The Columbus Blue Jackets placed defenseman Jack Johnson (upper-body) on the injured reserve Sunday.

Johnson's offensive output is a touch disappointing overall, although he's been heating up lately, getting four of his eight 2013 points in the last six games. His -10 rating is upsetting but not particularly surprising.

Jack Johnson was a minus-three Sunday and is now minus-seven on the season.

Johnson was on the ice for all three Oiler goals as it was not a great game for the blueliner. He has not been a good plus/minus player in his career and his plus-five rating when he came over from the Kings last season looks to be an aberration. He has a goal and four points in 12 games this season.
Feb 11 - 8:08 AM

Johnson leads the league with an average of 28:30 minutes per game and was on the ice for over 34 minutes in each of his previous two contests. "I want to play," Johnson said. "Nobody wants to sit on the bench. But I just do what I’m told. I go out when they need. But as you get more players back they’re probably not going to need me to do that anymore."
Feb 8 - 9:50 AM

The injury to James Wisniewski creates a void on the Columbus blue line that's hard to fill.

It's no secret that Jack Johnson will be asked to take on as many minutes as he can handle, as evidenced by the 34:59 he played against Detroit, but there comes a point when his production may suffer. Coach Todd Richards acknowledged this after Saturday's game, saying "..everyone is going to have to make up the minutes. Wiz played over 20 minutes a night in all different situations. I don’t think we can give Jack (Johnson) any more, so it’s going to come down to other guys." For the time being, consider Johnson as solid an option as ever despite his relatively slow start.

Jan 29 - 11:38 PM

Jack Johnson registered an assist in the Blue Jackets' 2-1 win over the Stars Monday night.

It was Johnson's first point of the year. Johnson is a solid all-around defenseman. He's capable of contributing offensively, with the man advantage, eat up minutes, throw his body around, and he's not afraid to block shots. He should be owned in all formats but do not expect a positive plus-minus rating.
Jan 28 - 9:58 PM

Jack Johnson has averaged a staggering 29 minutes of playing time over Columbus' first two games.

"I feel great," Johnson said. "I don’t think we’re worrying too much about it." That might change given that Columbus is about to start of stretch of seven games in 11 days. Either way, Johnson's playing time should drop considerably compared to it's current levels.
