The Toronto Maple Leafs have signed defenseman Danny Richmond to a contract.

No terms were announced. The 25-year-old blueliner gives Toronto added depth on the blueline. He split the 2009-10 season between Peoria and Rockford of the AHL where he potted a goal and 21 assists to go along with 166 penalty minutes. He is a Brian Burke type player. Richmond could stick as a seventh defenseman for Toronto, especially if they manage to trade Tomas Kaberle.

The Chicago Blackhawks have recalled four defensemen including Danny Richmond, from Rockford of the AHL.

The Chicago Blackhawks have acquired Danny Richmond from the St. Louis Blues.

Richmond was selected 31st overall by the Carolina Hurricanes in the 2003 entry draft. He might have a little bit of fantasy value at the NHL level for his ability to spend time in the sin bin, but he will report to AHL Rockford for the time being.

The Penguins have shipped Danny Richmond to St. Louis in exchange for defender Andy Wozniewski.

Richmond has not appeared in a game this season and should not be on your fantasy radar at this time. He posted 17 points and 108 penalty minutes for Pittsburgh's AHL affiliate in Wilkes-Barre.

Danny Richmond was dealt to the Penguins on Thursday.

In exchange, the Blackhawks received the rights to Tim Brent. Richmond is an offensive defenseman that was stuck behind a glut of quality young defenders in Chicago. He had 2 goals and 14 points in 40 games in the minors last season. Brent was held pointless in one game with the Penguins, but did produce in the minors with 18 goals and 61 points in 74 games.

Richmond started ahead of rookie Magnus Johansson who coach Denis Savard deemed 'not in shape to play.' Richmond was minus one in 15:06 minutes of action. After being a healthy scratch for the Blackhawks first six games, Danny Richmond finally played on Friday.

The defenseman played forward in his seasonal debut. "I've been waiting patiently," said Richmond. "It's tough to get into the lineup when the team is doing well. All through training camp and every day after practice I've been working with the coaches and trying to learn the [wing] position. I'm just learning the little things that make you a successful winger, and right now I feel pretty comfortable playing wing. Wherever I can get on the ice I'll play." While Richmond does not have fantasy value at this time, he is an energy player and will help the Blackhawks, if not fantasy players.

Just an FYI in case you drafted him and were wondering why the seventh defenseman on the Chicago Blackhawks was not playing.
Fri, Oct 5, 2007 06:58:00 AM

Danny Richmond re-signed with the Chicago Blackhawks for one year at $602,000.

Richmond should be able to make the jump to the bigs this season as a sixth defender with Chicago. He has offensive potential as his 10 goals and 34 points in the AHL last season attest to. He also has a mean streak, which is shown by the 144 PIMs he collected in only 57 games in the minors. He registered only two assists in 22 games with Chicago last season, but did have 48 PIMs. He is bound to contribute in one way or another to your fantasy squad, but that still may be a few years from now.

The Chicago Blackhawks have recalled Danny Richmond from Norfolk of the AHL.

The Blackhawks were going to recall Dustin Byfuglien, but Byfuglien is still bothered by an illness he contracted when he was with Chicago in January and is not 100% yet. The Blackhawks are high on Richmond who is scoreless in seven games with Chicago this season but had 10 goals and 34 points and 142 PIM's in only 54 games with Norfolk. The 22-year-old defenseman is someone for fantasy players to watch in the future.
