Liles will be held out of Thursday's game as a result. Defenseman Danny Biega has been called up to help fill the void.
Mar 19 - 9:27 AM

John-Michael Liles is projected to serve as a healthy scratch on Tuesday.

Hurricanes coach Bill Peters wants to give some of his younger defensemen playing time. Liles has two goals and 15 points in 42 games this season.
Mar 10 - 3:00 PM

John-Michael Liles played in his 700th career game on Friday.

"It's definitely an honor," Liles said. "To have played one game in this league would have been a pretty amazing thing. If you had told me at 10 or 12 years old that I would play one game, much less 700..."A lot of credit goes to my family for their support. It's been a lot of fun. Being an undersized kid from Indiana, to be able to have played this long and continue to play is an honor. I'll enjoy it for a minute and then it's back to work." Liles was a plus-one while playing 19:12. He has a goal and 12 points in 38 games and has no real fantasy value at this stage of his career.
Feb 28 - 6:51 AM

John-Michael Liles is likely to come out of the press box on Friday.

With Andrej Sekera traded to Los Angeles, Liles has an opportunity to play in a bigger role with the Hurricanes for the remainder of the 2014-15 campaign. Liles has a goal and 12 points in 37 games this season.
Feb 27 - 10:58 AM

John-Michael Liles will tag in for Brett Bellemore on Tuesday night against the New York Islanders.

Liles will pair with Ron Hainsey to make Carolina's third defensive unit. This trio of defenders would barely make an advisable fantasy blue liner with two goals, 22 points, 48 PIMs, 156 blocks, and 180 hits. Suffice it to say, individually they offer little fantasy value.
Feb 17 - 6:15 PM

John-Michael Liles recorded an assist in a 2-1 shootout win over Arizona.

Liles has a goal and 10 points in 31 games in 2014-15. At the age of 34, Liles days of being a top offensive defenseman are unfortunately well behind him.
Feb 6 - 9:26 AM

John-Michael Liles and Andrej Nestrasil will play against the NY Rangers on Saturday night.

After sitting out each of the previous four games, Liles will pair with Ron Hainsey to make the Canes' second defense pairing. While Nestrasil will skate to the right of Jeff Skinner and Riley Nash to form their third line. However, with just 13 points in 50 combined games this season, neither have much fantasy value.

Jan 31 - 6:21 PM

John-Michael Liles and Andrej Nestrasil will be healthy scratches against the St. Louis Blues on Friday night.

Coach Peters noted that he's not making any lineup changes as a compliment to his team's four-game winning streak. Tough break for these two, but they don't have much fantasy value anyway. Liles has eight points in 28 games, while Nestrasil has just five combined points in 22 games between Detroit and Carolina this season.

John-Michael Liles will be a healthy scratch Monday against the Maple Leafs.

Liles has been in out of the Hurricanes lineup since the new year and will find himself watching from the press box Monday night. He has a goal and seven assists in 28 games in the 2014-2015 season while posting a minus seven rating. The veteran is no longer a relevant player in the fantasy world.

Jan 8 - 3:56 PM

John-Michael Liles missed practice yet again with the flu.

Liles was placed on the injured reserve list earlier in the week with the illness and has missed about a week of action already. You have to wonder if the dreaded mumps are involved but thus far there has been no talk about it. Liles has a goal and seven points in 25 games.
Jan 4 - 6:25 AM

John-Michael Liles has been placed on the injured reserve list with an illness.

Liles' missed Monday's contest with what was described as flu-like symptoms. Although this is purely speculative, the fact that the Hurricanes moved him to the IR list so quickly leads us to wonder if he might have or be suspected of having the mumps. He has a goal and seven points in 25 games this season. Carolina summoned Ryan Murphy, so he'll probably take Liles' spot in the lineup for the time being.
