Ryan Getzlaf is leading the Anaheim Ducks in shots on goal with 17.

Getzlaf has gone over 200 shots only three times in his 11 year career but he is on pace for 534 shots this season after only three games. "I take the looks that are there," Getzlaf said. "If somebody’s open, I tend to try and give them the puck. And if they’re not, it’s my job to try and get it to the net. I’ve been trying to do that." Getzlaf scored his first of the season on Sunday and now has four points in three games after going last October with only one helper in eight games.

Getzlaf lit the lamp for his first goal of the season and pitched in his third assist in three games to improve to four points in the first three games. His pace so far this year is lightyears ahead of last season's slumping start.

Getzlaf picked up his first two points of the season as he set up Cam Fowler and Corey Perry in a 3-2 loss to the Penguins. Getzlaf had 10 shots on goal in his first game of the season and now with this performance is certainly way ahead of last year's pace when he got off to the slowest start of his career with only one assist in eight October games. Getzlaf should get back to the 70 point mark this season barring any injuries.

Ryan Getzlaf had 10 shots on goal during Thursday's 4-2 loss to Dallas.

That's unusual for Getzlaf to say the least as he averaged 2.31 shots per game in 2015-16. It didn't prove to be effective though as he didn't find the back of the net and finished the game with a minus-one rating.

The plan is to have Ryan Getzlaf participate in two exhibition contests.

Getzlaf will likely skip the Ducks' preseason game on Tuesday and then participate in Wednesday and Sunday's contests. That will cover him until the regular season begins for Anaheim on Oct. 13. Getzlaf is probably further along than most of the Ducks in terms of getting ready for the regular season given that he was with Team Canada for the World Cup.

Getzlaf recorded a point in each of Canada's three pre-tournament contests. John Tavares netted his third goal in three exhibition games. Patrice Bergeron accounted for Canada's other marker on Wednesday. Canada will begin the World Cup against the Czech Republic on Saturday.

Ryan Getzlaf has had to adapt his off-season training to make sure he's ready for the World Cup of Hockey.

The 31-year-old will represent Canada at this fall's tournament. He and many others will be playing competitive hockey games before they're used to, so he had to adjust his summer training. "I tried to simulate what I would do for camp and I've been back working out," Getzlaf said. "I think that the amount of skating and stuff I've been doing is a lot more and it's a lot earlier. These next two weeks are going to be about trying to get up to that speed where we're playing at a high level." Getzlaf scored 13 goals and 50 assists in 77 games last season.

Richardson is a veteran of 1,417 career NHL games. His playing career ended in 2008-09 and since then he's spent three years as an assistant coach with Ottawa followed by the last four seasons as the AHL's Binghamton Senators' head coach.
