danny Briere from the injury reserve list. Stay tuned.

The Philadelphia Flyers have placed Lasse Kukkonen on waivers.

Kukkonen has two assists in 19 games this season. The Flyers could be making room for Danny Briere, who has been sidelined with a groin injury. Briere is currently on the injury reserve list, but the Flyers can't activate him without going over the cap. Getting rid of Kukkonen and his $875,000 salary this season would bring Philadelphia closer to solving that problem.

Lasse Kukkonen has been placed on waivers by the Flyers.

Kukkonen has played in just seven games this season, including Thursday night's game as a fourth-line center. He will be assigned to the AHL if he goes unclaimed. The Flyers are rumored to be freeing up cap space to sign unrestricted free agent Brendan Shanahan. Stay tuned.

Lasse Kukkonen will play in Thursday's game against the Ottawa Senators.

Kukkonen is taking Ossi Vaananen's spot, who is out with a upper-body injury. Kukkonen has only played in three games with Philadelphia this season.

The Flyers have signed Lasse Kukkonen to a two-year, $1.75 million contract.

The 25-year-old defenseman, who was acquired from the Blackhawks in a February deal for Kyle Calder, will be the Flyers' fifth or sixth defenseman. He has the potential to register 20-25 points in 2007-08.

Lasse Kukkonen was traded to the Flyers, along with a third-round pick from the Blackhawks.

Blackhawks' defenseman Lasse Kukkonen was a healthy scratch two weeks ago, but it appears he has found his way back into head coach Dennis Savard's rotation.

"He has stayed positive," Savard said. "He's just solid. He does little things well. Sometimes coaches don't make the decisions all the time." On the season, Kukkonen has five goals and 13 points, so his re-entrance into the Blackhawks' lineup does not have much fantasy implications.

Lasse Kukkonen will be a healthy scratch again on Friday.

Coach Denis Savard plans to go with six defensemen and Kukkonen will be the odd man out of the lineup. It is time to reserve the Blackhawk defenseman until you are sure he is back in the good books of coach Savard.

Lasse Kukkonen has been in and out of the lineup of late as a healthy scratch.

Kukkonen has only played in three of the past seven games as head coach Denis Savard really wants Kukkonen to work on his quickness. "They want to try something different," Kukkonen said. "I just have to work hard and get myself in as good a shape as I can for the next time." Kukkonen has four goals and 12 points this season, as well as being a plus seven. He should be on someone's roster in deep pools.

Lasse Kukkonen scored his third goal of the season in the Blackhawks' 1-0 triumph over the Blue Jackets.

Kukkonen is emerging as a solid defenseman in the NHL. The second year player now has seven points and is plus four, on the 7-9-1 Chicago Blackhawks. Bryan Smolinski and Jim Vandermeer assisted on Kukkonen's second period marker.

Chicago scored three power play goals after coach Trent Yawney replaced Duncan Keith and Jim Vandermeer, the point players on the second power-play unit, with Brent Seabrook and Lasse Kukkonen.

The Hawks enjoyed their most productive night yet Monday, when they scored three times with the man advantage in a 5-3 road victory over the Colorado Avalanche. Kukkonen had a goal and an assist against the Avalanche, and Seabrook had an assist. Almost everyone on Chicago should improve on last year's totals, playing on a more skilled team that includes newcomers Martin Havlat and Bryan Smolinski.

Lasse Kukkonen has made the Blackhawks, and secured a one-way contract for this season.

Kukkonen played only 10 games with Chicago in his last stint with the team, but the small defenseman hopes to thrive in the faster NHL. Playing every day, Kukkonen will have an opportunity to contribute, although do not expect anything great fantasy-wise from the Finn.

Lasse Kukkonen has a real opportunity to make the Chicago defense next season.

Kukkonen has looked very good at the Chicago prospects camp, with the Finn being penciled in at this time as one of the seven members of the Chicago defense. Kukkonen played ten games on the Chicago defense in 2003/04, getting one assist. He returned to Finland during the lockout and remained there last season, scoring 11 goals and 27 points in 56 games for Karpat of the Finnish Elite League. Do not look for the 24-year-old defenseman to put up much fantasy-wise this season.
