Jan 27 - 8:27 AM

Ryan Getzlaf was back on the top line Friday after seeing some action on the fourth line Wednesday.

Getzlaf played eight minutes on the fourth unit against Ottawa as coach Bruce Boudreau was not happy with his play. Getzlaf picked up an assist on Friday and now has three goals and 27 points in 39 games. Not very good for a player of Getzlaf's caliber but he is definitely capable of more.
Jan 16 - 6:23 AM

Getzlaf is now on a three-game point streak. He has three goals and 26 points in 38 contests in 2015-16.
Jan 14 - 10:32 AM

Ryan Getzlaf's mishandling of the puck led to Detroit's game-winning goal in Anaheim's 2-1 loss on Sunday.

Getzlaf's disappointing offensive numbers have drawn a lot of attention this season, which makes it all the more painful when he falls short defensively too. "In other years, he could make this mistake and nothing happens," Ducks coach Bruce Boudreau said. "It just seems this year there’s that dark cloud. When he makes a mistake, no matter how well he’s played during the course of the game, it seems to cost us." Things aren't as bleak as they seem though with regards to Getzlaf. He has picked up the pace offensively after a rough start to the season and did get an assist on Sunday, even if his misstep was the focus.
Jan 11 - 5:00 AM

Ryan Getzlaf scored his third goal of the season, on the power play no less, during Thursday's 1-0 win over Edmonton.

After the puck took a couple of fortuitous bounces, Corey Perry found himself on the doorstep with the puck but decided to no-look a pass to Getzlaf instead. The Captain buried the only marker of the game for, what turned out to be, the win. He now has 23 points in 32 games thus far.
Jan 1 - 3:37 AM

Ryan Getzlaf has a goal and three assists during a three-game point streak.

He opened the scoring against Philadelphia on Sunday with a power-play marker to earn his first goal on an NHL goaltender this season. Getzlaf hadn't found the back of the net since Nov. 16 when he scored an empty-netter versus Carolina.

Anaheim Ducks GM Bob Murray put the team on full blast during a media scrum on Wednesday, which included himself.

Through the holiday break the Ducks sit two points behind the Oilers for last place in the West, and one point clear of the Blue Jackets for 30th in the League. "We take responsibility for that as a management group," Murray said. We've noted the team's struggles all season long, but perhaps none signify the depth of the problem like Captain Ryan Getzlaf's goal total of one. And it's an empty-netter. One would be thought reasonable to think Murray's summertime moves may be to blame, but consider his noteworthy moves were ostensibly replacing Francois Beauchemin with Kevin Bieksa (a clear downgrade) on the blue line; Kyle Palmieri and Matt Beleskey for Carl Hagelin and Mike Santorelli (depth and versatile, but not core contributors) up front, and chemistry isn't the question. Even second-year Duck Ryan Kesler noted it as such, "All the guys are comfortable. We got a good team. We just got to go out there and prove it." Perhaps it's merely mental, then.

Ryan Getzlaf recorded an assist in a 3-2 overtime loss to the New York Rangers Tuesday night.

Getzlaf has a goal and 19 assists in 29 contests this season, which is somewhat disappointing by the high standards he's held to, but that mostly has to do with his slow start to the 2015-16 campaign. He has 19 points in his last 21 games.

Ryan Getzlaf and the Anaheim Ducks were foiled on all 44 shot attempts against Chad Johnson on Thursday night as the Sabres shut out the Ducks 3-0.

Getzlaf, who has just one goal and 18 points in 26 games, had a really slow start to the season but has picked his game up somewhat. It's still nowhere near the level he's displayed throughout his career so far, and whether or not he can regain that elite point production this season remains to be seen.

Ryan Getzlaf is aware of the criticism being stacked against him this season.

"I hear it," Getzlaf said Monday. "Not when I’m on the ice, but there’s always outside influences on different things. It doesn’t affect me. That’s part of hockey. I expect them – I want them to want me to do better. I don’t take anything personal from the fans’ standpoint. I think that when things are going well, everybody’s happy. And I’m with them. I’m happy. If (the passes are) not connecting, I’m not happy." Unfortunately the latter scenario is closer to the truth this season. He has just one goal and 18 points in 25 games this season. That being said, his numbers have been skewed downwards by his start where he recorded just one point in eight games. If you remove that then he really has been pretty good.

Ryan Getzlaf was not happy with the play of the Anaheim Ducks on Friday.

The Ducks were coming off a four-day break and playing the lowly Carolina Hurricanes at home but you would never know it by the 5-1 Carolina final. "You got to change your mindset," Getzlaf said. "That comes back to being a pro. We’re out of a playoff spot right now. Every game should be a big game. We didn’t do a good job of getting emotionally involved in the game." Getzlaf has only one goal in 25 games this season with 17 assists along with a zero plus/minus rating. He was a minus-three and got into a fight on Friday. Getzlaf should break out soon but his value in trade talk is at an all-time low.

Ryan Getzlaf had an assist in Sunday's 2-1 victory over Pittsburgh.

Getzlaf has recorded a point in three of his last four games. He now has a goal and 18 points in 24 games in 2015-16. That's not exactly up to his standards, but his numbers are dragged down by his cold start where he recorded just one point in eight games.
