The play of Ryan Getzlaf thus far has him in consideration for the Hart Trophy.
The Hart is awarded to the most valuable player in the NHL and it's hard not to put Getzlaf in the equation as he has 50 points in 46 games and has been a major reason why the Ducks are at the top of the standings with 68 points, despite a multitude of injuries to players like Corey Perry etc. "In here, we don’t want to lose back-to-back games," Perry said. "When we lost a game, that next game we had to be at our best. And most of the time, he was at his best and he really carried the team. That’s what leaders do. That’s why he’s the captain." Ryan Getzlaf was the only member of the Anaheim Ducks to be selected to the All-Star Game.

Getzlaf is having an outstanding season with 45 points in 41 games. While Getzlaf was happy with the honor, he was surprised that no other players from the first place Ducks were selected. "When you’re talking about the first-place team (you expect it)," Getzlaf said. "We’ve had a great collective effort and when you look at that with the man-games we’ve lost as a group, we’ve done a great job filling those voids."

Ryan Getzlaf is having a big season on the ice and on the scoreboard for the Anaheim Ducks.

Getzlaf has been outstanding and what is more encouraging is that he did a lot of it in December without star winger Corey Perry in the lineup. Getzlaf has 13 goals and 45 points in 41 games and has 12 points in his last 10 outings. "I can’t say enough about Getzy and his leadership," GM Bob Murray said. "How he’s growing into that role and managing a young hockey team. The message between a coaching staff and a young hockey team.

Ryan Getzlaf got an inopportune unsportsmanlike penalty on Wednesday.

Getzlaf threw his stick at the team's bench when the Ducks were already facing the prospect of being down a man. The result was that the Ducks ended up being asked to kill a full two minutes of 5-on-3 hockey. "The moment I thought the referees were off the ice, I was taking out my own frustration," Getzlaf said. "I'm an adult. It shouldn't be at that point. We shouldn't be sitting here talking about the referees after two great teams played hockey. But we are. I felt like the game just – it got out of hand. … I accept full responsibility for my stupidity and my role in that. That was my fault. That won’t happen again from my teammates and me."

Anaheim Captain Ryan Getzlaf says the practice held on Dec.26 was an "informal skate" and no rules were broken.

"Some guys were on for five minutes, some guys were on for 20. It was just kind of a very informal skate," Said Getzlaf. The Ducks are being investigated by the NHL and could be subject to fine for not following rules of the CBA.

Ryan Getzlaf assisted on both of the Ducks' goals in their 2-1 overtime victory over the visiting Vancouver Canucks Sunday night.

This gives Getzlaf 30 assists on the season. He's one of the premier players in the NHL, of course, and his contributions were conspicuous against Vancouver. He assisted on Francois Beauchemin's first goal of the season at 6:52 of the third period. That goal tied the game. Then Getzlaf got a helper on Cam Fowler's game-winning goal at 2:42 of overtime. Fowler's goal was his fifth of the season. Getzlaf has a team-high 42 points now. That's 15 more points than Ryan Kesler, who is second on the Anaheim roster in scoring.

Ryan Getzlaf increased his team lead in points (39) with two more assists Monday night, as the Ducks beat the Sharks 3-2 in overtime.

Getzlaf's first helper was brilliant as he found Cam Fowler sneaking now the weak side late in the third to tie it up. The second helper was a classic hockey secondary assist as he merely shot it wide, and the Ducks scored on the same chain of possession. The Captain leads the team in assists (27), points (39), and is third in goals (12).

He ranks fourth in the NHL in points with 37 and doesn't need superstar winger Corey Perry to get his points it seems. He is again one of the most valuable players in NHL fantasy hockey.
