The Fan 590 in Toronto is reporting that Petr Nedved has been released by the New York Rangers.

Nedved accepted a tryout with the team, but he had no interest in playing on the fourth line. Unfortunately, the Rangers already had a good core group of centers, making it unlikely that Nedved would start the season with the Rangers.

Petr Nedved scored a goal and registered an assist in a 3-2 loss Wednesday.

Petr Nedved has accepted a tryout with the New York Rangers.

The 36 year-old winger believes he still has NHL calibre hockey left in him and will give it a go to make the Rangers roster. But with Nedved not interested in a limited fourth line role and the Rangers already having good depth at center, it doesn’t seem likely he will stick at the end of training camp. The 15-year vet has struggled recently only gathering 12 points in 40 games split between Edmonton and Philadelphia last season.

Petr Nedved has signed with Czech club champion HC Sparta Prague for the coming season.

Nedved has struggled in the past few years in the NHL, so this is a good more for him, personally. He will head back to his native land and be a star. Drop him from your pre-draft lists, unless you're in a Czech fantasy league, then he shoots to the top of that draft board!

Petr Nedved returned to action on Thursday March 1.

Petr Nedved has one goal and one assist in two games with the Oilers.

Nedved is playing on a very talented line with Petr Sykora and Ales Hemsky. At this point, Nedved looks like he could be a solid waiver wire pickup, especially if he continues to play with those two wingers.

Expect to see Petr Nedved on the power play when Edmonton plays Dallas on Thursday.

The Oilers power play has not clicked this season as they are 26th best in the NHL this year. They are hoping that Nedved will improve that. It is unknown on what line Nedved will play, but expect him to see at least some time with fellow Czechs Ales Hemsky and Petr Sykora. Although it seems impossible to believe, Nedved may be worth a look in deep fantasy pools.

Petr Nedved was claimed by the Oilers on re-entry waivers on Tuesday.

It was initially reported that the Ottawa Senators had made a claim for the veteran center, but he was claimed by a team lower in the standings than Ottawa. Waiver claims work similar to the claims in fantasy hockey. Specifically, should two or more teams make a claim for a player, the team that is lowest in standings has claiming rights. Thus, Nedved is now an Oiler, and not a Senator. His fantasy value goes from zero to modest, as it remains unclear what role he will play with his new team.
