Dion Phaneuf finished with a game-high 23:57 of ice time in the Maple Leafs’ 2-0 loss to the Bruins on Saturday night.
He also had a shot and three hits. There wasn’t much happening for the Leafs offensively in this one, though Paneuf finished with a plus-four on the shot-differential side of things, which was tops on the Leafs. Roman Polak had seven blocked shots. Nov 21 - 10:45 PM

Dion Phaneuf scored a goal and an assist in Sunday's 4-3 loss to the New York Rangers.

Four minutes after Jonathan Bernier gave up a bad goal to Derek Stepan, Phaneuf helped set up Joffrey Lupul's game-tying goal in the second frame. Phaneuf's goal at the 5:05 mark of the third period tied the game 3-3, but New York got a last minute goal from Mats Zuccarello to hand Toronto the loss. Phaneuf has two goals and 11 points this season.

Dion Phaneuf didn't practice Monday because of the flu.

However, he will travel with the team to Dallas for Tuesday's game, so he's probably close to being 100 percent. Look for Phaneuf to play against the Stars and we will let you know if his status changes.
Nov 9 - 1:17 PM

Dion Phaneuf scored in Friday's 2-1 OT loss to the Detroit Red Wings.

Phaneuf picked a great time to score his first goal of the season, as he scored with just over one minute remaining and his team trailing by a goal. Tyler Bozak and P.A. Parenteau picked up the assists on the Leafs' only goal. Phaneuf has nine points in 13 games this season. He finished the game with six shots on goal, two hits and four blocked shots in 23:08 of ice time.
Nov 6 - 10:17 PM

Dion Phaneuf took a bad crossing-checking penalty in Saturday's loss to the Canadiens.

With the Leafs down 4-2 in the second period, Phaneuf took a retaliatory penalty on Dale Weise. The Canadiens went on the power play and put the game out of reach by making it 5-2. "It was a bad penalty," Phaneuf said. "I can’t really say much more than that. Sometimes those happen. I didn’t like the hit, but I have to put that aside. I thought he sold (the cross check) pretty good, to be honest with you. That’s part of it. I can’t take the penalty."

Dion Phaneuf may have played his finest game in a very long while Saturday night against Ottawa.

The oft-criticized Maple Leaf captain registered two assists in a season high 24:22 of ice time. Phaneuf also had a very impressive 65% possession mark. Perhaps new coach Mike Babcock and Phaneuf can co-exist. It may turn out that the Leafs re-build may not require a trade of Phaneuf, at least not in the near term.
Oct 11 - 12:58 PM

Dion Phaneuf said that he's never asked the Maple Leafs to trade him.

"No, I never have and I won’t," said Phaneuf. "Because I like the direction that our team is going, I’m all in. I said it this summer when I was asked about it, but I’m all in. I’m here to give everything that I have for this organization and for this team." The 30-year-old has been the whipping boy in Toronto during the last few seasons, mainly because of his $7 million salary. Phaneuf is still a very capable NHL defenseman but he may not be suited to be the go-to guy on a team's blue line.
Sep 15 - 8:35 PM

Maple Leafs coach Mike Babcock is confident Dion Phaneuf will excel this season.

"He’s going to have the best year he’s had in a long time," Babcock said. "He’s prepared hard all summer. We’re going to help him with his game and he’s going to help us by being the player he’s capable of being. And we’re going to look after him. We’re not leaving him hung out to dry, either on the ice, with the media or in town." Phaneuf will get breaks from talking to the media. He had 29 points and 108 penalty minutes last season.

The Los Angeles Kings and Toronto Maple Leafs are believed to be discussing a trade involving Dion Phaneuf.

It's entirely possible that center Mike Richards may be part of the package heading to Toronto. Richards comes with a horrible contract and if he does head to Toronto, it's very probable that the Leafs would just buy him out. The Kings already made a splash on Friday, when they acquired Milan Lucic from the Boston Bruins. It's clear that the Kings weren't pleased about missing the postseason and they want to make sure that doesn't happen again in 2015-16.

The Detroit Red Wings are reportedly no longer interested in Dion Phaneuf.

Detroit and Toronto reportedly came close to a Phaneuf trade at the deadline, but the Red Wings weren't willing to part with prospect Anthony Mantha at the time. Phaneuf is a good defenseman that plays a physical game and contributes offensively. However, he's also very pricey from a cap perspective as he comes with a $7 million annual hit through 2020-21.
Jun 19 - 4:02 PM

Don't be surprised if Dion Phaneuf is dealt in the near future.

The Toronto Maple Leafs are reportedly looking to quickly move Phaneuf as well as Phil Kessel as the squad looks to start fresh. That kind of speculation has been going on for months, but now that the Stanley Cup Final is over, it might not be long before Toronto starts pulling the trigger on some major deals. Phaneuf will attract plenty of attention, but his $7 million annual cap hit through 2020-21 probably won't help matters.
Jun 16 - 9:56 AM

According to Sportsnet's Damien Cox, Dion Phaneuf could have been a member of the Red Wings but Detroit wasn't willing to make prospect Anthony Mantha available at the trade deadline.

Reports have surfaced that Mantha is available now. Cox added that the proposed deal would have seen Mantha, Stephen Weiss and Brendan Smith head to Toronto while Phaneuf would have gone to Detroit. With the Wings now willing to move Mantha, it will be interesting to see if the two teams can get a deal done this offseason.
Jun 14 - 10:25 AM

Dion Phaneuf collected his 400th point in Saturday's 4-3 shootout loss to Montreal.

Phaneuf picked up the primary assist on Casey Bailey's first period goal. It's been a difficult season for Phaneuf. He's had to deal with being the captain of a team that grossly underachieved and his point totals weren't very high. The 30-year-old had three goals, 29 points and a minus-11 rating in 70 games this season. There's no guarantee he will be back with Maple Leafs in 2015-16.

Apr 12 - 12:13 PM

Dion Phaneuf fought Kyle Brodziak just 3:18 after Jake Gardiner had cut the Maple Leafs' deficit to 2-1.

Perhaps it was simply the Captain's general frustration boiling over, or perhaps it was merely an oddly timed way of sparking his teammates. But it didn't work, as the Leafs would fall to the Wild 2-1. Phaneuf also contributed a shot and three hits in 23:18 of ice time. He continues to lead the team in PIMs with 104, along with 25 assist and 28 points in 62 games this season.
Mar 24 - 12:33 AM

The Toronto Maple Leafs were 0-for-7 on the power play in Saturday's 4-1 loss to Vancouver.

"We have not been able to produce, and that is our job, the guys who are on the power play, we take full responsibility," Phaneuf said. "We have not been good enough. We generated, we had opportunities, but it is on us. We have to do a better job. We expect more."
