The New Jersey Devils have lost three straight games in overtime.

"It’s better than no points, but in all those games we were ahead in the third period," Steve Bernier said. "So one thing we need to do is learn to how play with a lead and, obviously, try to play when there is less than a minute to play in a game." Just to clarify, in Monday's 3-2 shootout loss to Ottawa, the Devils never held the lead. However, they did concede last minute goals to Tampa Bay and Florida on Friday and Saturday respectively, which led to them losing both of those contests. The Devils currently hold the seventh seed and have a four-point edge over the ninth place New York Islanders.

Steve Bernier potted two goals in New Jersey's 3-2 overtime loss to Florida on Saturday night.

The goal was his first since March 2, and he isn't much of a fantasy factor, with eight goals and 12 points on the season. Henrik Tallinder, Stephen Gionta, Ryan Carter and Andrei Loktionov had the assists.
Mar 30 - 10:48 PM

Steve Bernier scored two goals as the New Jersey Devils took advantage of a late surge to beat the New York Islanders 3-0 on Sunday.

Bernier had the game-winner and an insurance tally in the third period. Those represent his second and third of the season, with goals representing all of his offense so far in 2013. He's a marginal consideration at this point, but his first-round talent indicates it might not be too late for him to develop into a regular contributor some day.
Feb 3 - 5:50 PM

Steve Bernier would be open to playing in Europe if he gets the opportunity.

"For sure, that would be a decision I would have to talk over with my wife and see if it's worth it," he said. "But, at the same time, I'm a hockey player. I want to play. I want to be in good shape. I've got a two-year contract now (with the Devils) and I don't want to miss my chance to show that last year was not a one-year thing." Bernier will participate in the La Tournée des Joueurs or The Players' Tour, along with several other NHL players this week to play something more meaningful than unofficial skates and to help raise money for charity.

Steve Bernier has agreed to a two-year contract extension with the New Jersey Devils.

Bernier will reportedly have a cap hit of $750,000 annually. He scored a goal and six points in 32 games last season.

Steve Bernier's agent, Philippe Lecavalier, is confident that a deal will get done with the New Jersey Devils.

"We should be getting things done," Lecavalier said. "It looks really good right now. He was real excited about going back and we're right there, so, hopefully, there's going to be an announcement in the next day or two." Bernier is scheduled to be an unrestricted free agent on July 1 if the negotiations don't work out.

Steve Bernier felt overwhelmed by the support he received from his teammates after his five-minute major for boarding resulted in three Los Angeles' power-play goals in Game 6 on Monday night.

"Everybody in this room has been very nice," said Bernier. "They're hockey players. They know it could happen to anybody. I didn't try to do a non-hockey hit. I played the same way for the season, hitting every chance I got, and this time it was a little bad luck." To his credit, he was ready to field questions after the Devils' 6-1 loss resulted in the Kings winning the Stanley Cup. Bernier is eligible to be an unrestricted free agent this summer, but he is hoping to return to New Jersey.

Steve Bernier received a five-minute penalty and game misconduct for boarding Rob Scuderi at 10:10 of the first period of Game 6 of the Stanley Cup Final, and that led to three Kings goals.

Just not a smart play by Bernier, who never attempted to play the puck as Scuderi was retrieving it behind the net and hit him recklessly from behind into the boards, cutting him in the process. Scuderi left for the remainder of the period and returned in the second. The Devils had killed off an earlier penalty, but the result of this five-minute one was three goals for the Kings, two by Dustin Brown and one by Trevor Lewis. Not a good way to start a do-or-die game on the road.

Steve Bernier potted his second goal of the playoffs on Tuesday night after scoring just once in 32 contests during the regular season.

"I just think this guy's a playoff-type guy," coach Pete DeBoer said. "He's a big body. He likes to forecheck. He wins battles, [he's] an underrated player and he's been a valuable piece." Bernier has chipped in three points in six games for the Devils during their opening round series against his former team, the Florida Panthers.

Steve Bernier netted his first goal of the playoffs in the Devils' 4-0 victory over the Florida Panthers on Thursday.

Bernier had a goal and six points in 32 regular season games. Although he used to be a promising prospect, he never really panned out. At this point, he should be regarded as a bottom-six forward.

The New Jersey Devils decided to go with Cam Janssen instead of Steve Bernier in their game against the Philadelphia Flyers on Sunday.

It's tough to believe that Bernier once seemed like a big, promising power forward at one point in his career. Now he seems more like a big disappointment - and a borderline NHL player at best. That being said, there's a chance he might be injured, so it's possibly not ALL about his struggles.

Bernier, who signed a two-way deal with New Jersey on Jan. 30, netted his first NHL goal since Feb. 10, 2011. He now has a goal and three points in seven games this season. Alexei Ponikarovsky and Dainius Zubrus each registered an assist on Bernier's goal.

Steve Bernier has signed a minor league contract with New Jersey's AHL affiliate in Albany.

He attended training camp on a tryout basis with the Devils and there were reports that he rejected a two-way contract from the team, but GM Lou Lou Lamoriello denied those claims. "He was not offered a contract. He didn't refuse anything," Lamoriello said.
