Nov 11 - 12:54 PM

Nov 11 - 10:23 AM

Finally, after 195 career games Jack Skille now has 25 career goals.

Skille opened the scoring Thursday night with a long twisted wrister midway through the second. Jhonas Enroth should've stopped it, but hey, a goal's a goal. Skille finished with two more shots and four hits. A nice start for the still only 27-year-old forward.

Jack Skille is looking on the bright side after Columbus reacquired him with a waiver claim.

Skille had four goals in 16 games with the Blue Jackets in 2013-14, but he signed a two-way deal with the New York Islanders for the 2014-15 campaign. He wasn't able to make the cut in New York though and was consequently exposed on waivers. "I left things on such a high note with Columbus at the end of last season, and I was actually really bummed that we couldn't figure (out a new contract in June)," Skille said. "I thought I'd make a home there. Who knows, maybe the second time around will work out better." There's certainly that potential given that Columbus is missing forwards Nathan Horton, Boone Jenner, and of course restricted free agent Ryan Johansen. Those three were supposed to represent Columbus' top line, so there's plenty of openings.

Jack Skille, who signed a two-way deal with the Islanders on July 1, is confident about making the team.

Skille will get $750,000 if he makes the team and $300,000 if he is sent to the minors. "I have a lot more confidence, I'm a stronger player in a lot of areas," Skille said. "I'm expecting to have a strong camp, to make a strong showing. I signed here for a reason. I think they're going to give me a good, strong look. A lot of it as a player in this situation, it goes on the coach's trust. You've got to earn his trust right away, get him on your side. That's through smart play, good decisions on the ice and accepting your role. When you consistently do that in practice, in games, you earn the coach's trust. It's a huge piece for a player in my situation." The 27-year-old was selected seventh overall by Chicago in the 2005 Draft but has only 24 career goals in 194 NHL games. He had four goals in 16 games with Columbus last season and had an assist in six playoff games as the Blue Jackets used him throughout their only round of post-season action. He has little to no
