Colin McDonald is glad to finally have some stability in his professional career.

"Just being able to get to camp early and move in my place and not have to be in a hotel for camp it's my seventh year pro now and I haven't had a chance to do this before so it's just very, it's a different experience for me, but I'm just very happy I'm in this situation now," said McDonald. He played in 45 games with the Islanders last season and he contributed 17 points along with 120 hits and 32 penalty minutes.

If the New York Islanders needed reassurance about their abilities, they got them from the Pittsburgh Penguins after they were eliminated from the playoffs in overtime Saturday night.

"Going through the [handshake] line, hearing what some of their guys said . . . 'You guys are a good team,'" Islanders forward Colin McDonald said. "I don't think a lot of guys around here have heard that in a while."

The Islanders are hoping that the opening shift of the second period by their physical bottom-six line against the Rangers changes the course of their season.

Casey Cizikas, Matt Martin and Colin McDonald opened the second period against the Rangers' top line, cycling down low, laying a few hits and ultimately scoring (McDonald) to cut the deficit to 2-1. "It really turned the game around for us," Frans Nielsen said. "Those guys went out and showed how we needed to play against them. If we get the puck in deep and we're aggressive on their D, they'll turn it over. Hopefully that's the shift that will turn our whole season around."

Colin McDonald scored two goals and registered two assists in the Bridgeport Sound Tigers' 7-2 victory over the Syracuse Crunch.

McDonald has two goals and six assists in five December contests. He signed a two-way deal with the Islanders over the summer after recording 49 points and 41 penalty minutes in 68 games with the AHL Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins last season.
