He was surpassed for the team lead in goals by Anze Kopitar Saturday as Carter ended the season with 27 goals, two behind Kopitar who had a pair against the Ducks. Carter is a streaky scorer and could get hot in the playoffs.

Jeff Carter scored a goal and registered an assist in Los Angeles 4-0 win over Phoenix Wednesday night.

Carter now has 27 goals and 22 assists in 67 games this season. Anze Kopitar and Tanner Pearson both had a strong night also with a goal and an assist. Defenseman Drew Doughty also scored for the Kings, while Alec Martinez added two helpers in the victory.

That's going to change when the Kings face off against the Flyers in Philly Monday night. Carter is downplaying his return to the City of Brotherly Love where he enjoyed tremendous success but was also the lightning rod of controversy. "It is what it is. It's been three years since I left there. It's not a big deal really," Carter said. "It should be a lot of fun though." We doubt the vocal Philly fans will be kind to Carter, though. It will be interesting to see if he brings his A-game to the Wells Fargo Center.

Kings coach Darryl Sutter balked at the idea that Carter was put on their line to help out the 21-year-old forwards. Sutter argued that Toffoli and Pearson were already playing well. In fact, Sutter might be hoping that the kids spark Carter, who has no goals and an assist in his last five games.

Carter's goals were his 23rd and 24th of the season. The second goal came on a power play. Carter's assist was his 19th of the season. The all-star forward also received a 10-minute misconduct during the third period. Other scorers for the Kings Sunday were Alec Martinez (seventh) and Trevor Lewis (third).

"It almost feels like there's more room over there, in the NHL. The ice is smaller but I feel like guys are a little more spread out," he said. "They force more on the boards. Where here, you get the puck on the wall, teams kind of back off and give you that space on the wall and just clog up the middle. It's a little bit different." It's been an adjustment for players accustomed to the North American-sized arenas and there has been some suffocating defense displayed in the middle of the ice throughout the tournament.
