Kevin Klein scored twice Saturday night as the Rangers beat the Avalanche 4-2.

In one game, Klein tripled his scoring output for the season with his second and third goals. He got on the board early in the first with a goal at 2:26 that was assisted by Brady Skjei and Oscar Lindberg. After the Rangers gave up two goals, Klein then recorded the tying score at 2:50 in the third with another assist by Lindberg and Jesper Fast. All three of Klein’s goals this season have come in the last six games.

Kevin Klein is still searching for his first goal of the 2016-17 campaign.

Klein does have 11 assists in 45 games, but his lack of goals is in steep contrast to his recent campaigns. He had nine goals in each of the 2014-15 and 2015-16 campaigns, but he only fired 76 and 69 shots on goal respectively, so he was relying on high shooting percentages. So far he's taken 39 SOG this season, so he's still firing the puck at a fairly similar rate, but he isn't enjoying the same kind of luck. He's also averaging 17:40 minutes a game, down from 20:23 minutes last season.

Kevin Klein is expected to draw back into the lineup on Saturday after being a healthy scratch Thursday.

Rangers coach Alain Vigneault is hoping he'll see more urgency in Klein's game after being scratched. Adam Clendening will probably be taken out of the lineup to make room for Klein, though that wasn't confirmed.

Kevin Klein is being scratched in favor of Adam Clendening on Thursday against the Sabres.

"There's no doubt in my estimation that [Klein] can play better than he's played," coach Alain Vigneault said. In terms of fantasy, Klein has been fine in November with six points in 15 games, 10 shots, 26 blocks and 38 hits. He's scored 19 goals and 64 points since joining the Rangers, so we'd get him back in your lineup when he returns.
