Dion Phaneuf found the back of the net in Tuesday's 3-2 shootout loss to the Los Angeles Kings.

Phaneuf tied the game one at the 6:09 mark of the first period. The Sens defenseman finished the game with a plus-1 rating, one shot, one hit and three blocked shots in 19:27 of ice time. Phaneuf now has two goals and three assists in nine games this season. Nate Thompson also scored for the Ottawa Senators on Tuesday.
Oct 25 - 12:27 AM

Dion Phaneuf scored his first goal of the season Saturday in a 2-1 shootout loss to Detroit.

Phaneuf forced overtime when he scored with only 1:51 left in the third period after Martin Frk gave the Red Wings a 1-0 lead just 43 seconds earlier. The Senators blueliner also posted six shots and six blocks in 24:34 of ice time.
Oct 7 - 11:41 PM

The Ottawa Senators closed out their preseason scheduled with three brutal losses.

Ottawa got outscored 22-6 in those games, including a 9-2 loss to Montreal on Saturday to end the Senators' exhibition schedule. "You get beat bad like this and no one is sitting in here smiling," Senators alternate captain Dion Phaneuf said. "We understand and we’re going to take it. We got beat 9-2. Exhibition or not, it doesn’t feel very good. But, the bottom line is it’s exhibition, we’ve got work to do. We know that and we’re going to get back to work on Monday." It is hard to read anything into a preseason schedule, especially when there are plenty of examples of preseason success on a team level not correlating to regular season results. The real test for Ottawa will come on Oct. 5 against Washington.
Oct 1 - 10:24 AM

Dion Phaneuf may play on the right side with Erik Karlsson sidelined during training camp.

Phaneuf mostly plays on the left, but he did see time on the right during his time with the Maple Leafs. "I've played both sides, and I'll play wherever they're going to ask me to play," he said. "You've got to be able to play both."
Sep 15 - 11:27 AM

Dion Phaneuf appears to be staying with the Senators.

TSN's Darren Dreger reports that Ottawa plans to keep the veteran defenseman. Interest in Phaneuf around the league has slowed since the NHL Draft and the Senators already lost Marc Methot.
Jun 28 - 6:16 PM

The Ottawa Senators are reportedly looking to move Dion Phaneuf, according to TSN's Darren Dreger.

The Senators asked Phaneuf to waive his no-move clause ahead of the expansion draft, but he refused to do so. Phaneuf's no-trade clause allows him to submit a list of 12 teams he's willing to go to, but the Sens are currently working with him to see if there's any way he'd consider a trade to more teams. Dreger says there is some interest in Phaneuf around the league.
Jun 24 - 12:58 PM

The Ottawa Senators didn't make any trades before today's 3:00 p.m. ET roster freeze.

That means that unless the Senators are able to strike a side deal with Vegas, they'll have to (likely) expose a player they probably don't want to lose. Erik Karlsson and Cody Ceci will be protected by choice, while Dion Phaneuf needs to be protected because he has a no-move clause in his contract. Had they traded Dion Phaneuf, they would have been able to protect Marc Methot. It'll be interesting to see if the Sens and Golden Knights are able to come to an agreement on that front.
Jun 17 - 4:21 PM

Dion Phaneuf's reported decision not to waive his no-movement clause ahead of the expansion draft could actually be what causes him to be traded.

Phaneuf's no-movement clause is limited to the extent that Ottawa still has the ability to trade him to a list of a dozen destinations. However, because Phaneuf reportedly wouldn't waive his no-movement clause, he would need to be protected in the expansion draft, which could lead to Ottawa losing Marc Methot or Cody Ceci unless they're able to trade away Phaneuf soon to clear up that expansion draft protected list spot. Alternatively, had Ottawa been allowed to expose Phaneuf to the expansion draft, Vegas likely wouldn't have taken him anyways. Ottawa might not be able to trade him either given that Phaneuf comes with a $7 million annual cap hit for another four seasons, but perhaps if Ottawa is willing to retain part of that cap hit then a deal can be arranged.

Jun 15 - 10:27 AM

Dion Phaneuf is not expected to waive his no-movement clause, according to TSN's Bob McKenzie.

The Senators asked Phaneuf to waive his NMC Monday, so that he could be exposed to the expansion draft. Now, he would have to be protected unless Ottawa can trade him before submitting their list. That would probably be a difficult task at this time, so Marc Methot or Cody Ceci may be available for the Golden Knights.
Jun 13 - 12:16 PM

Ottawa has asked Dion Phaneuf to waive his no-movement clause, according to TSN's Pierre LeBrun.

The Senators want to expose him in the upcoming expansion draft, so that they can protect Erik Karlsson, Marc Methot and Cody Ceci. Phaneuf's decision apparently hasn't been made yet.
Jun 12 - 1:41 PM

Dion Phaneuf was playing with a wrist injury in the postseason.

He will not need to have surgery, so he will rest and recover during the summer. Phaneuf chipped in five points and 17 penalty minutes in 19 matches during Ottawa's playoff run.
May 29 - 1:44 PM

Dion Phaneuf was outstanding during the penalty kill Saturday.

Phaneuf was on the ice for 5:30 while shorthanded as the Penguins were 0-5 with the man-advantage. Phaneuf did not score but was a big reason why the Penguins scored only once all night. He has a goal and five points in 13 games thus far in the playoffs.
May 14 - 8:35 AM

Dion Phaneuf scored the game-winning goal in overtime and picked up a couple of assists in Ottawa's 4-3 come from behind win over the Boston Bruins in Game 2.

Phaneuf scored his overtime winner from the point after the Senators battled back from being down 3-1 going into the third period. He threw his body around and was instrumental in Ottawa's third period comeback, picking up all of his points in the third and overtime periods. The Senators head to Boston with the series tied at one game apiece.
Apr 15 - 6:24 PM

Dion Phaneuf will be rested against the Islanders in Sunday's finale.

His regular season closes with nine goals and 20 points along with 100 PIMs, 132 hits and 156 blocks in 81 games.
