Former Edmonton Olier Robert Nilsson was a member of the winning Salavat Yulayev squad in the KHL championships.
The team won the Gagarin Cup, the Russian equivalent of the Stanley Cup and although Nilsson had a poor regular season with only five goals, he was thrilled at winning the Cup. "It's a different type of play," Nilsson said. "It's a big rink and people try to dangle a little more. I would say, it could be more fun hockey to watch for the fans. I played with good guys, had a great team, won the Cup this year. It helped me a little bit, too, with my play." Nilsson will return to Russia as he signed a two year deal last July and while he won't rule out a return to the NHL eventually, he will have to play a lot better to garner some interest.
