John-Michael Liles registered three points in the Hurricanes' 4-1 win over the Stars on Thursday night.
A turn-back-the-block performance for Liles, who scored and had two helpers. He struggled to find his way with the Maple Leafs and his game has certainly slipped in recent seasons, but he's an offensive-minded defensemen capable of putting together some solid games here and there. That being said, he has nine points in 36 games this season and isn't worth adding down the stretch. Justin Faulk had a goal and an assist, while Eric Staal and Riley Nash each lit the lamp as well. Chris Terry assisted twice. Apr 3 - 9:57 PM

Date:

John-Michael Liles was back in the Hurricane lineup Friday night against Chicago.

He had missed the last two weeks with a concussion but seems fine to activate after playing 19:30 (3:10 on the power play) and taking four shots on goal in the Hurricanes' 3-2 loss to the Blackhawks.
Mar 22 - 2:22 AM

John-Michael Liles (concussion) was on the ice with the Hurricanes on Monday.

Liles was wearing a no-contact jersey though, so his return probably isn't imminent. He has a goal and four points in 28 games this season.
Mar 18 - 10:05 AM

Defenseman John-Michael Liles has not played in the Carolina Hurricanes' past two games because of what the club has called an upper-body injury.

There's a tweet from Raleigh News and Observer hockey reporter Chip Alexander, however, saying that Canes coach Kirk Muller says Liles is concussed.

John-Michael Liles will not play Saturday night at New Jersey due to an upper-body injury.

Liles sustained the injury in Carolina's loss against the Rangers on Friday night. Mike Komisarek will play in his place.

John-Michael Liles (lower body) returned to action on Tuesday February 25.

Liles missed the Hurricanes' last game before the Olympic break due to the ailment. He logged 22:40 minutes in Carolina's 3-2 loss to Buffalo.
Feb 26 - 1:37 AM

Carolina defenseman John-Michael Liles is questionable for tonight's game against the Montreal Canadiens.

Liles left during the Canes' 5-1 win over Florida on Friday with a lower-body injury.
Feb 8 - 9:46 AM

John-Michael Liles recorded an assist in Carolina's 5-3 loss on Sunday.

Liles now has two points in eight games since being acquired by Carolina. Those aren't exactly inspiring numbers, but we wouldn't give up on Liles just yet. He's definitely a risk, but he has a lot of upside now that he's away from a Toronto team that wasn't using him.
Jan 20 - 9:04 AM

John-Michael Liles scored a goal in his first game against Toronto since the trade.

Toronto shipped Liles and prospect Dennis Robertson to Carolina on Jan. 1 in exchange for Tim Gleason. Liles was barely used by the Maple Leafs this season, but Carolina is giving him plenty of power-play ice time. He's not a bad guy to gamble on if you need a defenseman.
Jan 10 - 9:25 AM

The Carolina Hurricanes have matched John-Michael Liles alongside Ryan Murphy.

Liles was also paired with Murphy on the point during the power play as Eric Staal, Jeff Skinner and Alexander Semin were up front. The Hurricanes needed an offensive defenseman and the trade for Liles on Wednesday should help the team a lot as Liles has a lot of offensive capabilities. He is worth picking up in deep pools as Liles will get plenty of chances to show his offensive firepower.
Jan 4 - 5:39 AM

John-Michael Liles made his Carolina Hurricanes debut on Thursday.

Liles logged 15:45 minutes and had a plus-two rating in Carolina's 4-3 overtime win. What's more encouraging is that Liles collected 3:22 minutes of power-play ice time. If he's free in your standard league, he's worth taking a chance on.
Jan 3 - 9:27 AM

The Carolina Hurricanes have officially acquired John-Michael Liles and prospect Dennis Robertson from the Toronto Maple Leafs in exchange for Tim Gleason.

While the Maple Leafs got a solid defensive defenseman, from a fantasy perspective this deal is all about Liles. When he gets top-four minutes and power-play ice time, Liles is capable of recording about 40 points per game, but it had gotten to the point where Toronto was barely using him. He'll get a fresh start in Carolina and that could revive his career.
Jan 1 - 4:02 PM

The Toronto Maple Leafs will reportedly trade John-Michael Liles and a prospect to the Carolina Hurricanes for Tim Gleason.

The two teams are expected to announce the move in the near future. Liles has fallen out of favor in Toronto, but when he plays, he's a great offensive defenseman from a fantasy perspective. If you can afford to do so, pick up Liles in the hope that he'll get regular minutes in Carolina.
Jan 1 - 1:39 PM

A new-look third pairing of some speed and some skill saw John-Michael Liles paired with Morgan Rielly on the Toronto Maple Leafs' blueline Saturday night.

The adjustment appeared an early success as the Leafs defeated the Chicago Blackhawks 7-3. "I thought they did a good job from a standpoint of we played our system and we moved the puck pretty much worrisome-free other than about five or six minutes in the second period," said Leafs coach Randy Carlyle. For the first time all season, neither Paul Ranger nor Mark Fraser played. Both defensemen were healthy scratches.

There is a good chance that John-Michael Liles will draw into the Maple Leaf lineup against the Blackhawks.

It looks as if he, along with Morgan Rielly, will play instead of Mark Fraser and Paul Ranger. Adjust your roster accordingly.
